Nord Room - The tastefully-decorated private event space called the Nord Room is great for small weddings and receptions!

We hosted our cocktail style Wedding Reception here in June and felt it was woefully mismanaged…read morefrom start to finish. We booked all three rooms back in Fall of '23 and paid our deposit and were excited to get planning come May this year. We got to a month before the event and hadn't heard anything from the Event Coordinator regarding current menu, bar, timing, anything. Three weeks prior to the event we reached out and heard nothing for a week. Two weeks out we followed up and found out the Event Coordinator had changed from the one we booked with and the new one was out for an indeterminate period of time with a family emergency. We worked as best we could with the Event Captain but ended up with incorrect menus and pricing and were finally told the Event Coordinator would be back the Monday of our event week and it would be handled then. We got finalized menus and pricing 36 hours before our event. This was extremely stressful, however, we empathized with the Event Coordinator and were assured the event itself would be great. On the day, we arrived and the staff setting up was unsure how many chairs we wanted. They didn't know which equipment we had paid for to use that needed to be set up. They didn't know what the event was for. They were all very nice and let us know they had extremely limited information about our event which was very concerning for us. The Event Coordinator was present for about 5 mins to ask us about a backup wine if ours ran out and that was it (it did run out because there was only one bottle). There was no Event Captain, and the Coordinator was not on hand and (according to staff) unreachable during the event. We had agreed upon several things including a finite amount to pay for "open bar" and then switching to card after that point and we found out only AFTER we met our minimum that they were never told/weren't prepared to take cards. At that point, our options were no drinks (N/A or otherwise) for the last 3 hours or so of our event or we could just keep paying. So we ended up paying much more than was quoted/agreed upon due to lack of communication/oversight. We were told that guests could visit the attached Blue Stem bar, but it closed two hours before our event ended. We also had guests with dietary preferences/restrictions and had ordered vegan options and gluten free cake. We had asked if these could be explicitly labeled to avoid confusion and were told "yes" and on the day it did not happen so many of our guests were unaware there was anything they could eat at our reception. We were also told we could take our leftovers home and we only got cake when there was a lot of food left when they took it away. The sternos were out for some period of time and we couldn't find someone to help with that. The bar was left unattended. The bartenders were serving and refilling alcohol table to table (which we did not want or ask for), and did not pass appetizers as agreed upon. We reached out to the owner, twice, following our event to discuss our concerns to no avail. We LOVE French Meadow and are just heartbroken to have had this experience with them. Posting this (very lengthy) review in hopes no one else goes through this expensive disappointment.

It was so fabulous and we cannot say enough positive things about our experience! All of French Meadow's staff were so lovely to work with. Briana and the entire catering group were so helpful from Day 1. As most wedding couples do, we had a lot of questions about logistics and planning. They answered every one of our questions in a timely manner and were thorough in coordinating all of the details of our special day. The day of our wedding, everyone there was immensely helpful and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. We truly owe them the world for making our wedding day so special! The room is perfect. We added floral centerpieces, but the room itself was setup exactly how we wanted, the chairs outside were moved once for our ceremony and then again for our first dance. The lighting both inside and out was more than we could have imagined. We were able to play our own music (a friend just had to manage the playlist), which was super easy! The FOOD, OH MY GOSH THE FOOD! So superb, we got so many compliments from our friends and family about how wonderful the food was. We got to choose 4 food options for our guests and only heard wonderful things about each entree. The cake was also super wonderful and delicious. We would recommend the Nord Room to anyone looking for an intimate wedding location. It was such an easy day (seriously, nothing went wrong!) and we couldn't have asked for a better staff or location. We had a beautiful day and we owe much of that to the wonderful folks at French Meadow!

This is a smart use of space buried within the Mall of America and more specifically, within the…read moreNickelodeon Theme Park. It benefits from the mall offerings for food and entertainment if your meeting crosses the lunch hour. From a mall planning perspective, it was space that was not really in use for much so why not turn it into something useable and revenue generating? It is a nice, modern, bright space that has good AV capability and space for about 150 people comfortably. Given that, it meets the basic requirements for holding a meeting/conference but it has several quirky things that limit its utility. Being within a busy mall, parking can be an issue especially if your meeting is occurring on a day when the mall traffic is expected to be heavy. The closest parking ramp is the one between Macy's and Nordstrom's. Use the first floor West Entrance, walk straight ahead into the theme park and it is to your right 1 flight of stairs up. It sounds easier than it is, especially if the parking ramp is full, you may end up parking in a totally different area resulting in you being quite a ways away. I do notice that in this particular parking ramp, there are reserved spaces for almost every other type of venue except the conference center. (There are reserved spaces for package pickup, Uber pickup, medical clinic use, etc. but no reserved spaces for the conference center.) This can limit its ease of accessibility. Another odd quirk is that the conference room itself is an odd "L" shape which limits sight lines when in the audience. The room accommodates for this by putting large video screens on the side walls so that the content can be seen by everyone in the room so that is a unique way to deal with the visual obstacles in the room but the overall feel of the room is that it is somewhat broken up because if you sit deep in 1 end of the "L", you cannot see the other side. Another oddity that is quite entertaining but is actually a distraction is that the entry to the conference room (which is the back of the conference room) is floor to ceiling glass. This gives the speaker a commanding view of the theme park and contributes to the brightness and airy feeling of the space. However, as a speaker, you are acutely aware of every roller coaster that roars by because they do so about 10 feet outside the windows. Very thrilling and entertaining but also quite distracting as it occurs every 3-4 minutes. Finally, the noise level from the theme park is loud. The entry/exit is not protected with a double door or some type of entryway receiving room so the doors are the only thing that stand between the actual conference room and the theme park. This means that if anyone comes in or leaves during the middle of a presentation, the full sound and kiddy screams from the rides enters the meeting. Not cool as the audience then can't hear what the speaker is saying and the speaker has an immediate distraction during their talk (not to mention that it pretty much outs anyone trying to enter or exit quietly in the middle of the presentation). Overall, I really like the space and some aspects of the concept but it needs to fix the parking and sound issues for sure if it wants to be considered as a seriously desirable space for large meetings and conferences.

