Coming back in 2020 for the first time, we were in and out in about 15-20 minutes. Pretty quick for a dentist visit, but I thought their procedures might be shorter due to COVID. Well, a year later along with vaccines, my last appointment was still only about 15 minutes. My teeth felt dirty just a month later. Due to a change in insurance, we were able to make appointments at another dental provider who was shocked at the state of our teeth. My husband has to go in for deep cleanings, which aren't covered by insurance. Chicago Avenue Smiles cost us hundreds of dollars, not to mention the panic of realizing our dental health has been neglected for years. I hope they change things, but I wouldn't trust them for further visits.

My insurance is listed as accepted on Avenue Dentals website, and when I showed up to my 2 basic cleaning appointments last year they ran my insurance and said I was in network. Per my dental plan, I should owe nothing for basic cleanings and was allowed 3 per year. Almost a year later, I'm now learning that they are NOT in fact in network and I'm being charged $206 because my insurance didn't cover everything. I feel it is unfair that I was told incorrect information and now am stuck with this bill when I should've been paying $0. Additionally, there were some confusing differences between billing codes and costs when charging my dental insurance compared to what was listed on my ledger. It was very difficult to get in contact with the billing department to help explain things, however after several calls across several weeks I was finally able to speak with Sylvia who was able to help at least a little. Overall, the whole experience felt disorganized and scammy and I unfortunately would not recommend coming here for dental care. But if you do, do your research ahead of time and make sure you know the ins and outs of dental billing codes and insurance coverage so you don't have unexpected costs.

I went in here without high expectations. And they blew me away! I am so happy! Everyone should come here! My experience was great from the moment I walked in the door. I was greeted warmly by Dr. Kim, which made me felt welcome, which I haven't felt at a dentist's office in a long time. My hygienist, Ina, was the most gentle EVER when she flossed my teeth. Not once did the floss pop through and hit my gums, even with my tightest teeth! And she was friendly, warm, and engaging. When Dr. Kim visited with me, she walked me through what she was seeing - things that needed immediate attention and long term things to keep an eye on - none of which surprised me. She showed me what she was seeing in the X-rays, but also with pictures of my teeth. Seeing pictures of my teeth was so great in being able to see what was happening in my teeth. She explained everything to me in a way that wasn't condescending, as some dentists have a tendency to do. She gave me plenty of time to ask questions. She walked me to the front herself to go over my treatment plan and she was the last person I spoke with. I left feeling so happy! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

It felt like a family-run place with the polish and attention to detail of a high-end downtown dental office. The space itself is stunning, and the view is incredible. The chairs face the lake, which made the whole experience feel surprisingly calm and relaxing. As a new patient, I was even greeted with a gift box at the door, which was such a thoughtful touch and something I have honestly never experienced before. Beyond all of that, the actual dental care was excellent. They have so much turnover with hygienists that your appts get changed and cancelled multiple times. Last year in June they cancelled my appt 2 days before and rescheduled me for January 2025. When I went to the January appt, they said "oh sorry, all we had was an early AM appt and the dentist isn't in yet so this is just a hygienist appt." Was never told that prior. Had I known, I wouldn't have gone because I needed to see the dentist. In January 2025 I tried to schedule my next appt in 6 months and they said "all we have available is in December." Fine. Scheduled that for today. 1 hour prior to my appointment, Valerie, calls me from the front desk asking for my insurance information (it has been the same since July 2024). She says she can't find anything. I said well then I will have to look and will bring with the information to my appointment. She cuts me off, says "well there's an insurance fee so we have to know now." I said, "like I said, my insurance has been the same Delta Dental since 2024. If you're telling me it's wrong then I need to look into it and will get back to you." I proceed to spend 30 min on the phone with Delta Dental for them to assure me that my insurance is indeed the same it has been since 2024. At this point, I will no longer make my scheduled appt on time so I cancel the appt and will happily find a new dentist. Edit: After calling to cancel my appointment, I told them not to worry about rescheduling as this office was no longer working with me. Valerie proceeded to follow-up via email despite me cutting ties with the office. To whomever is in charge of this office-- please offer professionalism training to your front desk staff (especially Valerie).

I came in for a routine cleaning after skipping the dentist for 2 years. I was checked in quickly and was in the chair in a matter of minutes (thanks to ZocDoc, which pulled all my insurance info so I didn't have to). My cleaning was extremely thorough, with Dr. Coakley walking me through any spots she thought might be areas of concern. I did end up with one cavity (which I had suspected after 10+ years of no decay) which I had filled a few days later. The original cleaning took about an hour and the filling took around 40 minutes. I am one of those people who always incurs the rare side effect of any procedure. I had been experiencing some intense stiffness and soreness in my jaw where I had the numbing agent injected for my filling. I called the office and left a message,and not an hour later Dr. Coakley called me to see how I was and to recommend a course of treatment, and follow up if necessary Dr. Coakley is extremely professional, curteous and has excellent chair-side manner. I would recommend her to anyone.
