Something I didn't know about this park is that it is also an RV park and campground. The playground nearest the large bathroom area is maybe meant for a younger kids, and there's also a large grassy soccer field. If you go beyond the first playground area, there's a splash pad! This was a lifesaver on a hot day. Keep walking, and you'll get to a larger area where there's a zip line and larger playground for bigger kids to play. I wish we had discovered this playground first, as we spent more than half of our time on the small playground.

But a friend who likes to walk there too, offered me the option to do it today. She used to live nearby Viele Lake but now has moved to my neighborhood. We headed out mid-morning and though it was a cool, slightly wet start, it warmed up quite quickly when the sun was fully out. My friend had heard that there was a heron in residence this year and we found it on our first turn. We also saw a tree near the bridge that had snagged some debris from fishing supplies. I was unaware that fishing is allowed there. The view of the Flatirons backdrop of Boulder is fully complete from this lakeside path. It's especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset. Unfortunately, like most summers, there were a lot of droppings from the resident geese. Beware, even on paved surfaces.

The owners Lynn and Mike are incredibly easy to work with. All the staff are well trained and very attentive to the children and help stretch their comfort zone in fun challenging activities. This year camp was cancelled due to COVID-19. As an alternative, CMR has been hosting single family activities to ensure social distancing. We took the opportunity to do this and we had a blast. As parents, we really didn't know much about how the kids spent their time on the ranch. Spending time up there made me feel like a kid again. The staff made the whole experience fun and easy. The measures that CMR are taking to reduce exposure to the virus are as good as any place I've seen. They sanitize every piece of equipment and touch point between each family and keep the flushies sparkling. Oh and hundreds of acres to spread out the guests. After several months of quarantine and more to come, CMR's 2020 family program was much needed. It's also worth mentioning that various special needs grants and scholarships will cover the family program.

The huge grass area is ideal for laying down a blanket and enjoying the view. The only thing to keep in mind is that the wind picks up at times. It is good for flying kites though. After lunch, we took a stroll around the lake. We really liked the tranquility this park had offered and look forward to exploring the trails more.

On a clear day you can see Denver in the distance! It is a state park so if you buy the park pass for state parks your entry is covered. Otherwise vehicles are $10 entry and walking in will be $4 per person. The state pass is worth $29 and you can buy it when you purchase a yearly tag for your vehicle. This park has lots of parking but on weekends you need a timed entry during the busy season. There is a visitor centre, bathrooms, and a water bottle refill station. Picnic tables so bring your basket and snacks!
