I had an absolutely incredible and beyond impressive experience at Venus during a visit to buy…read moremakeup for my wedding. I wear moisturizer, mascara and chapstick and that's it. Always. So getting makeup for the big day wasn't necessarily daunting, but I was really just looking for someone to tell me what I needed and literally pick it out for me. The ladies at Venus did exactly this without being the least bit condescending or trying to sell me anything they didn't think I needed. As I told them what I was hoping for and what I was comfortable with, they led me through picking each element and applying it on my face, right there. Not only was this a lot of fun, but they know what they're doing. Both women that worked on me--one of which was the owner--are licensed cosmetologists and their work was impeccable. These aren't just women who think makeup is fun or something--they're serious about what they do and they honestly, genuinely want you to feel beautiful. The product is amazing and, yes, very expensive. I think it's worth it though. This is top of the line stuff that I will have for a long time and love using. I would recommend Venus to anyone looking to treat themselves to something special or to look extra amazing for a special occasion. Such a beautiful shop with the nicest women imaginable behind the counter. I will be back! I need some mascara!

I buy the canine product to help with my dog's arthritis symptoms and her canine cognitive dysfunction, because the anthocyanins in the product are known to penetrate the brain/blood barrier and can reduce inflammation. Every stylist is top notch and I know from their social media they travel and do continuation training to stay up on the latest trends and techniques. I see Micah who's amazing and hilarious; I'm pretty Type A but I always let him do whatever he thinks is best for my hair and I've never been disappointed. But Liza, Libby, and Shannon are all amazing as well. I cannot recommend them enough - actually I've had a friend from Chicago get a pretty drastic cut last summer and she went here based on my recommendation. Over Christmas my sister, who lives in Austria, booked an appointment with Sienna for a cut and color (her first cut in two years and the last time she had it colored was probably 10+ years ago) and Sienna did such an amazing job taking how it'd grow out into consideration and she was so pleased when she left, I was completely obsessed. I've never been unhappy leaving this salon, in fact, I always feel like a million bucks. Plus they have wine and coffee which is great because by the time I get there I'm needing one or the other :) Just a great crew with great skills and products. Love you guys! I searched my phone and apparently have a ton of photos of me being extra after getting my hair done... enjoy lol

Eeek, Salon Allure's gotten a bit big for their britches…read more.. The morning of my good friend's wedding. Four bridesmaids and the mother of the groom trek to Salon Allure for some high falutin', super stylin' hair flair. Armed with muffins, fruit and champagne, this was to be a few hours to relax before the madness... Salon Allure has a BEAUTIFUL new space. Relaxing, classic, smooth and contemporary. Nestled in an up-and-coming stretch of Union Street...it's poised to pamper. Nice digs. The good... Heather did my hair and the hair of one other bridesmaid. She was talkative, congenial, gave me the perfect "country club" poof hair. A little bit fancy, but mostly I looked myself, but a grown up. She even hid my streak (for the most part), and I'm sure the bride appreciated that ;) She curled the hell out of the other girl's hair...looked beautiful. The bad: The rest of the staff just seemed terribly unenthused. It was disappointing. The girl that did two of the girl's hair was hardly friendly, borderline curmudgeonly. But, whatever...it is what it is, and then...we got the bill. I am sorry, my friends. If you are going to charge $95 for a pretty novice looking updo, you best do it with a damn smile. $95. I was in SHOCK. ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. None of them took over 40 minutes. My blowdry style: $45 3 updos: $95/pop Mother of the Groom: $80 So we are talking, around $500 with tip to basically rearrange some hair. Make an effort. SERIOUSLY. So, basically...this place needs to get over itself....or step up to the plate with better work and better service. (this excludes Heather, she was great). But 50 percent still equals: pretty lacking. 3 stars is generous, as it may have been an off day. But hey, your friend only gets married once, and I don't live here anymore...so one chance is all they get....we could've gotten better styles at JC Penny for almost HALF the price.
