I use the Willing Jolly Bridge frequently when I'm heading from Red Hill to Southbank to see a film. The bridge has stoically remained one of Brisbane's landmarks and is in pretty good nick, too. It actually looks like a traditional bridge as opposed to the "modern design" bridges being built around Brisbane.
Traffic coming onto William Jolly Bridge from the north (aka the city) end can be a bit of a nightmare. There is a lane looping back around into the city just before the bridge entry, and you'll often find someone in the right-hand lane deciding, at the last minute, that they want to jump in the left lane to the city and they don't give a damn how many cars stand in their way.
This is not William Jolly's fault, however - traffic is traffic and it's essentially a case of poor nearby construction thanks to the Council.
I rarely find this bridge to be overflowing with traffic, and even when it is bumper-to-bumper the traffic moves more swiftly than you'd expect. You can enjoy a beautiful view of the city, too, looking at it from a prime position as William Jolly is on the CBD's edge. read more
