I stumbled upon it accidently after taking a wrong turn on my way to Chouquette for a croissant. The vista was breathtaking and has caused me to return time and time again since. Take a picnic, a friend, or a date you want to impress. If you have a good camera, it's also a great place to take photos of Brissy or if you're game, get their early for the annual Riverfire festival.

Perfect place to take someone after a date, as it's just a short stroll from the city, the valley or New Farm. There are around 5 benches in the spots in Wilson's Outlook, and a couple of public bins too, so it's perfect for a picnic during the day and you don't have to take all your rubbish back with you in the car. If you're only going to come here once, make sure it's at night, it's so much nicer! Note, the only problem with Wilson's Outlook, and the reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5, is because of the chronic mosquitos that will devour your skin. Wear some insect repellent, or you will have a miserable time. Although, at the time of writing, there is a huge mosquito population outbreak right now bigger than any in the past 14 years (2015), so that may be skewing my review a tad.

Open The 1st Friday of the month 4pm to 8:30pm…read more The Markets at Hawthorne Park started a year ago. I went to one of the first ones which were held on Sunday mornings. I wasn't that impressed at the time -- very few stalls, it was too hot to be out at that time.... But now they have moved it to the first Friday of the month in the evening. They have brought in more vendors and entertainment. It is a vast improvement from its humble beginnings. I think the move to Fridays was smart, as the temperatures are more tolerated, and everyone wants to go do something that is family friendly and community friendly to start off the weekend. The night I went, I was pleased the Markets attracted the few of Brisbane's food trucks including Juan More Taco, That BBQ Joint!, Pasta Cruiser. There are also other food vendors available (The Goat Pie guy made an appearance here - we plan on having him bring a couple GF pies for us at the next Market). Good night entertainment for all, including kid activities such as girls getting their hair curled, bounce house, "mini makers" corner. There's even Yoga for anyone! I look forward to taking my folks here very soon, to show how awesome our community is!

There are resident ducks that often hang out here at the old docking space next to the cottage-like terminal, so it's great for the occasional outing with kids. (I have a really soft heart for animals). If you're heading to Oxford St, this is the stop. Just walk off and go several streets down, and once you have reached the Memorial Park area, you're just starting to get into the main Oxford St predicint. There are a few spots to check out along the way: The Jetty Restaurant just off the terminal, Stalks and Stems for flowers/gift items, Bellissimo Coffee to name a few. There are also a few historical buildings in Bulimba - just look for the history information markers. Also the Riverwalk is just a stone throw away (starting just at the yellow posts in front of the Jetty. It's not a very long Riverwalk -- it takes you direct to a park where you can find a few covered picnic tables, playground, and a fenced dog park. You could continue the Riverwalk beyond for several meters (and walk the small pier). There are rumours that this terminal may be temporarily shut down for renovations in the near future, to add a bigger terminal ramp (?).

It's definitely similar to the London Bridge. At night time, it's visible from so many different areas and so picturesque. During the day, it's filled with noises of cars and little foot traffic. But the walking paths going both directions and on top and beneath the bridge, make it accessible to walk over it. Definitely a must when visiting Brisbane!

Opened in 1940 the Story Bridge is the longest cantilever bridge in Australia. It connects…read moreFortitude Valley to Kangaroo Point (I've been fortunate to live in both for some time). Ironically, for many residents of Kangaroo Point the small ferries and CityCat boats are nowadays a more convenient ways to get to downtown than this bridge, which is part of a highway shuttling people from southern neighborhoods to the north. Best part of the Bridge, for me, is that it lights up every night, often in a specific color commemorating an event. For example, on 14/11/17 it was lit in rainbow colours in recognition of the Yes vote .

Apparently the guy who the the bridge in Sydney also bullt this one (though I suspect that the word…read moredesign it a much better descriptor than build considering that I suspect a lot more people when into the building of the bridge than just a single guy). Anyway, this bridge is, well, Brisbane's bridge and I suspect that it was designed to allow ships of all sorts to pass underneath it, though I suspect that not all that many ships actually come this far up the river any more. However, once again, just like the one in Sydney, this is pretty much just another bridge.
