Wow this place is amazing! I recently went on a weekend rafting trip with some friends who have been coming to Wilderness Tours for years but this was my first shot at white water rafting. We arrived at 5pm on Friday and were quickly registered and given our choice camp site right near the main building, bathrooms/showers, campfire, etc... The trip included 3 meals on Saturday and two on Sunday as well as the rafting on Saturday, all the equipment, the camping and the use of the facilities. Since dinner wasn't included on Friday we ordered from the patio while listening to some great jazz music from a local group. My friend and I both ordered the club sandwich, which was served on a delicious focaccia bread. The food for the rest of the weekend was really good as well. Burgers for lunch on Saturday and chicken breast for dinner. Friday night concluded with a great time around the campfire where all the campers came to socialize. On Saturday we were booked on the 2pm "sunset" trip, which meant we were on the water from 3pm till 7:45. This was perfect since it gave us all morning to recover from the night before. The rafting itself was amazing. Nothing like the rush of facing a 12 ft wall of white water coming right at your face to get your blood pumping. Our guide Katie was really great. Very social and great on the river. We did everything from paddling our hearts out in the rapids to cliff jumping to surfing a wave (a.k.a. controlled drowning lol). They had guys in kayaks taking pictures and filming us throughout the day. When we came back, we had the chance to view some of the highlights from the day on the big screen back at camp. One of the coolest part of the weekend was that Bud Camp was hosting their event at WT. We had no idea until we showed up. Everyone was invited to come see the bands performing on Saturday night, which had USS playing the main show. Even though it was pouring rain and we were soaked, USS' crazy antics on stage and a bunch of scantily clad rain soaked Bud girls made up for it. :) Finally, we decided to end the weekend with an early morning bungee jump. If you book ahead of time you save about $13. This was my first jump and I survived to write this review. It was definitely one of the best rush I've ever experienced. I strongly recommend this to EVERYONE who comes to Wilderness Tours. Ask to be dunked in the water at the bottom. You won't regret it. I'm already looking forward to coming back next year!

Tried to book a cyber week deal, checked out with 40% off for kayak school activity, service rep contacted me couple times and realized they only offer 20% for kayak school. No apology, no explanation, only tell me do 20% or go away. Rafting business is naturally associated with some danger, I will totally avoid a business retreats customer as they are always RIGHT when they are not. Did rafting over weekends at July 2019. Luckily nothing serious happened at the time.

This place is phenomenal. I will be heading back this summer for my third time. Normally do the two day rafting tour. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for those not faint of heart. The weekend outing costs less than 300 dollars... includes camping, ALL FOOD, two days of white water rafting on the mighty Ottawa river. The place has a great restaurant... dock and waterfront for swimming, BUNGEE jumping! Dance club for partying, basketball, mountain bike rentals, volleyball, kayaking. Check out the website. I have gone just me and a buddy, and I have also brought a crew of 16 people. Fantastic time!!

Went by coach to Ottawa to camp for 2 days in the hot sunshine after rafting and kayaking. I went in the summer of 1991.

Glad to have checked that off my bucket list!…read more I didn't camp on their grounds. I found my own means of accommodation and just went spent the evening & day after in the area. It was fun! I recommend going in early/mid summer moments (as opposed to going in the early fall) because it'll probably be a lot warmer. If you have a wet suit and shoes, bring it. Those are extra costs. If you can find a deal on white water rafting, do it (groupon or teambuy are amazing for that). However with these deals, you'll be restricted with when you can redeem your trip/adventures (factor that in too! Early May to early June or August, if I remember correctly). It makes a huge difference as you save almost half in the cost of your trip. If you're traveling from Toronto, also keep in mind that it's a 5 hour drive (one way). The towns near Beachburg are scarce and have very few amenities so there isn't much sight seeing available in the area. We drove in circles trying to find a good restaurant. In terms of River Run itself, they provide a bbq lunch midway through the day which is excellent fuel for all that exercise your body probably isn't accustomed to (unless you go water rafting on the regular of course). It was an amazing experience that I'd say you should try at least once in your life. If you're into water sports, you will absolutely love it. Going white water rafting is an adrenaline rush. P.S. Get the 6 man raft; you won't regret it!

