I saw the sign for Hickory Flat and thought we'd need to keep driving. I was thrilled to see Exxon listed on the last exit sign. The restroom was first on my list and it was very clean. Yay! When I first walked into the truck stop, I noticed there were a lot of people having breakfast or just coffee and hanging out with their retired friends. Assuming this is the only place in town. As always, I walked up and down the few aisles to see if there was anything I couldn't live without. I found my husband staring at the hot food display. So glad he was. They had what appeared to be blueberry biscuits. Just like Bojangles used to have. There are still Bojangles restaurants but not in our area. We bought one for each of us and after the first bite I knew that was a good call. If I'd have bought more, we would have polished off as many as there were. Good grief they were gooooood! So, if you are ever passing through Hickory Flat in the morning hours, stop and pick up a blueberry-honey biscuit. You won't be disappointed.

Inside are small/medium restrooms, hot food offerings, some seating, and the rest is pretty much a typical convenience store. As a plus, they do have a couple of self-checkout registers if the lines for the cashier get too long. For that reason alone, I often stop in vs the competition, particularly if you have a line from the nearby manufacturing facility grabbing breakfast/lunch, etc. It's also conveniently located next to Krystal, Hardee's, and a small shopping center nearby.

The vehicle made it from Albuquerque to Myrtle without a problem - no leaks, no nothing in the way of issues at all. Since this is a right hand drive vehicle, I immediately put it to use delivering mail and within 6 weeks, had put to requisite 3,000 miles on the odometer. Since I used this location previously, I decided to use it again for the first oil change on my Jeep since I owned it. The service was fast and I was out the door within 30 minutes. However, within a few days, there was an issue - oil was leaking from what looked to be the rear main seal. After taking the Jeep to a mechanic, I was informed that it was not the rear main seal as I thought, but the oil filter housing that had cracked. The mechanic then stated that this typically happens when the oil filter is replaced and it is then tightened too much, thus cracking the entire housing. This required a replacement of the oil filter housing, another oil change and a flush and fill of the radiator, costing me $750. When it was brought to the attention of the owner, the owner immediately denied any wrongdoing, stating that there was no way to overtighten the oil filter to crack the housing and thoroughly denied that his employees could have caused this damage. Even went on to say that he had been in business since 1998 and had never had an issue like this ever. I told him that I was not going after him for any money - I understand that mistakes happen - but his flat out refusal to admit any possible culpability for this is what prompted me to write this review. My mechanic states that he's seen this previously and the only way to have this kind of damage is from overtightening the filter. Unfortunately, his employees were the ONLY people to have touched the engine or done any work to it since the vehicle was purchased by me and, coincidently, the one this they do it work on the part that broke. I have not has any other work done on the vehicle engine until his people changed the oil. Because of this, I would not recommend using this location for your oil change needs. There are better places that charge less elsewhere in town.
