We had visited the Depot in Duluth and seen the North Shore Scenic Railroad departure point, so we were looking forward to visit the Two Harbors Depot Museum, where the NSSR train stops for its northernmost point. The depot is located in the 1907 headquarters of the Duluth and Iron Range Railway Company. It's been charmingly restored, with ticket booths and telephone operator stations still intact. There are several different areas of displays, covering everything from military service to local culture at the turn of the last century. The museum has a gift shop and bathrooms available. Be aware of the timing of your visit; if you arrive at the same time the NSSR train does, there will be many passengers lining up to use those bathrooms, as the train is historic and does not have lavatory facilities. We were able to see the train pull into the station and, after its rest stop, hear that most lovely sound--a train whistle signaling "All Aboard!" The Depot Museum is definitely worth a stop for all visitors to Two Harbors!

Well, it only gets you $2 admission ($5 regular) but it does not give you the discount off the combo deal (all 3 museums - the tugboat just closed this year). I was glad not to do the $10 combo deal since our Lighthouse B&B gave us voucher to use on the other museums. The 3M museum is a pretty decent museum considering they seriously lack funding. It is nice to see that our admission went to a good cause so that they hopefully update it. There are a total of 4 rooms and each describes the history and progress over the years. The dummy scared my wife as well as the staff member. If you bump into the dummy, then it wiggles and shakes like a real person. Well, I think if there was access to the Innovation Center, then I would highly recommend it to you. However, this charming quaint place is nice to revisit our employer over the holidays.

The scarers will touch you and your children. The attraction did NOT notify guests of the touching. Nowhere at the attraction, on its Facebook page, in its waiver, etc is there an explicit notification of touching. Once again, the scarers will touch you and your children. There is no system in place protecting your children or other guests. If anyone, including children, were touched inappropriately, the attraction lacks protective policies for such a situation. Also, there was a portion of the haunt where you must crawl to get through. Thankfully, one actor was able to accommodate a friend's handicap. However, once again, there was no notification of this requirement.

The two kiddos with us ages 7 and 10 were in and out of different engines and train cars. There was a small theater with a few educational movies about the history of the rails. There were other floors with other interesting displays about the local area. The staff was really friendly and engaging with us. We are certainly looking to go back in the summer when the train is active between Duluth and Two Harbors. We ranged from ages 7-76 and all had a great time. We love Duluth and had never been here before. I would certainly recommend it as a stop on your agenda!

When Highway 61 was built, it replaced a road that went quite a bit out of the way to avoid the…read moremountains and cliffs here at Silver Creek. And after then 1920's, there was a narrow two-lane road that went along the cliff's edge. It was rather dramatic as it included the danger of rocks and boulders falling from the cliff walls overhead. This happened more and more often until the folks at the Minnesota DOT decided that it would be easier to just build THROUGH the mountain instead of going around it. It took over three years of dynamite blasting to remove over half a million cubic feet of rock to construct the tunnel. The tunnel opened in 1994. The old road is still here and it's a walking/biking path that includes the Gitchi Gami trail that has some spectacular views of Lake Superior. There is a small parking lot on the north side of the tunnel on the east side of the road. There is no toll to use the tunnel. [Review 17889 overall - 109 in Minnesota - 1410 of 2022.]

It would have been $4 to tour this but for $10 we were able to tour all 4 of the sites in the city. The museum at this location is really cool. It's easy to walk through at your own pace. There are many things from the rich history of this part of the state. The staff was friendly. Great place to check out. The Tug Boat was neat as well although we missed the official (on the hour) tour so it would probably be even better if you caught that. The lighthouse was neat but not as impressive as the museum. We didn't end up doing the 3M museum in town.
