We took a three generation (ages 6 to 80) raft trip (low intensity) last Friday, all on same raft, and it was fabulous. The Owl Rafting people were great--good humored, young, sociable, experienced, funny, very competent. A lot of attention given to safety, and the equipment was good. The ride was very exciting--a lot of action but nothing scary. The food on the pontoon boat at the end was very good (grilled pork chops, orzo salad, vegetable salad etc.) The scenery was fantastic--we're not sure why the Upper Ottawa seems unknown to so many tourists, but we hope it stays that way. The river is huge (more like a large lake in places), the forest looks primeval, and there are very few houses. read more

My friends and I went there this week. My husband and I stayed overnight in a darling cabana. Our friends camped. The day of our rafting we were served a scrumptious breakfast. I was surprised how delicious it was. We were eating right by the waterfront which was gorgeous. The rafting experience was absolutely amazing. Run very well and very efficiently. When we were on the water it was truly magical experience. We are so glad we came. After rafting we were served a scrumptious late lunch on a pontoon boat. And we're towed back to the beginning. . I should not say told back we sailed back to the our headquarters. There we were able to view the video of our days excursion. I'll rafting exceeded my expectations. I made it one of the most memorable days of my summer. I would absolutely recommend it. read more

Great family weekend trip! We chose to do the 2 Day Rafting Adventure which was enjoyed by all. The cabins were cozy and lots to do on the resort. 12 of us in total participated in rafting which was a lot of fun! Perfect day on the water! Facility is clean and well-maintained. We forgot straps for our glasses, but picked up a couple pairs in the store, which offers the basics. Make sure to bring cash for under $10 purchases and to tip your awesome guide. Check in was efficient and easy, and after a (free!) coffee and quick but thorough briefing, we were off to take on the mighty Ottawa river. We went sport rafting and our guide, Straun, made sure we had an amazing time! He is super knowledgeable about rafting and the river itself, and incredibly enthusiastic about both. He also demonstrated sincere teamwork - he literally scream-cheered for his coworkers when they hit it, helped a fearful cliff jumper from another boat to overcome her fear, and adjusted our experience based on our group's desire for a little extra challenge on the water... really a fantastic representative for the company! Staff from beginning to end took great care of us, and worked hard to make it a fun day. They succeeded and we'll be back! read more

OWL Rafting was a fantastic experience! It was our first time on rapids and the team made us feel so comfortable and excited. Our guide Caelan was absolutely amazing and probably the highlight of the trip. I got a little bumped up but he quickly performed First Aid and ensured I was comfortable before we continued our way down the rapids (he even sent me home with a little baggie of supplies to make sure everything healed properly). Everything was run very well and efficiently and it was a magical experience and a great day! Will definitely be back next year. read more

One of the most exciting adventures i've ever been to! If you're into outdoor activities and never tried rafting, this place is a must try! From the minute we got there, checking in was easy, we were giving directions to our cabins, the place is beautiful, with a nice lounge centred in the middle where there is daily food (included open buffet), music, etc....along with a cash bar.. There are adventures for everyone, water sports, etc... We did the drafting on two days, first day we got on the big boat with over 10ppl which is almost impossible to flip, while the second was much more fun in the small boat, we got to flip so many times and it was just so much fun! There are showers and bathrooms, and the place is kept well while it's still outdoors! Highly recommended read more

Amazing experience. Nani was a wonderful guide with a great sense of humor. The day was very well planned. For first-timers, it is a fun, exciting, and even perfect day out. The food was really good on the pontoon boat. No matter what you forget, they have it for sale. I rented a wetsuit, top only, which was very helpful since it was 22c degrees weather. We had a great group of people on our raft. I was so worried about what to expect that I visited them the night before, and I got a good sense of how my day was going to unfold. The staff is very welcoming. My kids are teenagers, and they had a lot of fun on the raft I had to bring my inhaler and the guide kept it with him, so I did not have to worry about that. This review is OVERDUE. How did I keep it all inside? My family and I went on an Owl Tour rafting day trip this summer and it was wonderful. First of all, it's a gorgeous and well-maintained campsite that spans the Ottawa river. The weather could not have been more perfect, only amplifying the scenery. Everything was very straightforward. You check in, sign the if-you-die-we're-not-responsible waiver and they tell you everything about where you need to be and when. An orientation talk is informative and surprisingly hilarious from a bleach blonde hair, surfer dude who you know has done this a million times but still manages a ton of enthusiasm. Time for helmets, life jackets, cheap wetsuit rentals if you need that, and getting on the bus. You're taken to a different area of the Ottawa river where all the boats and you're guide is there waiting for you with a smile on their face. You get on the boats and have little lesson on the lingo and positions needed for the rest of the day. Off you go! Lots of rapids, nothing too life threatening at all. I wasn't scared for a second with the hunky guide, cracking jokes all along the way. There's not even a lot of paddling for those of you that are afraid of physical activity. Check out the pipes... You stop at a drop off for some cliff jumping and snacks. The cliffs are fun, quite high so don't even try any crazy jumps- you'll just end up hurting yourself. They make you do up the "happy straps" on you life jacket while you jump. You know, the ones that go between the legs... Anyways! It's a fun stop with trail mix and juice. The best part was lunch. Weird to say, I know and don't get me wrong, I did love the rafting. But there's nothing quite like a hard days work, then pulling up to two pontoon boats with a fresh barbecue waiting for you. Oh look, there's a bag of your dry clothes that you set aside for them earlier. Lunch changes up but that day it was cesar salad, pasta salad, and sausage on a bun with hot coffee, tea, water and juice. What a day and it's not even finished! You boat back to the campsite and watch a video of your travels. Yes, a videographer/kayak expert has been following us around the entire trip, only to come back, edit everything together for a viewing shortly after. You can buy the video! You can also buy anything you forgot at the gift shop. You can also have an amazing day with your loved ones. AMAZING. Do it. read more

