Had me waiting at the front for 25 minutes for an appointment that didn't even exist. If the…read morereceptionist actually focused on the calls rather than conversation with costudents they would have known I was in for a full set, and not a haircut.

I went in to their salon for a trim, and I'll summarize by saying: You get what you pay for, and…read moreplan for your appointment to take twice as long as you expect. I went in for a trim to my, what I thought was a, simple haircut: a chin-length straight line bob. I didn't know any of the students, so I just set my appointment to be with anyone, for a women's haircut and style. When I arrived, they paired me with this very nice young man who admitted to me (mid-cut) that he was going to school there for barbery and he didn't really know how to do women's cuts (so WHY did they give him my appointment?!). I told him what I wanted, and said I wanted some "hidden layers so my hair curves in around my head" and he let me know that the technique is called "beveling." Great! Beveling, do that. And then I told him I wanted it to come to the bottom of my chin, and go straight around, level (what they call a straight-line). He reviewed the haircut with an instructor and the two of them agreed that they'd be taking off 2 inches, which sounded about right to me. So he did the haircut/trim, which took an hour and a half (yikes, thank goodness I didn't get in trouble at work for taking such a long lunch). I've seen other reviews talk about services here taking a very long time, which makes sense - they're students. So keep that in mind if you book here: it's going to take twice as long as a pro would. At the end, he couldn't figure out why the two sides of my hair, at the front, weren't looking to be the same length. So an instructor came over to help. She was definitely nice and helpful with him, but she never once acknowledged my existence and left my hair sitting in my face and eyes while she talked to him. I finally maneuvered my hand out from under the cape and swiped my hair out of my eye. While I sat there, I just kept thinking, "geez, I feel like a mannequin." Then instructor let the student know that he had cut the front of my hair higher than the back on one side, and so he needed to make the other side match. That made sense, but I didn't realize he had cut it an inch shorter in the front than the back. (I had wondered why he wanted to do the entire haircut with my head tipped forward/down, but I figured, hey, he's the one being trained how to do this, and I have no idea!) The instructor also told the student that "zero degree" haircuts were some of the most difficult to do, and now he knew why. So, he made the other side match. And then he did the "style" with the hair drier. I have straight hair, so when I've gone to professional salons in the past, they've used a brush to straighten and shape my hair while drying it. Instead, the student crimped my hair with his hands while drying, like if it were curly hair. I don't know if he didn't have any brushes to use, but at the end, my hair was curling in at the bottoms in some areas, and out in others. It was a bit of a mess, and other than my hair now being dry, I'm not sure what the point of the "style" was. When I washed my hair next, and went to dry and style it myself, it became apparent to me just how weird the bottom line of my haircut looks. It's noticeably longer in the back than the front, and I can't tell that any beveling was done, because it seems so much thicker in the back than on the sides. Also, the side that he first screwed up on is not straight. It kind of curves up in a bit of an S shape, while the side he corrected to match is actually straight. Somehow, the cut reminds me of something Ringo Starr wore in the 60s, just slightly longer. I decided this looks goofy enough that I don't want to wait for it to grow out, and I've scheduled an appointment with a professional salon to fix it. I thought I'd save $40 for what seemed like a simple cut/trim, but now I'm spending an extra $10 when I could have just gone to the pros in the first place. Lesson learned.

I've been seeing Nancy for a couple of months now. Prior to this, I tried online training and…read morevideos. It took me a while to decide that in person voice lessons might help. However, once I got in there my doubts were completely over. She has taught me techniques that I really thought only belonged to people with a natural ability to sing. I've found they're techniques that can be used in any type of singing and most importantly they can be learned. What attracted me to Nancy's classes originally was her classical training and performance singing background. Her prices were competitive even when the comparison was with other peoples' online prices. She was the only one that responded when it came to my intake forms because 1. I didn't know if I wanted to take more than one lesson. 2. I only wanted to do half hour lessons. 3. I am somewhat introverted. I've stuck with Nancy because I've learned something each time I go to class. I'm able to sing notes that I thought were not possible for me. The resonance in my sound has become wonderfully colorful. She teaches out of her own home studio. It is a comfortable environment where we can sing and practice. She gives us the tools, encouragement, correction and confidence that we need from our teachers to thrive. This is the teacher you've been looking for. Our daughter loves to sing and sings at home while doing tasks and farm work. The spontaneous singing quality improved dramatically after a few initial lessons. The development of vocal techniques, articulation of the sung lyric and fidelity to the musical score has continued as the lessons have advanced. We highly recommend Ms. Nancy Klingman as an outstanding vocal teacher. Ms. Klingman is a good person whom we want our teens to know and to be influenced by as a person of wonderful integrity and professionalism.
