Check all your statements and ask about the service charges. It is petty theft at its finest. One 8 dollar drink order had a 1 dollar service charge while my $50 drink order had a $10 service charge. The Bermuda grass was in great shape when I was there. They had just punched several tee boxes so hopefully they bounce back quickly. The greens could be a little more dramatic to really add a challenge, but I would also play here all the time if I had access to it. I got paired with a high school golfer who was with his dad practicing for the season. He made golf look easy. The weather was perfect as well. Between 68 to 70. A parking lot filled with every car I want. Mercedes SL (insert number) Acura (Insert model) Lexus IS blah blah And there was a bunch of Infinitis... which they can keep. I don't like Infinitis. I think the shape of them is odd and... ugly. Anyways, I was there for a fundraiser so I set up my table and began to do my thing... after my thing was done, I got a little of the County Club treatment as I sat down to lunch in the club room and dined on some of the club kwizine. That's the fancy french way to spell it right? A fresh salad lightly dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. Full of ridiculously fresh lettuces. It was all the salad truly needed ( and had) cause the lettuce was so freakin' good. I could definitely detect some little gem and butter lettuce in the mix. There was a choice of hamburger or chicken. The chicken was in a light broth of old bay, bbq sauce, and something else which is escaping me. The chef behind the table cut the little knobby bone ( the bone that connects the breast with the wing) off of the breast after I picked it from the chafing dish... begging the question... why did they leave that on? But I think it oddly made some sort of weird difference. Well, whatever they did, the chicken was super tender and flavorful and the buns they had were crucially delicious. It was a spectacularly simple and delicious meal. I loved it. Everyone at the country club was extremely pleasant and attentive. Servers made sure that I had enough to drink and cleared my plate away quickly. The worst part of my experience was leaving the country club, as I know that I am very unlikely to back anytime soon. Fairways and greens are in good shape. Bunkers no so much. I am a beginner golfer so no complains there. I hate hitting off bunkers anyways. Some of the holes can be pretty hard for high handicappers. Narrow fairways and lots of tees. You have to keep em straight. Some of the holes are so beautiful. Especially hole 9 and hole 18. They have some water hazard as well. They also have a driving range. I think they can do better by reducing tee time prices to attract more customers. Piankatank is a better course for the same price. By lowering price they may get more people to play. That's the only reason I am giving them 4 stars. Food is great here. They have a decent restroom with shower.

June 19, 2025…read more Chesapeake Hills Golf Course - Best Shape I've Ever Seen It In It's been just over a year since my last review, and I've only played once since the new clubhouse was completed -- but wow, what a difference that upgrade has made! The clubhouse looks great inside and has a lot more merchandise than I've ever seen there before. I haven't tried the food yet, but I've heard it's pretty good. Today, I played with my son -- our first round together in a few years -- and it was a very reasonable $90 for both of us (with cart for 18 holes). I'd heard from others that the course was starting to look really nice again, and they weren't wrong. As we pulled up to the first tee, I noticed the putting green on the left was in the best condition I've ever seen it. I told my son right away -- you can tell they've really been working hard to turn this place around. The tee boxes and fairways were well-cut and in excellent shape. After a few holes, I started to realize just how much improvement has been made. There used to be a lot of bare dirt or gravel patches throughout the course, but now most of those areas have healthy grass growing. The greens were smooth and well-trimmed, and putts rolled nicely. I especially noticed the 2nd hole (par 3 over water) -- the area just past the water used to be rough and patchy, but now it's fully filled in with lush grass.

Fortunately, things have changed for the better, but not everything. So lets start with the things that still need to be addressed. First one is the people working there. They seem pretty unhappy with life and it shows. Often they seen disgruntled and you're annoying them to ask for anything. The next one, is hole 15. That hole just needs to be revamped, it sucks. Finally, the driving range is garbage. The grass is often missing and its tough to often find some actual grass to hit off of. I would recommend that they put hitting mats up top and close the grass part to rejuvenate them on a regular basis. also, it doesn't help when they tell you not to hit drivers. I mean come on, that's the most fun part of hitting the range, blasting bombs with the driver. Now, lets talk about what's gotten better. right off the bat, you'll notice the new clubhouse. its nice and has a nice external relaxation area. Well done Calvert County. To go along with the clubhouse is the repaving of the parking lot, which may not seem like much, but it really makes the whole picture look that much better. The conditions at the course have gotten much better. Are there still some areas for improvement, yes (talking to you guy that dumps the clippings around the greens or in areas that are in plain sight) but for the most part they are good. the greens were in great shape, the fairways were good, and the roughs were not just all weeds as I experienced previously. The biggest thing that surprised me were the on course personnel. For the first time ever, i actually say a refreshments cart driving around. I have been going here since the 1980's when I used to work there, and in all that time, I NEVER saw a refreshments cart. Also, there was a starter AND a marshal driving around, which I have never seen as well. So well done CHGC, in upping your game. Please try and keep it going!!