Someone had their wedding that evening. Took advantage of taking a picture. Forgot to take advantage of the $15 pass drinks voucher. Room size was decent comfy king bad, nice Couch, big TV. The parking lot is dark as heck at night which I wasn't a fan of! They really need to brighten it up as it's a bit spooky and feels unsafe but I'm sure it is safe, since it's far out! Upon entrance, there was water with no cups waiting for you...disappointed when coming in and tired. They should keep it stocked! The front desk staff were 2 ladies and a gentlemen who appeared to be a Manager! Although, they were all really nice and friendly the manager was not the best with customer service. He was friendly but seemed irritated! I think that he was training one of the ladies. I requested the top floor as I often do, at hotels but the manager stated that they didn't have any available which I found that hard to believe since the hotel wasn't fully booked! It urks my soul to stay under humans! I settled for a lower floor since I could tell he was irritated and I don't usually push it since I have other ways of dealing with things such as coming on yelp! HA The hotel is outdated walking in but clean! Upon entrance to my floor the hallways are clean and smelled clean. The room was decent but the vacuuming could've been better since there were cracker crumbs on the carpet. I liked the couch in the room as it gave it a classy look from the 80s. The toilet needed to be replaced as it was rusted and actually grossed me out! The bathrooms are definitely outdated as the ceiling is short. Thankfully, I'm 5'2 1/2 but had I come with anyone 5"10 or taller, they would have had to duck to shower!!!* I've never seen this before, where the ceiling was this low). The view from the room was awesome . I love a good view! I wasn't in the room much as I had a full iteniary the entire time for my stay. I literally used the room to sleep and shower so, I made it work. I did upgrade to the hyper allergic room which consist of a humidifier (eye roll), and hyperallergic sheets which honestly, I couldn't tell the difference. I loved the shower water and pressure though! The shower had a filter which made the showers nice and they had hot water which is a huge plus! I love the shower, shampoo and lotion products as they smelled really good! It was raining and freezing outside so I requested a heater since they already turned their boilers down for the summer months. They sent me up a Chllds meal heater.... it was a joke! I closed the curtains and bathroom door so that the lil toy heater would warm the room while sleeping and getting dressed each day... sheesh another huge draw back for me coming from heat was having to fight to stay warm in my room. Thankfully, I bring my own sheet and blanket and thankfully I had winter pj's with me since it's Mn and you never know what to expect! It wasn't extremely bad just outdated and needed heat! I wouldn't stay at this location again but I also wouldn't discourage anyone from staying here as it wasn't a 5 star hotel but def a 3 1/2 star, at best! The indoor pool and restaurant/bar area were nice which boost the stars to 3 1/2. There were no bugs which was a HUGE PLUS because then, I wouldn't have stayed if I seen even 1. Not going to lie!!! Overall, there's plenty of hotels in the area to choose from! They do offer shuttle to and from the airport which is nice, if needed! It beats a motel 6. Or does it? Idk as I've heard great things about those being updated so idk. It beats sleeping outside! How's that!

For a group of ~20 it was perfect: I believe 10 can play at a time so we got to switch in and out. The game itself is a mix of lacrosse and number cars - even more fun than I expected, and our group of ~30 year olds plus some parents had a blast. They also have an arcade, bowling, and an escape room - plus probably other stuff I missed! They had tables you could book/reserve which is nice and service drinks and food like pizzas.

I was surprised at how much space there was inside, and how much there was to do in there. We didn't get a chance to try the actual whirly ball activity, but we did go bowling and play at the arcades. We ate dinner there one night and also spent some time at the bar. I actually enjoyed the birria taco with the consumes. The flavors were there. I think it was evenly balanced out. More meat is always great, but I don't think it was lacking. My son had the tenders, which was OK. The bartenders were also the servers. One bartender particularly was extremely nice and efficient. Both nights we went there were not too busy, but a fair amount of customers. We had a great time and were able to roam around to see what they had to offer.

The day felt like it went off without a hitch. I'm sure there were hiccups, but Kristin took care of them all before my husband and I ever heard anything about them. By the time we got to the wedding day, I was so comfortable with Kristin. We had emailed, talked a dozen times, and met in person as well. We lived out of state, and Kristin was very accommodating, often meeting when we were home around holidays. My husband and I are very organized, but it was wonderful to have someone with experience to bounce ideas off of and take a second look at plans. And all of this was before we even got to the wedding day! I loved having Kristin as a coordinator because she happily and promptly took care of anything we asked. On top of that, she ran interference and let us enjoy the day. Right before we sat down for dinner, Kristin let us know that she swapped two of the tables so a family member could plug in his oxygen tank. Kristin saw this need, took care of swapping the tables and informing the caterer, and then filled us in when we had a free moment. All of these little things throughout the day could have meant time my husband and I (or our close family members) would have had to take away from enjoying the event, but Kristin covered them all. At the end of the reception, I had asked my sisters to help my parents stay behind and clean up. Again though, Kristin had it covered, letting my exhausted parents go home to bed and my sisters out to party further with friends. The next morning, Kristin let us know that one of the groomsmen had forgotten to grab his suit when he left, and she offered to take it back to the rental store for us. Even though we did not hire them as a full wedding planner, Simply Elegant was there from the moment we hired them until the week after the wedding, always one step ahead of our needs.
