A driving simulation, lots of hands on and interactive displays to learn more about the power of steam and electricity, levers and hydrolics. A crafty area and a playground with ride on toys that may be best for toddlers. It is very educational if you feel like exploring the panels and videos or more fun if you want to experiment. The large miniature train set up was a big hit too. Next to the main museum there are hangars which were not open to the public when we were there. Not sure if they may open in summer. The only slight disappointment we encountered was that there was no train running, as in getting on an actual train for a little 5-10min loop or so. If you're hungry, there's a cafe that we didn't check out though and for souvenirs there's a gift shop at the entrance/exit, Staff was really friendly and I saw someone clean up the craft area a few times.

The UQ website provides up-to-date details on when lectures are on and often all that's required is an RSVP. I don't know that I'd make a special trip to the UQ St Lucia campus specifically to visit the Art Museum, however, UQ students (myself included) should make better use of it and peruse the art in between lectures.

The museum is entirely staffed by volunteers, who are all very friendly and full of knowledge. My partner and I were able to ride on 6 different model trams, with the volunteers explaining the history of each of the trams, and being more than happy to answer questions. The tram track itself isn't very long, though the experience is very enjoyable nonetheless. The oldest tram that they have is an impressive 115 years old, and the last of its kind in existence. Apart from riding the trams, they have a couple of displays that you can take a look at, such as an old 1951 trolley bus and a replica horse tram. You won't find any food here, so you are best to eat beforehand. There is adequate free parking, with the museum being just across the road from the Ferny Grove police station.
