Update: Dog has developed aggressive behavior and even through training he won't relent. Issues begin mainly at night and although we leave the dog alone he would attack spontaneously. We spent all the time and money and effort to save our dog but to no avail. Through the vet and GSD specialist we were advised to put the dog to sleep after 6 years. 5 years of perfection with the last year he developed this anger issue. I feel like this is an issue we couldn't resolve and I just want people to know our story from this breeder. read more

We got our dog " Rango" in June of 2011. We were treated excellent by Callie. We lived In Shakopee and they met us half way to deliver our new dog. I had 8 German Shepherds prior to getting Rango. I've dealt with several different types of kennel owners and I think Callie and Jeremy do an awesome job. Rango was easy to train had he decided that he needed a job to be my wife's service dog. Rango was easily the smartest dog we've ever had. He made our life easier. Rango was naturally good with people, children and other dogs. We live in a neighborhood where there are many small dogs and they all loved Rango. Rango passed away on May 23 2022 but not until he finished job with my wife , once he made sure she was in bed for the night he died in my arms. We had an Awesome 11 years , he went everywhere with us and he was never left alone because he was always at my wife's side. We know it will be hard to replace Rango and after some time to grieve our loss we will definitely be looking for another quality dog. Thank you Callie and Jeremy read more

Although we never heard back from Whitestone about Pepin's hip dysplasia, we are extremely happy with our dog! Pepin's hip dysplasia is not "clinical" and has not affected her in any way so far - and that may be the case forever. She is extremely friendly and LOVES people and children. Does just fine with other dogs - especially when off-leash. We provide a mostly raw meat diet and she does very well with that and we highly recommend it. Pepin had lots of energy but can also be a cuddly little white fluff ball. We love and adore her and wouldn't give her away for the world. read more

Emails were nice but on the day I was getting the puppy, I had problems getting down there and was not able to arrive at agreed meeting time. Callie Smuder decided after I was halfway there and emailing her that I was on my way after paying to rent a car for a friend to drive me plus gas, about $200.... That she was too busy for me to buy the puppy and she would sell her to someone else. This after I had a $100 deposit invested. Total investment then for trip and deposit was $300 which would have bought me a nonpedigree purebred locally. I decided heck with it, we will camp outside her door until she gets home or answers. We were gonna call cops if necessary! She very happily accepted the $900 cash and said they just got home. Puppy was handed over. Phew. She has grown up to be a good dog, healthy but a bit skittish in spite of major socialising. read more

We purchased our puppy in October 2012, and she is almost 3 now. We have never had any health problems with her, she is a sweet-tempered dog, and we haven't had any problems with Callie. We have sent her periodic emails with pictures of our dog, and she has always responded saying she is glad our dog is doing so well. I believe we have even talked on the phone when we were purchasing her. I'm not sure why there are other negative reviews on here. I'm not sure if I would trust the review complaining about how doesn't talk to you on the phone, because we talked to her! read more

We adopted one of their breeder moms at 7 years old from a rescuer who only had her a short time. (We knew where she came from due to her paperwork) We were told by our vet she had possibly over 10-12 litters of pups. She's a very happy girl now at 9 years old, but has had to overcome a lot in her short time with us. She has clearly been mistreated for a very long time, terrified of everything in site! She is our special girl and we love her with all we have, but so saddened that she has had to live such an awful life before us! I tried to contact them many times asking questions about her past, but never a response. Does not seem to be a reputable, healthy breeder, I'd love to discuss her previous life with them, but have just been ignored. She's our girl and that will never change and glad she gets to live her golden years happy and loved! read more

My husband and I bought a white German Shepherd from White Stone Kennels about 5 years ago. I wish we would have seen the negative reviews back then, that might have saved us a lot of grief. Don't get me wrong we love our dog, but as a lifelong German Shepherd owner this is the most difficult dog I've ever had. Once we picked up the dog (she wouldn't let us pick him up at her actual home which should have been a hint something was off), he was such a sweet docile dog, with major bowel issues. After the first several weeks of constant diarrhea we took him to the vet and found out we payed over $1000 for a pup with major intestinal worms. If you pay that much money you expect to pick up a puppy free of worms. After he got healthy we found his temperament was completely different and he quickly became a little hellion. We first tried to contact Callie for help once he starting showing he was going to be an aggressive dog and when I tried to set up a time to work with Callie and our pup, she just stopped all contact with me through the internet. I got the hint we were on our own and all she cared about was getting money for beautiful dogs with horrible temperament. 5 years later, tons of money on training that isn't working, and we still have a dog that we can't let near strangers or he tries to attack them. For anyone considering buying a dog from Callie Smuder I would suggest buying a dog from an animal shelter before buying one from Callie Smuder. In fact we did buy a second dog from an animal shelter and it's the sweetest dog in the world. read more

