    Spillway Motel & Bait Shop

I apologize ahead of time for the lengthy review. Im from…read moreShelbyville so I'm very familiar with the spillway hotel. I've never really had a problem with the hotel itself; you can't beat the price for the quality of the hotel i guess you could say. I've stayed in a lot worse. About a month ago; the owners wife decided that she was going to get about an inch away from my face and scream at the top of her lungs at me. Because her niece and i got into a heated altercation at MY apartment. She came out from behind the front office counter screaming about how she fights back and blah blah blah. Telling me exactly how everything happened and how i did this and that, when in all reality the situation that she's freaking out about i was more than happy to tell her what happened and who did what and it be the gods honest truth.. i don't lie. I have no reason to. The girl that this was all over is a 20 year old girl who is so strung out on drugs and steals from everyone she knows to support her habit and lies about any and every thing she can. I have always taken the big girl road with this girl because I feel bad for her, she's not a bad person just on the wrong path. Everyone else slaps her around, I tried getting to her with words. But this woman decided it was necessary to call me every name humanly possible but my own birth given name. From a nasty "c" and beyond.. excuse my language but there's really no other good description for the names she called me. The hotel was BOOKED the day she did this. Fourth of July weekend. Everyone was outside grilling, playing games .. literally EVERYONE was outside. This woman was threatening me up one side and down another. Screaming in my face and calling me names. To paint a better picture, while she's in my face screaming at me she screams "get out of my face b*****!" I'm not one to back down from anyone, especially if I'm not in the wrong. I will most definitely stand up for what I believe in and stay true to what I say or do because I will definitely hold myself accountable for my actions. But no one is going to lie on me or about me, and someone who wasn't there when the argument happened isn't going to tell me what happened. Haha! The whole time she's doing this everyone stops what they're doing and stands there and watches her make a fool of herself. (That same night she attacked a girl the same age as her niece and beat her up while someone else held the girl down.) The whole time this woman is yelling profanities and threats at me, I'm calmly asking if she wanted to know the truth of what happened. Saying "no, you're wrong. That didn't happen. Are you done screaming yet? Get out of my face. How old are you? You're twice my age and I'm acting more mature than you are." Never once did I yell back, or curse at her. I let her make herself look like a fool. Out of respect for her husband; who i think is a great man. He helps anyone he can. Always kind. Just a good person thru and thru. Now to yesterday; my boyfriends car overheats due to a blown head gasket. When it overheats, it needs jumped to start. He parked in the back of the hotel, walked up and visited with his 19 yo son who is staying in a room there at the moment. We go to leave and the car is in the red overheating. Our only option besides to run it hot in the red and take a chance on making it blow up and ruin every new part we just fixed (literally all new cooling system) or pull up to my friends room which is two rooms down from the front office and get some water from her and a jump from her boyfriends car sitting right there as well. So we took the obvious choice. This woman sticks her head out of the side door, sees me and instantly loses her cool. Screaming at the top of her lungs. Starts calling me names; calling me a disgusting skank.. among others that are not quite publicly acceptable. I sat silently in the passenger seat, not wanting to add to her nonsense because she does a pretty good job of embarrassing herself and her business on her own. I didn't even look her direction. Once again, numerous people are outside and listening to her call me names and threaten to call the cops. Mind you... this is over a personal issue with someone else (yes, someone she's related to.. but not her) that she is bringing up and making a scene over at her place of business. I've NEVER been disrespectful or done anything wrong at this hotel. Highly unprofessional and extremely unnecessary. Maybe if the hotel were to get different owners and management, Itd be worth a stay. I hope for the future of the Spillway Hotel that this woman has an epiphany of sorts and changes her ways. Otherwise it'll be another has been, rotting building like the Lidster Hotel that people tell stories about from "back in the day".

He's on a walker, so we needed an accessible room with two beds. This was one of the only hotels left in the area (including in Effingham) that met our requirements and didn't break the bank. Hot breakfast was good. Eggs, meat, potatoes, waffles, etc. 24-hour coffee. Computer/printer available. Laundry facilities. Workout room. I didn't use the pool and hot tub, but we saw many guests enjoying it throughout our 2-night stay. Susie was particularly helpful and accommodating. Each time I went to the desk, she asked how my dad was doing. Very thoughtful! Would definitely recommend and would stay here again if/when I'm in the

During my stay I searched up and down, and asked the staff to keep an eye out. A couple hours after I had checked out, and asked to be called if it was found, I went back and luckily got the manager David who knew of my dilemma. So he took me to the room for a 3rd or 4th pass. Then we went to my rental car where he engaged just as committedly. He politely asked if I was ok w/ his help, and then used his cell phone lite to look where I had already looked, felt, and told him the retainer was not. But he could see it under the seat and stuck into a gap in the floor paneling. Pretty incredible. Very incredible. Forever grateful. Above and beyond the call.

This is not a Bed and Breakfast, no breakfast voucher either - so forget anything you read otherwise - I complained about the sign that was even in the window as you walked in stating Bed and Breakfast, which they did remove the next day. Speaking of walking in - I had to push the automatic door to the lobby open (they did fix that the next day) only to find a kiosk virtual front desk (from a different town/state who knows where, that had to call about everything that required attention). After we had drove a few hours, we did get a text to warn us that the elevator was broken (so check on that before you go, because it was still broke when we left). I had booked a room specific to 2nd floor, as my wife has some trouble with stairs after hip surgery (none on first floor, and 3rd floor only has stair access). After the steep climb with luggage (We heard some poor soul struggling to get luggage up the stairs and thought he was going to have a heart attack, but he made it before I was able to get out to help). We got settled in, but before the day was over... the TV quit working. Mr. kiosk suggested the typical things (reboot etc...) that I had already tried and had to show him a picture of the screen that showed it had no connection. He said they would have someone fix the next day after treating me like I did not know anything (I worked in IT over 40 years, I can tell when a Roku cannot connect to a network). Next day, after being out all day, came in to relax - no TV still, Mr. Kiosk said we could move to another room... OK we pack up and move to a new room, and it is super cold, go to Mr. Kiosk again because we could not find a thermostat, his solution ... we move to another room that has a thermostat we can adjust on the third floor - no - we are tired we don't want to lug up another flight of stairs, we will just get out another blanket. We did get a call at that point, and I was told the thermostat is currently in another room for the whole floor, but I can go and adjust (got there and it was set to 66), so we finally was able to settle in and watch TV for the night. (They are planning on making changes to have individual controlled, but something you might want to consider). The last day was better, but not sure we will be back even though we did like the room itself. Definitely, buyer beware - ask before booking.
