Seafood paella... parboiled rice swimming in soup? Blah...

We had grilled sardines, which were good, and the red sangria was very good. BUT the seafood paella for two... come on... parboiled rice in tomato soup??? And the cost of it $45. Horrible! No dear chef, what you made is NOT 'Paella de Marisco', paella should be dry. Look it up. Friendly advice: If you don't know how to make it, just don't serve it! And call what you made 'Paella Soup' instead... it might be a new hit in Hamilton!

The seafood platter. Ask for bread to soak up the broth.

We were in town for a conference and had heard about the seafood platter at Wild Orchid so made our way down to pig out. We succeeded. The food was good and it was pure joy to have a massive earthenware bowl filled with lobster, king crab, prawns, scallops, mussels, and clams plopped in front of us. The place reflected its Portuguese food and drink sensibilities. The service was excellent and super friendly. We wanted cocktails to start but the bar wasn't stocked with the various ingredients. Our server tried really hard to accommodate us which we really appreciated. In the end we had green wine which was new to us, but was great with the seafood. Highly recommend this place but make a reservation to be safe as the place gets busy.

The only regret I have with this place is the fact that my wife and I waited two years before we came back. We were were worried that after two years the first time we were there was so awesome, with all the things that could change we wondered if it would still be good. Well, it was. We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary and we were so happy to be at Born And Raised again. The menu doesn't miss a beat. We started out with a couple of appetizers, steak tartare, and burrata done in a seasonal style with butternut squash. I thought it an odd combination but it was so amazingly good. Then our mains, I had the rigatoni with meatballs, and as a special feature item my wife had tagliatelle with braised short rib. I am always critical of Italian food given that my grandmother, mother, stepmother, wife, and mother-in-law are masters at it, but let me tell you their rigatoni with meatballs is the real deal. The sauce is amazing, pasta cooked perfectly, and meatballs were so delicious with every bite. The server was even cool about getting me some extra bread to clean up that sauce with which was an extra treat. I was able to beg for a couple of fork fulls from my wife for the tagliatelle with braised short rib, and it was so delicious. Oh yeah, and one other thing, in both cases the portions were fantastic. None of this two forkfuls thing for presentation, it tastes good, you're there to eat and eat well, and they deliver. They vibe in the place is very cool noise levels are fair, and they were playing some cool old school music when we went. All of the staff were friendly, and attentive always checking in. Can I recommend that for dessert you order their pecan pie. It's so amazingly delicious, as is the scoop of vanilla ice cream they dolloped on there. Yeah, I may have had to have put in some extra time at the gym the next day, but that kind of eating gave me high I rarely get in restaurants, and I wish the same for all of you that take this recommendation to heart. Well done to the staff of Born And Raised, and I promise it will NOT be another two years before we are back again.

My friend and I ordered the Secco platter which included brussels sprouts, truffle fries, wagu tacos, and shrimp. We asked them to sub the chicken for pork belly bao, and they did so free of charge. Not only was the food was delicious, the platter was also enough for two people and was reasonably priced. Inside was cozy, with a large bar in the middle. Would definitely recommend!

Started off with a glass of Flora Prosecco: a semi sweet cocktail with peach schapps, watermelon, lemon, st germain, & Prosecco. For mains, we shared the ube French toast & braised short rib benny. This was my first time trying ube, and I really enjoyed it! It's similar to taro but less starchy, and it has a slight savouriness to it that complemented the syrup and whipped cream on the French toast so well. The braised short rib was incredibly tender, and that cheddar biscuit - WOW. Literally was wiping my plate clean of the egg yolk & hollandaise sauce with them. Service was friendly & attentive even though there was only one server. What really made this experience special was the ambiance - warm lighting, and modern bar decor pieces juxtaposing the intricate crown moulding on the ceiling & chandelier.

The smoked and grilled portuguese chorizo sausage was small for $14.00 and not sliced up but rather had the appearance of hand torn pieces then thrown into a plate. The bifana sandwiches had good slices of pork, not very much though Overall, the flavors didn't appear to be authentically Portuguese in flavor, like the lack of garlic. Food was very muted and tame, plus there was no mustard at the table nor was it offered. Service was friendly and we were asked twice if we were doing okay or if we needed anything. We felt kinda welcomed when we came in to the restaurant but it seems to be more of a place most people get food to go. There were some tables so you can choose to dine in. At a guess there is about 12 tables for up to 3 people and four tables placed together to make a longer table for those who had a party of 8 diners who were together. There was no radio or music on tonight, but there was a tv playing a soccer match in the background. It was decent place, wish it was more authentic portuguese flavors but overall it was a 4 out 5.
