All the buildings had a musty smell. we were having a reunion here and I drove three other people or I would have left the next morning. happy Hour didn't have a bar tender. the food was meh. All that would have been no big deal, but there is no way around biotoxin illness from mold. Everyone in the cabin left sick. We were offered a different cabin but they all stunk! The real kicker? I was offered $25 off my entire bill which is a slap in the face for what we endured. STAY AWAY from this pace for your health!

Other activities include tennis, shuffleboard, arcade room, mini-golf, fishing, floating, archery, and nice scenic areas for walking. This is a family owned business that started in 1949 and the owners are extremely friendly! They are very accepting of all ages and groups. I thought the stay would be convenient for room service and meals. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the restaurant was closed for the season, meaning that there was no room service, no restaurant and no food whatsoever. The only other liquor store closed at 4pm. There is no place to eat within a 25 mile radius. Also, the tiny TV had no signal. In order to get hot water in the shower, you had to run the sink water first. The worst thing happened, and after 30 minutes of being there, we received a phone call that we had a death in our family. I paid my insurance through Expedia just in case ... And we called Theresa to explain that, and they would not approve a refund for both nights, even though we were there less than one hour. They would not approve us for a full refund., even after knowing we had a death in our family and had to turn around and drive back to St. Louis. I would strongly recommend staying anywhere else on the planet than at the Black River Motel and Restaurant.

The prices were very reasonable, and the services offered are a godsend for local trail hikers, especially if you want to take advantage of Arcadia's Amtrak station. I came to Missouri to hike the Ozark Trail. Due to mechanical issues, my car wasn't up to the trip, so I had to take the train instead. The Fort Davidson Hotel offers a shuttle service between the hotel and the train station, as well as between the hotel and various trailheads. Tim picked me up from the station when the train arrived around 10 p.m. and drove me to the hotel, where my room was ready. The next morning, he drove me to a trailhead to begin my hike. Some days later, he met me at a different trailhead at an agreed-upon time and drove me back to the hotel. Tim's wife, Cindy, once again had my room ready, and even gave me a free upgrade to a room with a jaccuzzi tub to soak my sore muscles! Once I had cleaned up and changed, Tim drove me around town to pick up some snacks for the train ride home. There were two restaurant/bars a short walk away (half a mile), so I took care of dinner on my own. Finally, Tim woke up in the wee hours to drive me to the train station at 4 a.m. for the 4:25 train back home.
