If you're tired of all the fluff and lack of heart at other martial arts schools in the area, then " just directa your feetza" to the Shao Long Academy. Be respectful; Shifu Lefler can spin kick your head sideways before you can quote your favorite Van Damme film. Seriously though, you will learn the finest traditional Chinese martial arts techniques combined with contemporary conditioning drills to strengthen your mind and body while you become the ultimate Gongfu warrior. My daughter has been attending this academy for several months and there has been a marked improvement in her self-esteem, confidence, and general fitness. The fortitude required to teach others is a skill not many possess, and the progress I've seen in Shifu Lefler's students is a reflection of his devotion to his craft. For Shifu Lefler, this isn't just a hobby - it's a way of life.

It was a long-shot but we figured why not try something different for her. The instructor/owner, Itzak, is super nice and kept his students engaged, disciplined but still having fun. The practices are traditional and it's not hard for my child to follow. The pricing is fair and still within our budget. Along with virtual lessons, he actually has a Tai Chi app as well and I actually feel a little sore after trying it. Great options during this hard year especially. The studio is really clean and organized. The owner follows the guidelines for Covid-precautions and safety measures so peace of mind is there. The mats don't smell which is what I usually always smell when I go into other studios/gyms. That's a plus for me. The location was not hard to find, convenient and I didn't have any issues with parking. Only con is that I like to go eat the seafood place next door.

Monk Wise will charge you maintenance fees on top of your tuition. If you cancel your membership, you still have to pay two months' worth of tuition (supposedly this has been changed to 30 days, but in all our negotiations to end our contract, we never once saw a new contract or signed it, even when we were still regularly attending the school). You're charged to advance, you're charged to participate in extra activities, you're charged to put your account on hold . . . you're even charged to attend a potluck. Monk Wise works off the idea that you pay a fee and then attend as many classes as you want. But if you have a schedule that makes it hard to come in often, or, say, children, this model is not ideal. We paid extra to receive private lessons, only to never receive private lessons or a contract for the adjusted payment. But, of course, we got $118 taken out of our account regularly, every *two weeks*. Attempts to discuss payments with the owner were either met with very salesman-like runarounds or complete silence. (We were even charged for two weeks' of lessons when the studio was closed for Christmas break, which is illegal. Like I said, you will be nickeled and dimed to the point of insanity.) If you're interested in martial arts, there are much better places to enroll. Learn from my mistakes and go somewhere else. *Their website says they have no contracts. This is a lie.

I…read morehave been training for my first marathon for the last 8 months and was excited when I finally reached my goal speed a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, throughout the training, I have experienced increased hip pain. Then, last week, I injured my Achilles heel while rushing somewhere in street shoes. I was emotionally gutted since I only have a month left until marathon day. I was also disappointed that my pain was preventing me from skiing on our long planned ski trip to Park City. As soon as we arrived in Park City, I did a Yelp search and chose Dr. Lester based on the positive reviews from other Achilles injury sufferers. Whereas no other Dr. has been able to pinpoint my hip pain, Dr. Lester was immediately able to hone into my troubled spots and target them with acupressure. He then continued with acupuncture and I began to feel all the troubled areas begin to release. In addition to spending an extensive amount of time treating me, Dr. Lester also made sure to listen, counsel and explain his methods to me. He even recommended precise dosages of over the counter supplements that could help my conditions, without trying to sell me anything. Dr Lester is the most intuitive, caring Dr. I have ever visited and for the first time in a long time, my hip pain has subsided and my Achilles discomfort is no longer noticeable. I look forward to hitting the slopes this week and returning to my marathon training. If you have any kind of pain, I strongly urge you to make an appointment with Dr. Lester. He is the best acupuncturist I have ever been to (and I lived in China for 4 years). The money I spent on the appointment was well worth it.

My treatments and their results so far: - Acupuncture: I have had issues with my Achilles and the calf muscle above it for no less than a decade. These were old running injuries that just wouldn't seem to heal. Dr Lester suggested trying acupuncture as a possibly therapy or remedy- the very next day I was running on a treadmill and PAIN FREE. It has been a week now, and I'm still pain free and have run the last few days in a row! Dr Lester is a miracle worker. - Herbs: I was very sick to my stomach over the holiday, and Dr Lester made an herbal remedy that I took with water as a hot tea, immediately taking away my nausea. I'd recommend this to anyone with nausea issues, whether chronic or not. - Massage therapy: I have a relatively high stress job, and came to Dr Lester while sick over the holiday, not only to get the herbal remedy, but also to get one of his very unique massages. I laid on my stomach and he pushed almost like buttons, every single sensitive point on my back, applying just the right pressure for just the right amount of time. I literally felt the stress melting out of my system. He's kind and customizing- I highly recommend Dr Lester for your naturopathic needs!

Accupuncture takes time and repeated visits to work effectively. That said, accupuncture and Chinese medicine can treat and cure certain things that even allopathic medicine can not.

Mr. Abdo, the studio's instructor, teaches both private and group kung-fu and Tai Chi classes throughout the week. Tai Chi is taught on Monday evenings and kung-fu classes are Monday through Thursday in the evenings and Saturday mornings. The studio provides instruction for both kids and adults. Kung-fu is a great workout (both mentally and physically) and the group classes are a lot of fun! Mr. Abdo varies the workout in every class, keeping the class fun and challenging, and we frequently work with kicking and punching pads, kettle bells, medicine balls, and other props. As you progress in the class you learn more strikes (punches and kicks), animal techniques, combinations, etc. Mr. Adbo is a great instructor and does a great job explaining and demonstrating new techniques. The other students I've met during class have all been great to work with and have been very supportive and helpful. One of the best aspects of Shaolin Arts is the community of great people who study here. I recently completed my first rank review and earned my yellow sash! I hope to continue learning kung-fu for many years to come and I've been really happy with the progress I've made so far. Kung-fu is a great martial art and I'm very happy I took the opportunity to try it. If you're looking for a new studio or want to try something different, come by Shaolin Arts and give kung-fu a try.
