Shepherds Pie and well done potato pancakes
    Andy G.

This unassuming truck stop/gas station cafe is quite a gem! One of my favorite items on the menu is the shepherds pie. Also pictured is a side of potato pancakes well done. You can get 2 cakes like I did for seven and change, or you can get it with a side of meat for $9.99. Please be aware that the chicken pot pie preparation is different in that, it is chicken pot pie soup ladled over biscuits. Bits of crust exist within the soup; however, no filling is encased within a crust. It's fine but I prefer the traditional recipe. Also recommended is the taco salad. What's nice about this dish, is that it could almost double as nachos due to the fact that a nice amount of nacho chips are contained within. A handy picture of the salad is featured within the menu giving one an idea of what to expect. Fridays they are open all afternoon and into the evening for fish fry and is the only day they are open past lunch. Please go and support this deserving establishment.

Awesome breakfast! Great service! Biscuits and Gravy were perfect and definitely homemade!

Well....we really wanted to leave a better review but I think the chef lost its taste buds. I…read moredon't like to leave bad reviews based o one meal but what we ate here tonight made it so we will never come back. Everything was way too salty. We Both ordered the smokey molasses seared Pork chop and it should have been labeled as salted Crusted Pork chop. The pork chop itself was very tender. Mine was a little undercooked so my husband traded with me As his was medium done. They both tasted the same however, so salty we could not finish them and did not want to take them home. We both had garlic mashed potatoes. My husband and I had a disagreement if the potatoes were real or powdered . I voted for powdered because of an after taste whereas my husband thought the aftertaste was related to the garlic. Delivered to our table was a small loaf of garlic bread which was fresh and soft but not necessarily tasty. Next up was soup which we ordered differently. I had the French onion. This was Not a baked French onion but a salty beef broth with ample cooked onions. There seemed to be bits of melted cheese in the little cup making me think that at some time There was some French onion soup prepared with the cheese melted on top and what was left got dumped into the soup pot. My husband took the chowder. He took one bite and pushed it away. He said it was Horrible. I was reviewing everything so wanted a second opinion. I took a mouthful and agreed that it did not taste like any clam chowder I had ever eaten before. It was flavorless and bland. Between the two of us we may have eaten one of the 2 pork chops. I even tried to scrape the top of the pork chop off to reduce the salt but it did not work. On the plus we got there around 5 on a Friday evening and were able to get a table right away. Our waitress looked sad and like she was just going through the motions but she was adequate in refilling my husbands soda and getting our meal to us right away. The place filled up after we got there and there was Standing room only. That has to say something about the food or maybe the alcoholic drinks are good.

The chai latte and fruit smoothies are my favorite choice here. The best part about this place is the atmosphere and service. You can either pick to sit outside, inside on couches, a stool or a table. They even have a small closet full of board games! The only cons I found in Wind & Unwind was the schedule, they close early on Saturdays and they don't open on Sundays. Second the fruit in their fruit smoothies don't really taste fresh. DRINKS -- 4 Stars I never had a complaint on any of their coffee beverages. Only their fruit smoothies need improvement. SERVICE -- 5 Stars Everyone is always welcoming, nice and quick to make their drinks. ATMOSPHERE -- 4 Stars This is by far the best place to come, relax and sip your coffee. Great seating, lighting and decor. Just wish they're schedule was more open.
