I was glad not to do the $10 combo deal since our Lighthouse B&B gave us voucher to use on the other museums. The 3M museum is a pretty decent museum considering they seriously lack funding. It is nice to see that our admission went to a good cause so that they hopefully update it. There are a total of 4 rooms and each describes the history and progress over the years. The dummy scared my wife as well as the staff member. If you bump into the dummy, then it wiggles and shakes like a real person. Well, I think if there was access to the Innovation Center, then I would highly recommend it to you. However, this charming quaint place is nice to revisit our employer over the holidays.

It's a pretty spacious site as well with a private bench that overlooks the lake. The walk in is about 5 minutes but there is a slight incline towards the sites so not a bad walk but with a cart full of stuff you might be feeling it. Beware of the flies!! The flies were so awful at our site, not sure if that's the case with the other sites but we decided to do a hike mid day because we couldn't relax at the site without a swarm of flies around us. we probably won't go back to this site because of that. The site has a bear box but critters can still get inside!! we have some of our food nibbled on both nights so they definitely know there way around. Pebble beach is beautiful, busy at times but great for relaxing, dipping your toes in or enjoying a picnic. Speaking of picnics, they have a designated "picnic area" that has a pavilion, an inside multipurpose room, flush toilets and plenty of picnic tables along the shoreline. It's not my favorite campsite along the North Shore, but still beautiful and worth the visit.

This place is Amazing!…read more So much to do and learn here! Very well organized and maintained. Has everything for both visitors and locals to enjoy! There is a theater that shows interesting movies about the history of Lake Superior, interactive models, a mock up of a ship's interior, a real tugboat engine that will blow your mind, and, of course, amazing views of the harbor entry, great for watching the ships come in! Perfect place for people of all ages! You can get an education as well as entertainment that will keep you excited to experience all the city has to offer. Close proximity to so many other activities, you can make a day of it without even leaving the shore! This is a place everybody should experience!

The staff was friendly and kept everyone informed of the current schedule of the big ships coming and going. They made announcements outside too when one of the ships was preparing to leave. Watching one of these big ships pass under the lift bridge is quite the sight. Definitely worth seeing if you are lucky enough to be here at that time. Parking nearby is pricey since they minimum is three hours for $8.

If there were no paintings on the walls, you would not think this a gallery space. There is not a lot on display so spending longer than an hour here would be unlikely. One painting floored me. On the second floor near some bookshelves and a few desk chairs sits Gilbert Davis Munger's large-scale painting, 'Niagara Falls Showing the Canadian and American Views', from 1903. There is an almost endless stream of landscape paintings featuring Niagara Falls scattered in museums across the country and this is one of the best that I've seen. The grand size of the painting made me feel like I was standing at the base of the Falls. If I saw nothing else here, I would have still left happy. There are old master paintings from Mr. Tweed's collection on display in addition to various prints and lithographs. There are also some contemporary items, including Naomi Bebo's 'Beaded Mask', a 2010 work featuring beads and deer hide on an Iraqi gas mask. The most elegant item on display is a high heel shoe covered in birch bark by Cynthia Holmes. Titled 'Primal Donna', it's a modern day advancement on old wooden clogs.

The tickets are discounted if you are taking a train ride. There are so many trains to not only check out on the outside but a lot of them you can climb aboard and check out the inside. How cool! They have the oldest known snow plow train in the world. So cool. Train Rides: Especially during the changing of the leaves time of year (autumn) make sure to book your tickets early & online cause certain train rides do sell out! The train ride was 75 minutes and it was fun to check out different train cars and the lower and upper decks of the coach trains. The leaves are starting to change color and they looked great. There's a place to buy treats inside the museum and on the train cars. You're also allowed to bring your own snacks and drinks on board too! Other than a huge chocolate brownie that was left on the floor of our seating area on the train that I cleaned up. We had a good time and even moved cars at the halfway point to get another view. Parking - there is free parking along the backside of the train museum if you score a spot otherwise there is a huge parking garage right next door.

This is the perfect stop if you're are looking to spend some quiet time on the water and would like a smaller version of split rock. It is not as well kept or as popular but was just enough for us. What's awesome here is that three of the lighthouses buildings are open to be toured, including the tower itself (which was way too crowded for my comfort), the keeper's quarters that have been restored to 20th century decorations and the assistant keeper's quarters that have been restored to late 19th century.
