This shopping center deserves more stars. It's underrated IMHO…read more Let me explain why. Firstly, it has everything you need from a shopping center to do your shopping. Dunne's Store is great and big. Then you can finalize with butcher shop, €1 place, pharmacy, sports shop, carphone warehouse etc. that's shopping for you. Want to hang out or have a lunch? There's a place that robs your pockets. That's right - Eddie Rockets. There's some lunch cafeteria. Ice cream shop. Feel sick? Go to medical and dental centre. Or visit Boots pharmacy. Need a haircut? Barbershop and hairdresser is there for you. On a parking level you can get your shoes fixed, keys cut, get some flowers etc. One thing that this place lacks is entertainment. Actually, there's a kids train that drives around with wagons. At least kids can be entertained. Spacious underground car park. With, I think, two hours free time.

I visited recently to make some last minute Christmas purchases and really found myself stuck for options. Dunnes is your usual affair, if a bit small. I would generally shop at GameStop, but that aside there is literally nothing in this place. I would save yourself the journey and head out to Blanchardstown or the Omni Center for a better selection of stores.

Dated and drab looking this center seriously needs an overhaul. There is a big Dunnes stores which keep the locals happy, a bit furniture store on the first floor which has been so expensive everytime i go and lots of smaller cheaper looking shops and boutiques. There was a restaurant upstairs with miserable looking staff and even more miserable looking food but i think they have a subway there now and a mcdonalds on site too. if you like that sort of nasty fatty food. But the good thing is that this shopping center aims to have everything, from shoes, to groceries, to diy, to books, to health clinics and so much more. Is the swimming pool still there? I'm not sure but i'd certainly avoid the dodgy looking pub outside. when i've parked in the carpark, i've watched some colourful and unsavoury looking characters hanging the doorway; at 11am.

The decor is very old, non frivalous, however the shopping centre does have a good Dunnes Stores Department store serving the needs of the local area. It has a large food department, clothes too but unfortunately the home department is very small. Other shops that are in the shopping centre is O2, a few butchers and numerous 2euro shops.

But, you'll also not have failed to notice that it doesn't work out that well in practice - a scrum of people rifling through aisles and aisles of clothing, everyone getting all sweaty and bothered before they try on the t-shirt that you were thinking of buying. Eew. And the TK Maxx in the Pavilions in Swords was no different to the other ones all the other times that I've been there, except that you can't go to a nice coffee shop to recuperate afterwards, as you are in the hell that is a gargantuan suburban shopping centre, and you have to make do with a shitty and soulless Kay's Kitchen. Double eew. All of that changed earlier on today, however. For this morning (Monday) I went to TK Maxx in Swords and hardly recognised the place. There were literally only about another twenty or thirty in this vast shop, so there wasn't the usual feverish mill that one associates with the chain. I was there a little over an hour, and in that time, I managed to pick out and purchase 4 jumpers (in the summer, I know, I'm a tool. And they were all knitwear into the bargain.) Within this relatively small window, I also tried on but rejected about six t-shirts. You know when you have one of those days with the TK Maxx t-shirt aisle? Yeah, it was one of those days. This sparseness of shoppers makes sense, though: people would tend to be in town during the week, and so might stop off at TK Maxx and make it all horrible and crowded and sweaty. Whereas people only go to horrible retail monstrosities like the Pavilions at the weekends. So, if you want to stock up on your cheap designer labels, head out to 'burbs on a weekday morning and escape a little of the drudgery.

Pavilions does have some decent shops. They've got a really big TK Maxx, a tiny Zara and a reasonable-ish sized H&M. There's only two places to sit down and have a cup of coffee, though: a Starbucks (always shite) and another horrible and over-priced café which may or may not be a Kay's Kitchen, but it's definitely in a similar vein. There's a Movies@ cinema there as well which I've not been to (nor am I likely to do so) as Pavilions is pretty much impossible to reach if you don't have a car. Not my first choice when attending to my shopping needs, but you may have gathered that already.

Living in North Dublin I sometimes don't wanna head into town and fight the crowds to go to Penneys on O'Connell or Mary Street (I don't drive either) or when I need to get something from Argos. Pavilions is a nice alternate and I can get here in about 15 minutes (by bus). There are a few other standout stores I like here. I've mentioned Penneys and Argos. Aside from those I also really love the Boots here. It's a big Boots store and they've got a good selection of health and beauty stuff that some of the smaller Boots pharmacies won't carry. There is also a large McCabe's Pharmacy as well. There is a Kilkenny Gift Shop, which has Irish made gifts and handcrafts. It's a bit pricey, but if you're looking for something Irish made of high quality this is a great store. There are a few restaurants here, including some fast food types of places and cafes, and some dine in restaurants like Global Burger Kitchen. There is also a cinema, but I've haven't gone to see a movie here yet. Anyway depending on when you go it can be busy, but I haven't been here when it's too crazy. There are a variety of buses that stop just outside the shopping centre (if you don't drive). If you do drive there is a fair amount of parking available.
