The biggest ongoing issue has been ants coming out of multiple wall outlets and sockets in our apartment. When I first reported it to the office, they told us they were fruit flies, which made no sense. They eventually sent an exterminator out, and he confirmed they were definitely ants. He explained that the ants were actually inside the walls of the building and gave a long explanation about returning to treat the larger building issue. That was months ago, and we have never seen him again. The ants are still here, so at this point we've just bought our own supply of Raid and stopped bothering with work orders and we do not wish for them to send anyone back. We also had issues with the "smart" smoke detectors they installed. They would go off at random times, extremely loudly, during the day and in the middle of the night while we were asleep. They eventually replaced ours with the older version, which fixed our issue, but our next-door neighbor apparently still has the smart ones. Because the walls are thin, when hers randomly goes off, it's loud enough to wake us up. For a place advertised as a gated community, the gates seem to be broken more often than they actually work. On top of that, the garage entry door to our building--which is supposed to require a key card--has been broken for months. I reported it and was told they were waiting on a part from a vendor. Four months later, it still hasn't been repaired, which means anyone can access the building through that entrance without a key card. Considering how astronomical the rent is, these issues are really disappointing. We're definitely counting down the months until our current lease is up so we can move on.

The former tenant then has the right to refuse their claim. Absent of that, after 30 days they are required by law to return the full deposit if they did not provide proper notification. Management had my contact information including a forwarding address. They also had my wife contact information. When I did call had to leave messages that were never returned was by luck I managed to speak to the manager after a month. She could not provide an answer as to what happen or if the check had been mailed. and had to look into the matter but then never followed up. I had to follow up again leaving unanswered messages till finally getting a leasing consultant. In 5 minutes she had the answer that they were keeping the deposit as we would only be getting $36.00 out of $1880. Claiming damage to the carpet. The carpet needed a cleaning, and they waited till we were out to do an inspection. They knew we were moving out of state and had a time frame. They still failed to provide proper notice to us as required by Florida law as to why they were keeping the deposit. Per the same law they are required to return the full amount of the deposit if they do not send notice. During the times I spoke with them not once did they state they tried to mail us the notice but it was returned. meaning no notice sent. Looking at possible legal action if the matter is not resolved.

Maria who was the one who assisted us kept giving me the runaround that they are waiting to hear back from our current apartment, or our paystubs because they refuse to use the job number because they get charged and will not pay. Ok, they request paystubs which we have for years but no now they require our taxes for the year that I didn't complete because my husband and I got an extension till the fall. They tell us within five days of moving in we got approved but after this experience I declined as we have to make sure so we are not left with nowhere to go. The previous week I applied at a different apartment and got approved within 72 hours so we decided to take our losses and move on cause if this is how they treat residents we want no part of that.

Neighbors were quiet and the apt was furnished with everything we needed. Oh - and the bed was extremely comfortable- which is always important! Dan was very responsive to any questions we had and we are glad we found the Island Suites to check out the Tampa area!

My partner thought he possibly just didn't close the door the night before ? And I didn't really question it. And now that I look back at my car door being open, being the only vehicle towed "for no tag" (yet there were other vehicles not tagged in resident parking) my car all the way at the back of the community was picked out to be towed. And now my ignition starter being ripped out and lightbulb glass scattered on my seat. I'm a stay at home mom, I don't talk to anyone or come out! Who hates me this much to do this and before Christmas. I filed a police report. This place doesn't seem like it has cameras. Its 11am but for other yelp people, I'll take a picture about how the night lamps that they have posted DO NOT WORK back here. Two of them are out and it's been like that for months now. It's dark as hell to be walking to my apartment with my 8 month old. They opted to close two days and only offer appointment only on Saturday. Additionally they have removed some abilities from the office, making the resident to have to call a corporate number and speak to a faceless person who has no stake in the residents on the property. When you do get a chance to visit the office everything is resolved by directing the resident to the portal where they can do it themselves. Ultimately, Cortland seems to want to run a virtual property.
