    Morning dove

This little guy crashed into our window while trying to escape a falcon and injured its wing. This was the closest rescue nearby, so we brought it in. Coincidently, they had just taken in another fledgling from the same area -- and they're planning to keep them together while they recover which was great to know. Overall, we had a great and quick experience with them taking him in. If you ever come across an animal in need, do check this place out.

So Sunday before last I saw some kids in my complex poking at something on the ground. I went out to see what it was thinking big bug maybe, to my shock it was a teenie weenie little bird with a long beak. I knelt down and gently touched it thinking it was dead. It had clearly fallen out of the nest about 20 feet up. It moved and let out a loud peep. So I gently picked it up and brought it in the house I wasn't about to let one of the complexes outside cats eat it. Screw the circle of life today. We gently boxed him up after making a makeshift t-shirt nest. Then we checked and saw the Wildlife care association was open til 6 and drove over. When we arrived you could see a great number of cars. Thank goodness they have a lot of volunteers. Upon entry the woman behind the counter smiled and said she'd be right with me after she finished up with the guy she was helping. Once done she beckoned me over asking what I had. She exclaimed oh my! When she saw the little bird. She was incredibly knowledgeable and knew immediately it was a Male hummingbird. I was extremely worried the little guy wasn't going to make it, but she said he looked strong and healthy but his wing was damaged pretty bad. She also assured me there was a place in Auburn that specializes in small birds. The entire staff were excited to see the little one and I knew he was hopefully going to be ok. I seriously needed a win after the slew of things that have happened over the last year. It was a little hard to get to the place only because one of the main roads was now closed. I've brought in a couple of birds to this place and Every time they have been grateful to me for bringing in the animals and not leaving them to die. These people are amazing at what they do and I urge you to donate if at all possible to help them out.

This place was amazing :) It offered excellent service, the staff were really kind and helping. I went there to drop off a wild squirre, both its hind legs were possibly broken because it fell from a palm tree, got scared and ran like a madman when my dog was chasing after it, and was possibly bitten by him.

Wildlife Care Association came in clutch for me! I have taken many animals here in the past. Several small birds, small mammals and even baby opossums. That being said, I have never had an experience like this. On Dec. 6th my daughter and I were on our way home and decided to pick up dinner. Pulling into the parking lot at Mack rd. and Valley Hi, we spotted something jumping in front of the lit window of the establishment we were ordering from. As I pulled up I shined my bright lights on it and saw that it was a young hawk. It's wing was obviously broken, splayed across its back. We knew we couldn't leave it. After approximately an hour or so, we had caught it. Short 1 meal and an extra passenger we headed home. I immediately called WCA and left a voicemail. We put our new buddy into a large dog carrier for the night and waited. First thing in the morning I received a call from Virginia. I explained the situation and we discussed next steps. I let them know I had a couple of meetings that day and driving him/her there would be a challenge. She immediately contacted volunteers in my area whom had experience with falcons and shortly thereafter I received a call from Chris. She offered to pick wee bit up at my home that morning. Chris was even able to transfer from my carrier to her own which was definitely a win in my book. Wildlife Care Association is a nonprofit and need volunteers and donations. I will be donating my time and spare change as I have definitely relied on their services!!

I found this poor little guy "Ralphie" near the American River and CARE took him in today! Fingers crossed he makes it!

I found a baby squirrel yesterday near the American River. The little one fell nearly 30 ft from a tree, we waited around a while for the mom to retrieve the baby, but no such luck. We took him in for the night with a heating pad. Very hearty baby and did well through the night. I brought him to the wildlife care association the next day, after first trying CAPE at UC Davis (don't take wildlife orphaned wildlife apparently). Very nice staff, took him in and I donated all that I had with me! Absolutely no pressure either which made me even happier to give them what I could! I will update any thing I find out about "Ralphie." Planning on calling them in a week to check up on him! Will update later. 9-13-13 Not sure what happened to poor little Ralphie. I called and messaged them a few times about "adopting him" aka donating further to his cause, but I couldn't get anyone to respond. Here's hoping that he survived!

We weren't quite sure what this little fella was, in terms of a squirrel or a field mouse. But it turns out it's a baby squirrel, he'll live

We found a baby squirrel in our backyard that was abandoned by her mama so we dropped off the squirrel and made the proper donation so this little fella can live a Wonderful Life. The folks here or very nice and we had a great experience, if this happens again we'll come here again. Thank you

I'm grateful that this facility is in place and for the caring work done by the volunteers. I recently had to drop off a week or so old jack rabbit who's habitat was destroyed. The woman at the front desk was kind and paid attention to detail about the care of Houdini (He was an escape artist:)) I felt very comfortable dropping him off there. If you can donate to this facility. . . It doesn't even have to be much they are grateful for whatever you can give.

Found this young pigeon on my handlebars in North natomas. So glad I found him! Was too young to fly away from danger!

Wildlife Association mails too many requests for donation. There is no place on their website to cancel.

I came here to volunteer, and to my surprise, there were even younger kids participating. I learned that the minimum volunteer age is 10 years old. Some students were volunteering for school service hours, while others came through different companies and organizations. We joined the second shift from 1pm-4pm. The session started shortly after 1pm with a briefing and task assignments from the group leader. All tasks were explained clearly. The leaders checked on us throughout the shift to make sure we were doing okay and to see if anyone had concerns. Halfway through the shift, we had a 15-minute break, and one of the leaders brought ice cream to celebrate a volunteer's birthday and shared it with everyone. I thought it was a meaningful way to celebrate a birthday while helping a good cause. We actually finished around 3:30pm, and our shift completed: - 5,451 lbs of food packed - 474 boxes prepared for the "No Student Goes Hungry" program supporting students from elementary school through college in Sacramento County. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, and the facility was clean and organized. Restroom: clean, bright, and decent. If you are interested in volunteering, check out their website and register in advance.

Within all of this stuff, was a bunch of new and lightly used clothing. In the past I have donated clothing to my local Goodwill Express. However, I did some reflection and realized that all of the clothing that I donated was being sold for profit. Going forward, my intention was to donate to an organization that receives the donation(s) and distributes them to underprivileged individuals/families free of charge. Some research led me to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Upon calling to verify their hours (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 10am-1pm and Wednesday, 4pm-7pm), I gathered all of the clothing and hit the road on a mission to make a difference. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a Sacramento Food Bank employee who eagerly began to load my clothing donations onto a cart. Since a lot of the clothing consisted of dress pants and dress slacks, he proceeded to inform me about a program called "Job Smart Clothing." Job Smart Clothing is a program within Sacramento Food Bank that provides career appropriate apparel for underprivileged individuals interviewing for employment or currently employed. How cool is that? I'm not a representative for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. However, I will say that they provide an awesome service to the community, and that a little donation goes a long way (individuals who benefit from their services often leave with 15-20 pieces of clothing per visit). Before you throw away that piece of clothing that you think is out of style or doesn't quite hug your curves the way that they used to, think about donating it to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services!