Okay, I am not exactly Mr. Outdoors. I sunburn too easily, fear bugs and hate getting cold and wet. And yet somehow I was coerced into white water rafting. Really I was shamed into it. Something about if the kids do it, then shouldn't their daddy.. Anyhow, we signed up and away we went. And...I LOVED it! For around $100 a person, we suited up (with helmet) and rafted down the Ottawa River. And what a trip it was - who would ever think that Ontario (flat as it is) would have those kind of rapids. The guides were fun - they got us competing with the other boats, we stopped for sightseeing, swam around in spots. It was awesome. Don't be a chicken, like I used to be, go rafting! read more

This was my first white water rafting trip. Me and my friends decided to rent the 6 people sport raft at OWL Rafting during Canada Day's weekend. Before our trip, we had to arrive for the debrief, where the guide went over basic safety procedures. Since it was raining and extremely cold that day, we were able to rent wetsuits for an extra layer of warmth. The rental fee was very reasonable and saved me from the cold! After we got all of our gear from the well-maintained campsite, the bus took us to the loading area where we met our guide and prepared for our trip. The Ottawa River was beautiful and we got to enjoy the view while we were learning the basics of rafting. The rapids that we went over were so exhilarating and we had so much fun! I just want to mention how extremely impressed I was with our guide, Tristan. He was so professional and we had so much fun while feeling comfortable and safe. I fell into the water several times and he acted very fast in getting others out of the water. At the end of the trip, we were served with an amazing lunch that consisted of warm drinks (it was a very cold day), and tasty BBQ with salad on the side. Overall, my friends and I had so much laughter during this trip. Best of all, we were able to use the beach after the trip where we can kayak or canoe to wrap up the day. read more

This place was really fantastic. The location is great, the people who work there are super nice and our guide was entertaining. The food was reasonable. the area was very clean. We were offered all types of entertainment like boats to take out on the lake, beach volleyball, a slide in the lake, a big fire at night, live music etc... We were a group of 8 but we still found a camping spot with a lot of privacy. All of us had a fun time and id recommend this place. read more

I've been a bunch of times and each time is better than the last. Danielle F describes the experience perfectly and what impresses me the most is how nice and yet professional all the staff were. I loved watching the kayaks that were flitting around while we went down in our raft - that looked like so much fun that I signed up at Owl's sister company, MKC (http://www.owl-mkc.ca/mkc/) and spent a wonderful few days there learning how to navigate whitewater myself. this review, much like someone else wrote, is grossly overdue coming to here for white water rafting was one of the best experiences of my life. the journey up from Toronto was brutal, a lot longer then expected(traffic!) but the wait was so worth it, our group woke up to an amazing breakfast, and got onto a bus for the loading area of the rafts. all of the staff assisting from every aspect was cheery and super helpful with every step of the process, the "worst" part of the experience was at the very beginning of the rafting trip, not having a watch I can only "gustimate" how long it took to get to get to the first rapid. I'd be safe to say maybe an hour of brutal rowing to get to the first rapid, after that, the whole day flew by. we stopped at an island for some barbequed lunch which was great. apart of the afternoon journey was matched with a section that we were not available to go down for safety reasons, we were dropped off at the top of a hill and then escorted and picked up at the bottom of the rapid. also a portion of this journey we were allowed to go down just with our bodies and not via a raft. which was an amazing experience to say the least. definitely worth the trip to experience this first hand, you could defiantly do this multiple days and not be bored, and the bonus of that is, as was explained by the wonderful staff of this experience. every day is a different run, and every season brings different water levels...plus with the weather. read more

What Owl is not responsible for is the weather and we went late Aug. /15 and the weather was not great, cold with some rain, so be it. The rafting is always an amazing adventure. The cabins have a tin roof, and tree droppings or rain, echo's through the cabin. The outdoor showers with a 1 1/2-2 foot open bottom was a little shocking. We sure didn't feel like going in naked and didn't. Beside the fact that our big boat flipped in a surf and with a few injuries, we survived with a great story to tell. What irked me was the Owl staff acted as though they were on the poverty line, when it came to food. Keep in mind we paid $600.00, for 2 people, a day of rafting, a day of relaxing, 5 meals each and a 2 night stay in the cabin. At a morning of breakfast, I asked for 2 hash browns and I was told by the staff member serving, they only hand out one hash brown at a time and then I had to explain I was getting one for someone else. Then, and on the day of rafting, at lunch when staff was handing out dessert, cookies, 2 cookies stuck together, and I thought no prob. I'll give the other one to the person I was with, but they came to take there own, and I was forced to put my fingers on one cookie because I was asked to put one back. Some pretty petty stuff, but it border-lined on ridiculous on their behalf, for me. I was not wowed by the service. I felt as though they were all about the money they were collecting, then about making sure we were taken care of and happy. I have gone twice before but with Wilderness and had no complaints with them and why I went some where else, still miffs me today. We went into Renfrew to stay at a hotel for our 2nd night. I will not do Owl again. read more
