The Wiggly Bridge is a narrow pedestrian suspension bridge that stands in York, Maine. Located just off of Maine State Route 103 (Lilac Lane), the 75-foot-long bridge crosses the tidal flow from Barrel Mill Pond to the York River. Built in the 1930s, it is believed to be the smallest suspension bridge in the United States. Cute little bridge that you can definitely jump on! Having been to other suspension bridges, I can say this one is just as wiggly as Lynn Canyon in Canada. It's small obviously, not the views in the area are commanding. My only complaint is that parking is really tricky. We had to park at a store and walk a bit (not awful but not ideal). Anyway, would hike this trail again! It was relatively flat, shaded, and not crowded. read more

"Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle in your boots and shoes Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, you got nothing to lose" (Bob Dylan) Ever since I stumbled upon a Yelp listing for something as awesomely named as "The Wiggly Bridge", I knew I just had to make a visit happen one of these days. Pulling off that visit was difficult, because following the address we had put us in the middle of a residential neighborhood with "Permit Parking Only" signs galore. We parked off to the side, held our breath, crossed our fingers, and looked for the Bridge, which was nowhere to be found. Luckily, a gent was walking near us, and he directed us to a long circuitous walk down an elevated path, under the road, and across a marine walkway. As we walked and walked and walked, we finally caught sight of the big green spires that told us we had found the elusive Wiggly Bridge. The Wiggly Bridge is just 75 feet long, and I've seen a few sources claim it's the smallest suspension bridge in the world. And yes, we can confirm that when you walk across it, it most definitely bounces, wiggles, and flexes under your feet. I can also confirm that on a rainy day (like today), the Bridge should really be named "The Wiggly and Slippery Bridge", because it was slippery as hell. read more

A fun quick stop on my way north from Connecticut to Maine. GPS directed me to a parking lot for fishermen and I could not find the path to the Wiggly Bridge so I parked along the street in a 15 minute space. Many spaces require a permit. From the street I could see the sign for the bridge and path. It was a flat and easy walk under the street bridge. There were some local teens enjoying the day and fishing with a string The bridge really does wiggle! From the bridge you can continue on and explore Steedman Woods I am glad I visited The Wiggly Bridge. If you are driving through southern Maine it is a nice detour off I-95 and there are so many other places to visit in the Wells, Kennebec & Ogunquit areas read more

Wiggly bridge!!! One of the highlights of my trip! It is so fun walking across it and literally wiggling over the water. After you have fun wiggling for a while, I suggest hiking through Steedman woods. It's a short loop that doesn't take longer than 15 minutes! Parking is hard!!!! I recommend parking on the street across from the York Harbor Inn (2 hour free parking). Once you park here, you can use the Fisherman's Walk to get there. The Fisherman's walk actually brings you right to wiggly bridge. Its about a 15 minutes to walk however I think it's worth it so you don't risk getting a ticket in one of the permit only parking spaces! It's also very scenic. To start, you cross the grass from Harbor Beach, walk by the docks, and then you'll see the first sign. read more

What a fun spot! The bridge is cute, the little trail around the island is a pleasant walk. It's clean & taken care of. We observed some wildlife & took in some good views. There were some locals swimming right off near the bridge so I guess you can do that too! Parking was easy late on a Sunday, but I can see how it would be challenging any other time. Came across the Wiggly Bridge via numerous local guides and a recommendation from our AirBnB host. Firstly, this attraction/small park is not somewhere that will take you a lot of time to visit. There is an adjacent wood with a walking trail, but I think we made the loop in maybe 15-20mins and perhaps 30 mins all-in crossing the bridge and taking a leisurely pace to/from the road. That being said, the little bridge itself is pretty cool and certainly scenic. It crosses a small stream and the surrounding marshland and rocky shore were quite tranquil. We went on a holiday weekend, so there were other people, but everyone was very respectful of not hogging the bridge and making space on the trails, etc. Parking is a little hairy, as it's along the roadside and most likely, one has to know how to parallel park. We got a spot without an issue, but I could this getting busy and hard to find a spot when the weather is nice. read more

There is parking across the street, but there was a sign stating permit parking only, but we decided to take a chance and so did several others. The bridge does not wiggle as much as I anticipated, but is very nice. There are trails at the end for a short walk. Nice attraction, but don't go out of your way to see it. read more

