A great cure for writers block! I'm not a yoga pro, but like the results of a good stretch. But this class brought the two needed things for me together. The focus and discipline of yoga practice and then taking that same focus and applying it to writing. It was easier than I thought it would be to connect the mind and body in this creative way. I have participated in Wholly Creative's weeklong summer workshop at Far Horizons as well as the Creative Flow class available on the first Saturday of every month. This class is fire! It gets me moving on my day off and really calms and relaxes me. The writing portion comes right after the yoga, so I'm writing while my mind is centered and free from distractions. The writing prompts really inspire me and I've actually been getting a lot of writing done for my novel thanks to the techniques I'm learning. read more

Marya's put together a wonderful experience (Creative Flow) - much more so than a "class." She works your body loose through the combination of images and stretches that start to connect with your own. When your own images start to percolate, she has you pick up pen, and through a series of prompts she works through the continuum - bringing your words to the surface. This is simply a delightful experience, especially for a writer like myself, who likes to experiment with form and juxtapose experiences as a method of exploration and truth-finding. I would highly recommend this class for any writer who has ever wanted to touch into the deeper recesses, or has suffered from their own stifling resistance. A very freeing experience. In addition, Marya helped me to edit a piece I started in her class and then later developed into a full-length story. She gave amazing and detailed notes. I recently attended my first session of Wholly Creative and I can wholeheartedly recommend this group to anyone who wants to mindfully exercise her or his writing chops in a refreshing and invigorating outdoor setting. Marya Summers skillfully leads the group by first setting a clear foundation for our process through a meditation and yoga practice. She then ignites our creativity with stimulating writing prompts and guides us through the process of baring and sharing our work with each other, if we do desire. The choice for specific feedback and advice about one's pieces is also left up to the the participant to request from the group with no pressure applied by Marya. It is a very supportive group of writers and I was taken by the level of insight, authenticity, encouragement and kindness with which they addressed each other in reference to the work that was shared. There is no doubt that, if my schedule permits, I will return to join this meet-up group again and again. read more
