Dr. Payne performed bunion surgery on my foot 3 months ago. I received excellent care from the pre-op appointment to when he released me today from a walking boot to walk in my shoe and drive. His offices are first-class (I saw him in Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley) and the staff was courteous and professional. I will return to him to have the surgery on my other foot in a few months. I received a referral through my doctor, was easy to set appt since they had both day, late, and even a few Saturday's at Simi Valley location available. I scheduled a Saturday, was greeted by a cheerful receptionist. Saw Dr. Takeyama who explained the procedure thoroughly, my different options. He was extremely patient with my numerous questions. During procedure he kept asking how I was doing and ensuring the numbing was effective. He was incredible! Honestly I had nothing to fear, it was a quick breeze. He explained my aftercare and made sure I understood importance of care. I highly recommend this office and especially this doctor for anyone who might be anxious about foot procedure. Great drs and staff. Appointment times are available and they have at least two locations that we have been to. Professional and knowledgeable. They help keep this runner running and have also helped with other family members (kids ingrown toenails) with ease and a far less pain than previous experiences. I highly recommend them. Besides the nice office lady "Jessica" WE will not go back there! Doctor is only interested in making his money instead of helping people. Simple ankle injury, send us to take X-ray. X-ray done. We were advise that it would be ready and emailed to DR in an hour. 4 days later, we are advise to make another appointment to read the X-ray and see if the patient is ready for PT He can't just see the X-ray, confirm if it is fracture or broken, or if negative, send a refer to PT. Injury happened 2 weeks ago, no more swelling, only discomfort. read more

It truly saddens me to have to write this. I was a very satisfied patient of Dr. Kwan for almost 20 years: note the use of the past tense, because it looks like I'm not any more. Earlier today, I called up for an appointment, as I hadn't been to see him for some time. My circumstances have recently changed here: I have retired from work and am now on Medicare. My wife is also a Medicare recipient and has seen Dr. Kwan on those terms without issue on several occasions, but according to the barely-literate member of staff I spoke with, this evidently doesn't apply now. I was, essentially, treated like something she had just stood in because of my changed insurance status. 20 years down the drain. I wish Dr. Kwan nothing but the best: if this is the face of his practice, he's going to need it. read more

This is by far the best toe/ankle doctor I've ever been to! I think the best doctor period. He sincerely cared about my overall health in general and made recommendations of specialist I should see for various things such as my anemia and needing to see a hematologist. He said there's many reasons for it and it's important to find out my specific reason and explained why I need iron for the oxygen to my blood. He even knew some of the reasons I could be. Some stuff he mentioned I've googled and suspected but he simply just said and knew without me saying. That was just a bonus talk! In regards to my ankle, had me walk and analyzed my feet/ankle perfectly. He measured my knee and knew my exact concern. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and knew exactly why my situation was happening and what to do. He taught me a lot and I was very thankful for going to him specifically. Also thought he had the most pleasant friendly receptionist who showed me all her amazing art. Her and I had the best talk for a long time. I was referred to Dr. Kwan by a friend who had the exact experience I had. His office staff was very friendly and I have never had to wait very long to see him. My ankle and foot was giving me a lot of discomfort, sometimes hard to walk. My first meeting with him was a consultation and the second meeting he ordered a MRI and by the he had an answer and my problem was solved. He explained every detail of the MRI and answered the questions I had taking his time. I love his office staff because they make you feel at home with friendly and happy attitudes. Sometimes being a doctor and solving everyone's issues are always easy, but Dr. Kwan is one doctor whom I feel very strongly about making every effort in providing you with an answer to help you with your medical problem. I have ingrown toenail surgery at doctor Kwan office back then on 2007 and I was told my toenail will grow back in 9 month or a year after the surgery. Doctor Kwan has cut off two side of my ingrown toenail and left THE ridiculous looking toenail It has been over 8 years my toenail still hasn't grown back. If I was told my toenail won't grow back after the procedure I wouldn't agree to have my toenail removed, I was so naive back then. I'm so regretting with my decision to seek his professional help. Dr. Kwan is the first Podiatrist I have ever been to (I am a Senior). He provides a "small town" type personal service with "big city" knowledge and experience. Few doctors will go into details about their analysis of your condition, and I was truly impressed about how Dr. Kwan explains your condition and how he recommends dealing with it. He is very analytical in his process, truly an expert in his field, and he expresses authentic concern for his patients. He is recognized as an industry expert, and often is asked to lecture young doctors in his field. In my instance I had a wound on the bottom of my foot from stepping on a piece of glass while barefoot (Duhhh!). Dr. Kwan provided a "Textbook" solution to my healing process, and by following his instructions my foot healed as anticipated (maybe even faster) and without issues. His staff are very friendly, and they are quick to help. Each time I have gone to his office I have had an appointment, and the wait has never been too long. He spends enough time with each patient, and they schedule accordingly so there seems not to have a big back-up in the waiting room. I cannot say enough about Dr. Kwan, and I will surely look exclusively to him for any future related needs. I highly recommend Dr. Kwan. read more

My first visit was five stars--quick to make an appointment, attentive. Since then, my experiences have steadily gotten worse and worse. Dr. Kwan has tried to cancel my appointments due to his own scheduling errors very last minute (like, 7PM the night before a 9 am appointment last minute). This is so disrespectful to his patients' time and money. I was there 10 minutes early for every appointment and he has been, on average, 30-45 minutes behind every time. The doctor just left me a voicemail canceling an appointment tomorrow morning--an appointment that was set TWO weeks ago. I also tried to contact the "emergency on-call doctor" for when the office is closed, and they were unavailable. I work in the fitness industry, so I meet and work with athletes every day and I would NOT recommend this office. read more

My experience with Dr Kwan was excellent, after I injured my foot. Their office was the first in Simi Valley to have an open time available within a few days (unlike two other offices that scheduled appointments two or three weeks later). Dr Kwan was very personable and showed concern and compassion. Dr Kwan runs the office, which allowed him the time necessary with me on every visit, unlike the large corporate medical offices (I've been there four times now related to this injury). I have been taking my son to Dr.kwan for almost two years now and we have been very happy with his services and staff. This is going to be an unusual review ... but Yelp, after all, is intended to provide personal, first-hand feedback from ones personal experience with a particular merchant or professional. Here's my story.... I attempted, for an entire day, to contact this office by telephone to schedule a visit. After receiving no answer and no voice mail nor answering service exchange, I finally asked somebody to go, on my behalf, on foot to see it they were closed and/or why I couldn't get through. I finally received a call from a member of Dr.Kwan's staff via their cell phone informing me that their phones had been down for quite some time. I didn't ask that they quantify how many days this had been going on - but I expressed a need to make an appointment ASAP. I was told that their entire office was "down" and they were sorry but I could not set up a visit nor could I simply drive over. I was polite, but disappointed. They took my number and promised to call me back when their telephones were repaired. I am at a loss to understand how, in this day and age, a medical doctor's offices should even have these issues. I know when my phone died, AT&T had it fixed within an hour or two - and I am not a doctor nor a big shot. And, while my phone was dead, my callers were going to voice mail and left me messages. (well two people called, anyway. .. I am not that popular) But this office has no contingency or back up plan for their patients and has evidently been "down" for days. I do not reccomend him, I will recommend him if you want to be completely disappointed and disgusted with how your feet look. I am just glad I only let him do one foot.