All-in-all, I was very happy with my trip to RiverRun, despite them needing a bit of work on their…read moreorganization. M'lady and I were camping two nights and rafting on the day between the two nights. When m'lady and I got to the camp grounds after-hours, we were told earlier that day that there'd be a map left for us telling us where to go. Unfortunately there was only a map with someone else's name and it referred to their cabin (we were camping). So going through my previous e-mails with this guys, we ended up figuring out where to pitch our tent, so fortunately we figured that out with the help of the map that was left for the other people (we left it there for them, but used it for reference to determine where to go). In the morning, we went to the office and they told us where to register for the rafting and also provided us with a map. The rafting itself was alright. The intro was decent, however our guide wasn't very knowledgeable of the area, claiming that he wasn't from Canada as an excuse. He did know a fair amount about the waters we were rafting on however, and also how to take each rapid, so that was all good and fun. The video that was made of our rafting experience was definitely not one of the better videos I've seen, so there was no way we were purchasing a copy (I wish they had made a better ver of it so that we could have bought a visual of our experience, but oh well). At the end of our rafting trip, we were brought to the beach of RiverRun's campground area and invited to enjoy the beach including the water slide on it, the sauna, and in the evening the live performance. There was also a pub on-site for the enjoyment of the guests. Also there was a ping pong table and a fooseball one. We played some fooseball after watching the vid on their two comparatively small flat screens (was rather hard to see much on them, so that wasn't the best way of them promoting their DVD they were trying to sell). We didn't participate much in any of the other events, but we were able to overhear the live music, which we found to be very decent as the performer was very good at matching the voices of the artists' whose songs he was performing. So all-in-all, if I was a fan of rafting the Ottawa river (this was my 2nd time rafting on it), I'd return to this venue. Especially with a group deal voucher, it was definitely worth the price.

The Owl Rafting people were great--good humored, young, sociable, experienced, funny, very competent. A lot of attention given to safety, and the equipment was good. The ride was very exciting--a lot of action but nothing scary. The food on the pontoon boat at the end was very good (grilled pork chops, orzo salad, vegetable salad etc.) The scenery was fantastic--we're not sure why the Upper Ottawa seems unknown to so many tourists, but we hope it stays that way. The river is huge (more like a large lake in places), the forest looks primeval, and there are very few houses.

I am in the midst of taking OKS's 5 day Beginner Whitewater Kayaking class. Unfortunately, I have…read morelearned that OKS is not an appropriate whitewater kayak school for beginners. I have taken beginner kayaking courses at Zoar, NOC, Wet Planet and CWC in the US and this company performs at a substantially lower level. First, they use kayaks that are not appropriate for beginners as they are way more easily tipped than the standard creek boats that the other companies use. This makes it hard for beginners to learn techniques as you are regularly flipped upside down in the water. I have never seen in a class so many people flipped as I did today and my past classes have run much harder sections of water. Second, they have a culture that highly discourages pulling your kayak skirt and swimming. This culture combined with boats that flip easily makes the environment unsupportive for students to try hard and learn. I have never before been in a beginner class where I have been told that we are expected to learn how to roll in a week. Third, my instructor was supposed to work an evening shift in the kitchen between his day with us today and tomorrow teaching us whitewater kayaking. Instructors need to be not overly tired so they can perform well in a high consequence environment. Additionally, on day 1 we saw the instructor of another OKS group struggle to get his students back upright during roll practice. It was terrifying. Fourth, the company doesn't not manage its logistics effectively. After running a section of river today, we were supposed to be picked up at 3pm. Instead, we sat wet and cold until we were picked up at 5pm which probably only happened because I kept begging the instructor to call and find out where our pick up was. When I tried to walk around while we waited so that I could keep warm, the instructor told us we couldn't as OKR management doesn't like when guests walk around unattended and he didn't want to get in trouble. So we sat for 2 hours wet and cold. Finally, the company's communication is highly lacking. When we called in advance of our class to confirm they had wet and drysuits for us to use, we were told they had both and we could borrow them. Therefore, we didn't bring our own. It turns out the staff who answered our questions didn't even know what a drysuit is and they were wrong. Thus, we had to pay to rent their wetsuits. In addition, we had to ask our instructor to procure sandwiches that met our dietary constraints despite those diet requests being listed on the receipt that we got from the front office when we checked in. We also had experience with them changing the start time in the morning and not communicating it to us. All issues that other companies have solutions to prevent happening. Thus, I highly recommend that beginner kayakers look for another company that will provide both a safer and more enjoyable experience.
