I recently stopped into Willey's while visiting Salisbury Beach and tried their "deep sea fishing" flavor in a cone. I absolutely loved this flavor - it had m&m's and chocolate chips swirled into vanilla ice cream, and it was sooo delicious. It was a little pricey (I want to say it ended up being $6-$7 for a small cone) but you get a good portion so I can't complain. I will say the store is quite small, so it can feel crowded quickly with only a few groups in line. I also didn't love the employee I experienced on my 2nd visit. My bf and I stopped in again this week while we were back at the beach and the cashier was so short it was bordering on rude, and it felt sort of uncomfortable. I'll definitely go back for the ice cream, but I hope the service is consistent on my next few visits! read more

On a hot summer day, Willey's was the perfect spot to cool off with some delicious ice cream! This little store was packed with customers, and with only 2 employees working, it took awhile to get served. We ordered a small cup which came with 2 flavor options (we chose blackberry and mocha chip), and were surprised with how large the portions were. The quality and depth of the ice cream flavors was also excellent. It was rich and tasted very fresh! It's definitely a high-quality shop, perfectly located outside the beach, which brings in a lot of customers but for a good reason. read more

Went the other day during our off-season (post-Labor-Day) trip to Salisbury Beach. Stopped by and decided to get an ice cream sundae. I got a Peanut Butter Sundae with vanilla ice cream. I've been thinking about this vanilla ever since. It's been almost a week, and I still am thinking about that ice cream. I'm usually not impressed with vanilla ice cream, but this... this was UNBELIEVABLE. SO FULL OF FLAVOR. Wow... I just... can't get enough. Charged me for two vegan scoops while only giving me one scoop and of the wrong flavor. Didn't mention anything about subbing out another flavor and when asked, just claimed it was two scoops. Guess they don't care when it's not their money being spent. $12 for one scoop of vanilla. Wasn't even good, threw it out. read more

Yes, they do make their own confections. They also make their own ice cream and have Blue Moon! Blue Moon is more of a tradition in the northern states in the middle of the country that has a flavor of cereal milk. It's refreshing to go to an ice cream shop and not see Graham Central Station. That is a dead give away that they serve Bliss ice cream, which used to be good. But they are now owned by New England Creamery, which is owned by Unilever and Bliss now sucks. Swell Willey's also makes their own jimmies, which look like chocolate vermicelli, not the waxy sprinkles most places serve. The girls that helped us were absolutely lovely. My husband got his favorite, salt water taffy. And all was good in the world. read more

Yum! I tried the coconut patty dipped in milk chocolate and I think I am still in a sugar coma. The chocolate covered pretzels were amazing and fresh - Frannie ordered them that morning and when we got there, he was just finishing them. I also got some turtles and fudge to take home. The chocolate did not make it past the second day - that is a good indication of how good they are. My only complaint is that it is toooooo narrow - when it got crowded (the other side is the ice cream part), I got a little claustrophobic. But I survived to make it another day! read more

A wonderful little candy shop that makes their own candies. We stopped in after a day of bike riding and got a sugar fix. Homemade turtles, peanut clusters, coconut chocolate covered marshmallows, fudge. Its all good and made fresh daily. Minus 1 star for it being so small and crowded. It is uncomfortably small. After reading a great review of Swell Willey's in the Boston Globe, I had to check it out. I took a small bag of fresh salt water taffy to the cash register and while waiting for my change, I said I wanted to buy the large bag instead. The cashier told me I couldn't do that since they didn't accept returns. I was floored. I wanted to make an $11 purchase instead of a $5.50 purchase! I explained that to her. She was firm and slightly rude. I was holding the small bag but, hadn't even received the change but, she would not let me exchange for a larger purchase. Not going back. read more

