This is a third generation farm - their grandparents immigrated from Japan in the early 1900s. It's almost 300 acres and they've got apples, pears, peaches, cherries, berries, and probably more. The farmstand is open July through November. They've got a pick your own/U-pick options. They specialize in growing over 150 different varieties of apples, pears, cherries, and stone fruit. Their website is pretty up-to-date on which fruit are available at any given time. I really enjoyed stopping into the marketplace for a wide selection of pre-picked fruits, some of which had samples available. They were priced by weight and I was very pleased with the cost in the end ($12 for so many apples!).

Also, the info she gave contradicted the website's info. So, now I have no idea if she is wrong or the website is and there's no way to confirm without driving 2 hours all the way up there and seeing for myself because she's the only one answering the phone. Between this and hearing how drastically they have increased their prices recently, there is absolutely no reason to drive all the way out there. Lots of good orchards closer in that actually answer their phone FROM THEIR LOCATION and will tell you exactly what is available and when. Skip this place if you have self-respect and a life.

Their orchards are on the hills and some areas are steep so know that before you go. The views from their hills are spectacular! Reminds me of the rolling hills and vineyards of Tuscany. The trees are bursting with cherries and it's so easy to fill a bucket in no time. On the day I visited recently, the dark black-purple Titans were ripe and so sweet. For $2.25 a pound, they are worth every penny! I picked 10 pounds and gifted bags to my friends. They supply buckets and I brought my own bags to dump them in. Workers are friendly. Cherries the sweetest. Views incredible. 5 stars all the way! Located 60 minutes from Portland, it's a beautiful ride. So much to do in the Gorge so spend the day there after you pick cherries. Oh, and wear a hat as the sun is strong!

What is unique and what I love best, is the orchard is on flat land. No hills to climb, just easy, peasy access to the delicious fruit. This family owned business is great for families, too. They have a shaded area with picnic tables and even a few hammocks where you can rest or picnic afterwards. Perfect way to make a morning or afternoon visiting this beautiful orchard. They supply the buckets and the trees are just steps from where you park and they are bursting with cherries. And right at arm level! The varieties are intermixed so in a small space, and in just 15 minutes, you can easily pick 8 pounds. Sounds like a lot but if you are gifting or baking, they go fast. I like to eat them as is! Prices were $2 a pound which is phenomenal. I gave them a few extra dollars because I most definitely sampled as I picked! The charming small town of Mosier is just 60 minutes from downtown Portland. The drive through the Columbia Gorge is breathtaking. Once you take the Mosier exit, there are signs pointing you to Lopez Farms and other cherry orchards on the same street. Cherry season is last week of a June-July so don't miss it! Make a day of it. Pick cherries, have a picnic, then get coffee at Randonne on Main Street in Mosier. Take a ride up to Rowena Crest for more spectacular views of the Columbia River and a hike. Visit Hood River or the many waterfalls along I-84. So much to do!

Just follow the clear signs along the road. The second time we picked 10 lbs. of cherries to bring home to Texas for friends and family. They are perfect for snacking, making pies, jams, and jellies. The orchard is relatively flat, making it so easy to walk amongst the trees. There are no hills to climb, just easy access to the trees and cherries! They have dwarf trees, so cherries are within reach for everyone, even the kids. This is a family owned business, and they welcome families to the farm. They have a petting zoo, tractor rides, and a picnic area. Dogs on leashes are welcome. Located in Mosier, which is just one exit past Hood River (exit 69 on I-84), the best cherries are from this area. Mosier is a high dessert, so it gets lots of sun on their open fields and hills. The scenery is breathtaking with views of Mt. Adams in the distance. At just $2.50 a pound, grab a bucket and pick away! Piatt Famiky Farm is just 1.6 miles from the exit, up on Carroll Road. They are open Friday-Sunday, 9am to 6pm, while cherry season lasts.

When we got there, we followed the signs that took us exactly where we need to go. Towards the entrance, there are red cherries available, but if you ask the employees, they will show you where the other color cherries are. We decided to walk from the entrance to the yellow cherries. There was a sweet lady that said she will give us a ride back to the top once we were done picking the yellows in her buggie. She stick around the area and kept an eye out for when we were done. Then she drove us back to the cashiers and our car location. Overall, it was a great experience.

It spans several hills and there are two entry point locations. One on Root Oqd and one on Carroll. Check their website which will tell you which cherries are ripe and ready to pick, and at which location. So helpful! While the orchard is really huge, picking is easy because you can drive through the rows of trees and park right near where you want to pick. This makes it super convenient and easy. The fields are flat which is another thing I appreciate. Just be careful walking around as there are sprinkler heads and other things you can trip over. Yes, I'm telling you this from experience! Ouch. Mosier definitely has the best cherries!! And the best prices. At $2.00-$2.50 a pound, they are far cheaper than those on the Hood River Fruit loop. Drive one exit past Hood River (exit 69) to the town of Mosier and within minutes you are at Root Farms and several other cherry farms. The ride to Mosier is beautiful as the Columbia River widens and the basalt cliffs on the Washington side are gorgeous. Since I'm here all the time, I pick at several each season to support local.

Seeing a post on Facebook, I had to stop by. After one visit, Alpenglow has become my regular stop for the most delicious fresh eggs and produce. The first time I was there, it was a sunny 80 degree early fall day, and after checking out the beautiful and inviting back patio, I had to stay for a delicious hard cider. It was so peaceful sitting out back, watching the chickens roam, her little girls laughing and jumping in the trampoline, and the beautiful view of Hood River Valley. There are even baby goats for the kids to enjoy. Or adults like me who adore goats! Alpenglow partners with other local farmers to ensure they are providing the freshest fruit and produce at competitive prices. Fruit varies depending on what is in season - Albion strawberries, blueberries, Asian pears, a variety of apples, fresh corn, Italian plums, chanterelle mushrooms, onions, black garlic, pumpkins, roasted pumpkin seeds, grapes, pears, and tomatoes - just to name a few from my recent visit! Blossom Baking provides homemade s'mores kits - the chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers all made from scratch! Plus cookies, hand pies and regular size pies. New this month is chicken pot pies! They are conveniently located right across the street from WAAM (Western Antique Aeroplane & Automotive Museum) on Rucker Road. Just pull in the driveway and the farm stand is in the building in the far left. Plenty of parking, just drive slow and watch out for the chickens!
