Lovely maintained home with so much history. Who visited, who contributed to the building and maintenance of the home, the restoration efforts. It was fascinating. We happened to be there on a day when they received a gift of an original Edison grammaphone with the beeswax songs in paper wrappers! And it actually worked! Amazing. Also loved the Louis Comfort Tiffany windows - just gorgeous!

I was just as surprised to learn that the famed hat-maker once called the small town of DeLand, FL home. I happened to be visiting during peak manatee season and so had the privilege of being able to still enjoy the mansion during its special holiday tour season. During the holiday tour, each room of the mansion has a unique theme to it that you get to learn all about from your helpful docent. Not only do you get to the enjoy the wonderful story of that room's decorations theme but the history of the home and family is wonderfully blended in. I'm told that obviously during the regular historical tour you dive deeper but I left learning waaaaay more about the Stetson family than I ever expected (or knew). The home is privately owned and you the love and passion the new owners have for the historic property is evident in every room. We even had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners (the super sweet and DeLand native, Kayla) I was surprised to learn she had even created many of the decorations herself that adorned the opulent rooms in the mansion. The Stetson Mansion is a great example of one of the many historical gems tucked away in Florida small towns that you can stumble upon when exploring the state. Whether you're doing the regular history tour or holiday tour, you're sure to have a fabulous visit to the Stetson Mansion.

The design is pretty common for the era, it's unusual pitched-tin roof reminds some of the "Tin Man" from "The Wizard of Oz". Since the movie was originally release in 1939 twenty- eight years after the tower was put into service, maybe it was the tower that inspired Jack Haley's character or at least it's design so maybe the opposite may be true. Many longtime residents consider it a landmark and it still holds some sentimental value to the old timers of the area, even though they continue to have to defend its existences. Although the old water tank played an important role in the town's early years its not easy for the younger generations to appreciate it's historic significance or its purpose going forward. The thinking by some is that the newer 75,000 gallon pump driven ground level water storage tank is what will provide opportunities for the economic growth of the future and that this aging gravity water tower from the past will further strap the town's financial budget with maintenance cost, while others feel that the newer tank with its high tech treatment system and its powerful pressure pumps is the best solution for all, but I doubt this kind of short term thinking is what the city's founder visualized and he might argue that 104 years of proven service may warrant retirement verses ending its life at the hands of some demolishing company for a handsome fee. By the way this old historic water tower doesn't need electricity to provide potable water and fire protection to the community since its height provides the static pressure required to deliver its bounty, hopefully the expensive back-up generator starts when the electricity thats required to run the pumps fail or your faucets won't provide you with a single drop of drinking water much less any fire protection - I'd make sure I had a few extra cases of bottled water on hand as a contingency, the walk to the lake to get water for Toto might take awhile...

This place has such a unique, eclectic energy that's hard to find anywhere else: a perfect mix of cozy indoor bar, open-air courtyard with string lights and a massive lighted oak tree that gives it this magical, almost enchanted garden feel at night. It's got that laid-back, artsy DeLand charm but with enough edge to keep things exciting--think market lights twinkling overhead, pool tables outside, and a crowd that's always friendly and ready to have fun. The live music is what really sets it apart. They host original local bands, cover acts, rock, pop, R&B, throwback tunes, and everything in between almost every night--concerts start around 9 PM, and the energy ramps up fast. I've seen everything from killer rock bands to dance-floor fillers that get the whole place moving. And yes, people actually dance here! The courtyard turns into a real dance floor on busy nights--whether it's grooving to 70s classics, current hits, or feel-good empowerment anthems, it's impossible not to get pulled in. No stiff vibes; it's all about letting loose and enjoying the moment. The drinks are strong, reasonably priced (coldest beer in town, as they claim), and the bar staff is top-notch--super friendly, quick, attentive, and genuinely nice. Bartenders like Zach and the rest of the crew remember faces, crack jokes, make killer cocktails, and keep the good times flowing without ever making you feel rushed. The owner and team create this welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels like a regular, even on your first visit. Whether you're coming solo to catch a show, with friends for a night out, or just want a spot to chill with great music in the background, Cafe DaVinci delivers. It's more than a bar--it's DeLand's best original live music venue where you can drink local, dance local, and make memories. If you're in the area, especially on a Friday or Saturday, do yourself a favor and stop by. You won't regret it--I've recommended it to everyone I know, and they all come back raving. Keep rocking, Cafe DaVinci team! 1computeroutlet , 1websitenow

Did you know, these wings are lauded as one of the best tourist attractions in Deland? In 2018 this Deland Wings mural received 3 Best of the West awards. Moreover, it was such a success that the artist (Erica Group) painted 5 more wings murals around the West Volusia area. Yep...they are on my "to do" list! The talent these artists share on buildings, streets, etc. is amazing to me. I love the idea of putting art out there for everyone to enjoy! Plus, it's a great opportunity for kids and may inspire their artistic side. So, just don't walk by these wings...go ahead...take a pic! It's free!
