If you do want your kid to learn coaching here, make sure you stick around and speak up to make sure you're actually getting what you're paying for. I don't have that kind of time. so we ended our classes. What instructors were there seemed fabulous. I can say that working with the management has been a disaster. Great at the sales pitch. Not so great at making sure there are enough instructors for the students.

We were a little unsure what to expect because he can be very nervous of group activities and has been prone to anxiety. So far however he loves Coder School! Everyone that we have met has been super friendly, welcoming and helpful. After each hours coaching we get an email telling us what has happened and what our son has achieved. He really does enjoy the time spent here, he says everyone is really friendly and the coaches are really cool. On one occasion I got sick for a few days and on another I had to fly out of state for a funeral and he made arrangements for me to make up my clinicals at other hospitals during the week. My instructor; Ms. Beth, was like a friend, sister, and Mother to me and very patient. I would text her in the evenings with school book questions and she'd promptly respond that evening versus waiting till the next school day. I have ADHD and a lot of my questions may come off as dumb or redundant, but she never made me feel any less. This is a career change for me and the best part was... before school even ended, she told me the hospital we were doing our clinical rotations at would hire me.... and that's exactly what happened. I always dread renewing my ACLS every 2 years, it's such a gruesome experience with megacodes, EKG…read morereadings, etc. I usually get my renewal through work but this year I decided to try something different. I wanted to try a renewal outside of work with the hopes that it is less stressful. I came across this place through my Yelp search based on the high ratings. When I went to the website, the option to renewal was online portion + skills assessment. I was worried about the skills assessment. I purchased it and scheduled my skills assessment. The online portion is something I have done in the past with my other renewals which really helps prep you with the algorithms and lots of feedback. The online portion is nice because you work at your own pace, on your own time. You must completed the online portion in order to do the skills assessment in person. Before my skills assessment, I received very helpful e-mails to help me pass my skills assessment. They had some videos and helpful tips in the e-mail. When I arrived to the location at San Ramon, I was a little confused as I easily missed the door and was very lost. I called the phone number and they were very helpful in guiding me on where to go. There is NO instructor there, it's just a manikin hooked up to the computer that assesses the skill. I thought the videos helped me pass the skills assessment. I did have to re-do some sections a couple times but the feedback from the computer helped me and I think the e-mail tips clicked after doing the skills assessment. Overall, the skills assessment was definitely less stressful than I expected. It wasn't that bad. I definitely plan to return to do my BLS + ACLS renewal here, it's very chill and at your own pace! I love it. This really eases my anxiety regarding renewal, I would highly recommend for anyone that wants to renew! Everything is at your own pace. You do only have an hour to do the skills assessment, which I felt was PLENTY of time! The skills assessment focuses mainly on the breaths/compressions of CPR and 2:1 teamwork.

I love that this location has its own little parking lot in the back and you just follow the instructions which are emailed to you in order to access the office where you will do your skills testing. Last year I recall there used to be, but they have now locked the adjoining door so you cannot access the restroom if you need to go. The other thing was it doesn't seem that the cart the mannequin is on is able to be moved; or maybe I just couldn't move it? I went in the morning hours and the sun was shining right in my eyes. Just be forewarned if you decide to go to the Castro Valley location - - use the bathroom first and you may want to bring some sunglasses just in case LOL

Incredible community-oriented coding boot camp…read more After working in tech for a decade, my curiosity got the better of me: WHAT exactly are developers doing all day? - What exactly is a "pull request?" - Why do you keep saying "deploy?" - How can changing a line of text take two weeks? Basically, I wanted to know if nerds had been pulling one over on me for 10 years. So I decided to learn how to code. In the past, I've tried to learn this stuff on my own but I always hit a wall. Programming is hard to learn from books and online tutorials alone. And while there are many boot camps in the Bay Area, most are full-time, five-figure affairs designed for people committed to a dramatic career change. 6-8 weeks of full-immersion was not what I was looking for. Kickstart Coding is different. They offer after work and weekend classes which means folks with full time jobs can still learn to code. They are based out of Oakstop (a community space) and host free Meetups where you can get advice from other coders. And they are far more affordable than the other options. If you don't have a laptop they will even let you borrow one for free. They really seem committed to helping all people learn how to code. About the class itself: my first class was March 2, 2020, which was only a few days before the State of California mandated that folks shelter in place due to the Coronavirus epidemic. In only a few days, they had converted the program into an online class. At first I was concerned about the lack of hands-on instruction, but they made it work. They offered office hours and review sessions if you needed extra help. Each class begins with review of the previous class' concepts to keep you up-to-date. Then we'd go through a series of problems that escalate in complexity. Then we would learn new concepts. The pace of the class is fast. You don't have time in class to complete all the exercises, and you're going to have to do at least 10-15 hours of work per week outside of class to keep up. And we learned a lot. We started from the bottom, learning command line basics, and by the end we were deploying(!) like real web applications. It's a full stack boot camp which means you'll learn both back-end (Python, Django) and front-end (JavaScript, React) frameworks. This program is great for anyone wanting to learn how to code, but who doesn't want to quit their day job. The instructors are committed to helping you learn and understand, and what you learn is very practical, i.e., the kind of stuff you'll need in an actual job setting. There isn't a lot of theory (I'd recommend the free Harvard CS50 if you want that kind of thing), but the instructors were always willing to explain and why and how of certain concepts. Lessons consisted of a short lecture time, then hands on problem solving for the new materials. Each lesson would be 3-4 lecture blocks, and 3-4 activities. Activities would start with simple hello world types of problems and increase in difficulty. In addition to the lectures, there was weekly homework and reading, followed by a group project at the end of the course. Looking back, I am amazed at the amount of material we learned in 4 months. Overall, I feel like the course material was very applicable for anyone wanting to do software development, and it was clear that the curriculum is a labor of love for Michael B. I've always been fascinated with how metal is fused together to make beautiful structures. I found out about a series of night courses being offered at Las Positas College that are funded in partnership with Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and the NNSA to provide deployment of workplace skills. Even though the class goes past my bedtime from 6pm-10pm every Tuesday evening, I jumped on this opportunity to learn a new skill. This welding class is an introduction to TIG and MIG welding. These two processes are widely used in manufacturing industries. The course consists of lecture time and hands on shop time with an instructor for each session located in state of the art building 3500. I'm three sessions in and already gaining more understanding of basic welded joints. I look forward to every Tuesday evening and can't wait to see what what project we'll learn about and working on. I attest that you can still teach old dogs News tricks!
