Brief history: In the winter of 1886-1887, large sea-washed stones were hoisted and hauled to the church site. Work began on building the church on 27 May 1887. Consecrated by the Bishop of Maine (Rt. Rev. Henry Adams Neely) on 24 August 1892 and since that time it has been in continuous use. Today, St Ann's is one of 18 historic summer chapels in the Diocese of Maine. We got lucky! Since this is a summer chapel the opening dates are limited. In general, they open in the middle of June and close the last Sunday in September. The hours to visit the property are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to sunset. However, the chapel (building) itself closes at 5:30 p.m. The grounds and outdoor chapel are open until sunset. You may also visit the chapel on Sunday's (if not attending worship) starting at 11:30. Please keep in mind there are days the chapel may not be open to the public due to ceremonies and/or memorial services. Shirts and shoes are required. And they ask to refrain from smoking on the property. Picnicking is welcome, but please take your trash with you. Leashed pets are welcome and please take any deposits from your pet with you. There is a small parking lot on the property. They do warn against parking your car and taking a walk because they do lock the gates. End Note: Yes, this is down the road from Walker's Point...you know, the Bush Compound. And yes, this is where the Bush family attend services when in town.