I bought caramel turtles, toffee, ect in that first case closer to the door, everything tasted like a carbon dioxide freezer yuck. Oh the smell of chocolate when you walk in the door. I've never asked if they carry this scent in a perfume or cologne. Willing to bet they haven't gone that far yet. Mom always said it was the saltwater that made the chocolate taste so good. I believed her for far longer than I should have on that one. I've been going to Willey's since I was a wee tot. A tiny narrow store with chocolate to one side and ice cream to the other -- left or right would depend on which door you came in, there's one at each end. Be prepared to bump into everyone since the customer walkway is as wide as many of Willey's customers. Two of my favorite things are the chocolate covered coconut balls and the chocolate covered pretzels. But everything else is just fine and dandy thankyouverymuch. The prices are a little lower than many specialty chocolate shops. Willey's is open year round with hours that differ depending on the season. They have sugar free chocolate for those who desire it. They also sell jelly fruit slices, saltwater taffy, and ice cream. The ice cream is their own and quite yummy. One complaint is that they often run out late in the day. So don't get your heart set on a flavor until you check availability! Also (very sad) no peanut butter sauce or purple cow flavor. read more

OK, so what can you say about Willey's? You can say they're sometimes soft, sometimes hard, sometimes gooey, sometimes sticky, sometimes salty and other times sweet. Wait! Get your mind out of the gutter!! We're talkin' about WIlley's CANDY here! Sheesh. They've been around for decades and it's a must stop for anyone visiting Salisbury beach. Seriously... they've got anything your little heart can desire. Salt water taffy, sugar-free taffy, all sorts of chocolates, fudges and even home made, chocolate covered peeps! The dark chocolate orange cremes and peanut butter cups are my favs. A quick note... to myself mostly: Don't eat an almost full 1/2 pound bag of sugar-free taffy in one sitting. Make that bag last. That is unless you've been constipated. All in all, you can't get much better candy than WIlley's. read more

Willey's!! How I love thee! :O) I grew up in Salisbury so Willey's was just a couple of miles up the road. Why it never occurred to me to wok there as a kid I will never know but in hindsight....probably a good thing. I'd be several feet wide by now! So I content myself with getting an enormous bag of goodies when I visit.....Milk chocolate pecan turtles, milk chocolate orange creams, almond bark, nonpariels and some milk chocolate cherries for my number one son. Family still in Salisbury kindly send me "fixes" on a regular basis and can be counted on for Christmas and Easter! Love them! :O) Although they do not currently have a website you may CALL them and they D-E-L-I-V-E-R!!!!!! Yeah, you know you've got it bad when you have them on speed dial! I am honored to write the first review for Willey's. I'm 28 and have been going here since birth. My grandparents used to live a few blocks from Willey's, and we would go on every visit. I always got the white chocolate non pariels, the pecan turtles, and the fruit slices, but everyone goes for the taffy (I'm partial to the peppermint!). I wish they had a website and could ship candy to me, because I haven't been there in years, but next time I'm in MA I'll definitely drop in and restock!!! read more

OMG! Stopped in with my sis & tried several candy's & is a great place for a chocolate fix!

This place is a nightmare...Where do I begin... My cousin waited for 14 minutes for them to make him a frappe in NO line. While waiting we observed a groundswell employee eating his ice cream while the girl was making the frappe. Another visit there was a dirty glove in open view on the pecan turtle tray. Also the creamsicle machine was broken for 6 months, probably still is. The chocolate creams I was told will soon be outsourced to another company. So homemade candy will soon be a think of the past at "Swell Willies". My last visit I went in to pick up a quart of ice cream, chocolate. The employee stated they had none in the freeze and that the price would include an addditional 3 dollar packing fee. Are you serious??? $9.50 for the quart plus 3 =12.50! This is absurd. In addition the employees are rude and act like they do not want to be there. They also appeared stressed. During my 2 week visit to the beach I never once saw the new owner present, in fact I was told she does not go or monitor the store like an operations manager should. She is unprofessional and has desecrated a 100 year old business. There is nothing swell in at or around Willies. The former owner Willy brought love and commitment to his work and customers. Something the new owner is clearly in need of! read more
