I took my dog here to get spayed after I saw positive reviews on their FB page and a few good reviews from friends. Two doctors perform the surgeries, Dr. Connie and Dr. Brown. Dr. Brown did my dog's surgery that day. I regret it very much. My dog was treated like a cow, hanged and had her back legs grabbed so she fell in the process while being tranquillized. They were very rough about it and made no introduction to me or my dog before the process, which made her fear way worse. The vet had the nerve to say she needed "obedience training" when it was all fear based behavior in response to a very awful process they have. I believe it's this way because they have gotten so routine to get as many surgeries done as possible that they have forgotten that they are living, breathing creatures that deserve respect. The aftermath has been the worst part. Not even a few days after surgery, (cone on and minimal activity level), the incision started to drip blood. Then, it started to form blood clots. Fast forward to less than five days later and my dog has a hole larger than the size of a pencil eraser where the sutures did not hold and it is infected. To make it even worse, they have gone back to the Stone Age and use metal sutures that irritate an animal greatly and hinder healing. Their excuse to use these was it keeps the suture intact since dogs were coming back with the area chewed. After further research and speaking with my vet, this is not true. A good job done by the vet eliminates irritation and the dog or cat will not be in that level of discomfort like this causes. The metal simply irritates the area more. After seeing another spay job done by Dr. Connie, the dog's skin could be pulled apart and the incision was jagged and long MONTHS after the surgery was done. The staff employee admitted that Dr Connie's surgery results "always look that bad" and seemed concerned but not enough to change anything. My vet was also worried about the fact that this spay incision had not healed up after that much time had passed. My regular vet was appalled at the job done and suggested I report them to the Texas Veterinary Medical Boards. I will be doing so. My pictures tell the story better than words can. Please do not make the same mistake I did. I am still beating myself up for it. I think many people have great intentions and I don't think they are bad people, but there are 100 times better places to take your dog or cat to get fixed. They have a lot to work on to get with the times in terms of medical care and behavior knowledge of dogs. You get what you pay for here, unfortunately. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I brought my 1 year old Maine Coon mix and 10 month old Staffordshire Terrier in to be spayed. I thought, "a humane society, perfect! They do spays and neuters all the time, and they care for animals!" Plus, at a really low price. Believe me, you get what you pay for!!! First of all, when I walked in I said my animals names, Dixie and Duchess, and they had them written down as "Jessie and Gypsy". Dixie I could understand the mix up in similarities, but Duchess??? And then, they immediately took them both from me, before I could say or do anything to comfort my pup, who is already scared of everything, in a strange place. Second of all, I was told to pick them up the next day, anytime after 5 pm. Now, I realize I should have looked at the sign to see their hours and that is my fault. However, I was irritated to find out that they do close at 5:30 pm, when I thought my boyfriend would be able to pick them up when he got off work, since I had to go to work. This is simply communication, don't say "anytime after 5" when you close at 5:30. Not to mention, when we didn't get there in time for pick up, I never so much as recieved a phone call for my pets who have now been dropped off abruptly in a strange place, went to sleep, and woke up hurting. And finally, when we went in the next morning to get my two babies, my cat was in her carrier on a blanket SOAKED in her own urine. After all of this, I did some searching and called another local vet, and came to find out that this is regular treatment of spays and neuters at this humane society. Two weeks later, I took them to this local vet, and both of their stitches were completely botched, (not of anyone else's fault but the person who did the surgeries). My dog's incision site is infected (this could be for a number of reasons, as dogs will be dogs, but I would also like to highlight that I was never informed on proper aftercare so I frantically googled for about two days straight to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong). I realize that this review is long, but if my mistakes help ANYONE to change their minds about bringing their animals to the Wilbarger humane society for animal care, then I am happy!! read more

My dog and cat were both Rescued and spayed through the Wilbarger Humane Society and are now 9 and 11 years old. I'm very happy with the service that the shelter provides and greatful our community has a low cost spay/neuter program. read more

I will be forever grateful to the kind and devoted staff of the Wilbarger Humane Society. If not for their efforts, I would not be blessed with the most wonderful canine companion anyone could hope to have. They saved him from wandering the streets as a stray and provided him a safe place to be cared for. They treated him for parvo and saved his life. They took care of him for three months until I was lucky enough to come across his adoption page and apply to adopt him. The staff was totally supportive of a somewhat complicated adoption situation and helped to make it happen. I will never be able to thank them enough for saving the life of this amazing dog who brings me joy every single day. Please support these dedicated folks in any way that you can. They do so much for abandoned animals -- keeping them safe until they find loving new homes. read more

We picked up Jax, Blutick Coonhound, on Monday, 4/23/2018. We drove from Albuquerque. The staff, especially Susie, were very helpful and supportive. I think the Wilbarger shelter is nicer than my local shelter, and it was a pleasure to see such a nice, clean place and a friendly staff after a long trip. They had Jax ready to go, the paperwork filled out, and his shot record ready for me. They took the time for us to see that Jax in a pen with another dog, and the two got along well. Jax also did will with children. Jax didn't want to leave home, because Wilbarger Humane Society is such a nice place. Jax is settling in here, and he's getting along well with the old Treeing Walker diva. They were sleeping together this morning. read more

Zoey was adopted from the humane society 4 years ago. If you're thinking about adopting Wilbarger Humane Society is the best place!! The staff went above and beyond to make the process go smoothly. I'm tired of seeing these incision photos (meant to defame our charity) on the Wilbarger Humane Society site when I know the truth. The truth is: Ms. N. did write a letter to the State Board of Veterinary Examiners, and the State Board completely exonerated Dr. Brown in May of 2016. For the Veterinary Board's review, I enlarged these very same photos (taken by Ms. N.) to an 8x10 size and submitted them to the Veterinary Board to prove that Ms. N.'s poor after-care (shown by the blades of grass on the incision site) resulted in the opening of the incision. After-care instructions are given to the owner of each spay and neuter patient. Ms. N's letter to the State Veterinary Board was full of completely false charges. Dr. Brown wrote a rebuttal for every false charge, and the Board cleared him of every charge. Dr Brown preferred metal stitches because they hold up better (with proper after-care) in rural areas than soluble stitches (which Dr. Brown used in his city practice). Dr. Brown, Dr Robinson, and the Wilbarger Humane Society advise that Wilbarger County pet owners visit their personal veterinarians twice a year. Dr. Conley, Dr. Fox and Dr. Lacey, who practice in Vernon, are highly recommended for their veterinary care. Kay N Brown read more