Totally randomly stopped here! We are glad we did. A very nice area to walk around to take a break from the car. There's a fisherman's walk and then a walkway on the other side to the bridge. The scenery was very pretty and yes, the bridge is wiggly! I think older kids would love it and younger kids would be a little nervous! We've been coming to the Wiggly Bridge since my now-30ish sons were 5 and 11. We'd pull into the parallel parking spots, wiggle out of our seats and squeeze out the doors, then try looking to the left and right simultaneously, yelling "GO!" while racing across the busy road holding hands for dear life. There was a bit of a blind spot, you see, going from the top of the road down to where a family might be hauling their children across the lane, throwing them over the curb just in the nick of time. Phew! The stress of the crossing was quickly replaced by the excitement of walking down the gravel path--water on both sides--to the Wiggly Bridge itself. Oh, how my boys loved to watch the turbulent water as the tide went out (or came back in) under the bridge. The rush of water was so fast, so strong. The boys would out-loud imagine falling in and being swept out to sea, never to be seen again. (Fat chance of falling in on this suspension bridge with a hyper-vigilant mom anticipating your every move). They didn't even need to jump and jiggle since the bridge bounces when you simply walk over it. Oh, the drama! The fall air filled with squeals of half-fright, peels of laughter, and the squeak squeak squeak of all the footsteps over the bridge. They loved it. And we'd have to stop there in every season. Fast forward to recent years, gathering around a campfire and recalling Wiggly Bridge trips of the past. Remember the year we went at night with our lanterns? Remember the year we saw a guy accidentally drop his brand new cellphone in the rushing brackish water? What about the year of the king tide? Ah. Yes, we've got loads of memories about this little spot. And these days? There's even more to love. The parking area has some designated spots for visitors. The spots feel roomier, like you won't get clipped by an SUV from South Carolina while exiting your car. There's a fabulous walkway from the parking side of the road down to the water, under the bridge, and up to the Wiggly Bridge path. No need to throw caution to the wind and toss your kids across the road. And what kid wouldn't want to go under the big bridge? It's so cool. Especially when a boat is coming in or going out. Beautiful spot to walk! There tends to be quite a few people here and almost people don't like to wait for others to cross the bridge. So if you are scared of it, I would recommend standing back and letting others go first. The bridge is definitely wiggly! There's a short walk to the bridge and then there is a walking trail through the woods past the bridge, it's not very long, takes about 10-15 minutes depending on your speed. Can be very muddy after rain! You can drive to the harbor after and walk the beach as well, it's a short drive. The only downside I have is that the trail isn't maintained very well so just watch your step! read more

It's hard to imagine that "world's smallest suspension bridge" might bring you so much joy, but for me Wiggly Bridge has become a destination that the thought of always makes me smile. Yes, it is a VERY tiny suspension (not sure if it's actually the world's smallest) bridge that crosses over the tidal flow that connects Barrell Mill Pond to the York River. And, yes, it wiggles a bit when you walk (especially if there are many people on it or you're just heavy-footed). It's maybe 20 or 25 feet long, and will take you all of seconds to cross, but it's just.so.Maine. (I like to pretend there are gnomes or something in this area... to them, this is a HUGE bridge, so everything's perspective, eh?) Parking to get to Wiggly Bridge is difficult to say the least. There's parking on the side of the road on Route 103, but the signs say no parking unless you have a York Harbor permit. We visited on a Sunday in November, and risked parking there (other cars from out of state were parked there, too). We walked across the street and were greeted by a long, curved stone walkway/causeway. There's a little a sign about Barrell Mill Pond Dam which is totally worth reading before walking across to the suspension bridge. Definitely worth seeing (at least once). I think it's one of those places you really have to a) be intentionally/relentlessly searching for or b) accidentally stumble upon to find. And once you've seen it, you'll be in a select group of Wiggly Bridge cool-kids-in-the-know! read more

The Town of York does NOT want visitors at this site as they ticketed about 10 cars parked in clearly marked spots. There are three poorly spaced signs saying "Permit Parking Only". I'm not sure what permit is required, but the parking in-front of this highly trafficked tourist destination will get you a $50 ticket from the Town of York. There is NO public parking, so visit at your own risk. P.S. The bridge and trail were beautiful, but the fun quickly ended when we found the ticket on our car. read more

What an incredible find!! We stumbled upon this gem while traveling north up the coast of Maine. We thought it looked like a blast so we hopped out of the car and wandered around....that's part of the beauty and freedom of a road-trip right there folks. Way cool! The kiddos LOVED running across the path over the water and the suspension or "wiggly" bridge was just too fun to bounce around on! On the other side of the bridge is two paths for hiking! We saw people on SUP, kayaks, canoes, fishing, boating and swimming! It seems you could really make a lovely afternoon of this place! Being a picnic and just hang out! The waters when you first enter before you hit the actual wiggly bridge are fairly shallow, but the waters under the bridge were very rough however. We saw a man flip his kayak in the rushing tides so be careful! Parking seemed a bit scarce and there was definitely someone patrolling the area so make sure you don't park illegally. We came later in the day so maybe it's a bit easier early on! Worth a stop! read more

We then walked fisherman's wharf which was very pretty since it is right on the water. There's a sign at the beginning of it but nothing indicating where the end is. read more

Love this little suspension footbridge and the fun and fitting name. I found out about it after years of visiting the southern Maine area (and completely drove right past it...there are no signs, other than the one on 1A. I have loved visiting the bridge at all times of day (with different tides on both sides of York Harbor), and on a more recent trip, visited twice with my nieces and once at sunset just before it got completely dark. My nieces enjoyed running down the dirt path and crossing and re-crossing the bridge. There is a wide-ish dirt path lined with rocks leading the way to the bridge...when the tide is high, the path is surrounded by water. When I have more time, I will have to explore Stedman Woods loop hiking trail that is on the other side of the Wiggly Bridge. Knocked off one star for lack of parking- there's only a few roadside spots (facing the other direction if you are coming from 1A) and it's still not clear if a permit is required to park in the spots. Luckily, I'm not usually there for long and no one ticketed my car. read more

This is one of those places you expect to find on Roadside America. It's a cute spot with a nice view of the water ways of York harbor. There is very little parking here - only about 4 spaces for cars without permits and another 4 for ones with permits. The bridge actually wiggles, which definitely made me smile. We were looking for Wiggley Bridge, to walk the path but it was getting past dusk. Maybe tomorrow. We used The Maps app on an iPhone, but the location showed up almost at the intersection of 1A and 103. We turned onto 103 and Maps showed it on the left, just after the turn. In fact, it's a little farther down, on the right. Before you cross the bridge (on 103) look to your right. There is what looks like a dam and Wiggly Bridge is the suspension bridge at the far end of the dam. The dam is actually a part of the walking path. read more