I bought my dog, Daisy, in 2007, from Whitestone Kennels. She is a stunning dog. People turn their heads wherever we go and ask what type of dog she is. She is my personal service dog and so much more. At 9, she is in very good health and she still wears me out playing stick . I didn't have a warm fuzzy experience with this breeder; but it appears that she is cordial to some of her clients. read more

Bought a puppy in 2010 from Callie. Responsive, dog shipped on time, no health problems. Friendly over emails, I had no issues whatsoever and would definitely use her again. Our dog is just gorgeous and friendly. She answered all my questions before and after we got our dog. read more

So I just tired to get a puppy from Sable Rock Kennels and had a unique experience. This kennel is run, I guess by Callie smuder, whom only works via email which may be fine for some but not all. We were impressed by her timely responses via email, her loyal Facebook following and her seemingly family oriented nature. We sent in a modest $100 deposit for a puppy and that's when our experience took a turn for the worst. We asked to speak with her over the phone for a quick 5 min call to get a better feeling for who see was and a bit more about our soon to be puppies mom&dad but as soon as we asked for a time to speak she avoided the request and sent a criptic email about being too busy and emailing is the best for her.... A red flag in our heads was now raised as we too have a family and we too work but even the busiest of people can take or give a 5 min call to a customer when said cutomer is spending $1800 with you; not to mention we are adding a significant member to our family we though developing a relationship & repore with our breeder would be a good idea. Apparently, if you want to do anything more with Callie other than sending money and exchanging emails prior to picking up your puppy, then your just too much of a hassle and your potential business can be replaced by someone who is content with a less hands on approach! So after the criptic email response from Callie where SHE expressed that SHE would just take the puppy off "a sold status" and put her on the "available for purchase" list we were shocked to say the least. We never expressed that our business was contingent upon a call but none the less she felt the need to jump to that conclusion, weird! Thus to end our exprience we sent one final email citing our shock and disappointment at her actions that we just decided to part ways, identifying that this may be a precursor to future hassle in case god forbid anything turned out to be wrong with the puppy. Conclusion: Not a satisfying experience and it cost us $100 to find out that dirty detail; and still no new family member to speak of. So take it for what it's worth and make your own conclusions for yourself- just some critical feedback from a perspective customer and if our post helps you draw a safe financial conclusion and spares you some heartache as well, Great! I just hope I can prevent others from making our mistake. read more

I'm surprised at all the negative reviews as well but perhaps her breeding lines and business strategy has changed over the years? We got our Pup Robinhood in 2007, he will be 10 soon and has had next to no health problems throughout his entire life. We did talk on the phone to Callie i believe when we were in the process of adopting him. She was happy to answer questions about the raw diet, provided puppy temperament testing to help choose the puppy that was right for us, and even helped us decide whether we wanted a male or female pup. Most of our contact WAS thru email but that was easier for me as well and i believe her husband did talk to us on the phone before payment was made. (when we put our deposit in). At 10 years old the only health issues Robin has had have been skin allergies (which developed a few years ago and is pretty normal for the breed, especially light-haired dogs as robin is a white shep.- also, if you consider the 'allergies develop every 7 years- thats about the age he was when his allergies became more of an issue) This past year he tore his ACL and our vet does not recommend surgery on it due to arthritis. - but, again- he is a 10 year old dog, and arthritis is pretty normal in anyone that old. All in all he has aged normally and gracefully. With the help of some allergy meds and occasional pain meds when he's limping badly and in obvious pain (we do not give him pain meds often as we do not want to damage his liver and other organs!) he's just as bright eyed and bushy tailed as the day we brought him home. He's very smart, very loyal and very loving. Everybody who meets Robin - including some who have been afraid of dogs their entire lives- fall in love with our sweet mellow boy. Every has their own experiences but mine was wonderful and I Thank you, Callie and Whitestone Kennels every day that i have my wonderful boy in my life. read more

Avoid Whitestone Kennels and Callie Smuder at all costs. There are plenty of reputable breeders out there who will guarantee their puppies and work with you through any problems - she is NOT one of them. I purchased a puppy from her via email. TRUE, she does not want to speak by phone, and writes cryptic emails that only address what she wants to address (i.e.money), and ignores all other questions you may have. When my puppy arrived to me , he was SEVERELY underweight, sick, wouldn't eat. I was told it was my fault and I could return him, but she hinted she would put him to sleep if they could not diagnose his digestive problems. After hundreds of dollars in vet bills I was able to "force" her to send me a refund yet kept the pup (only because I am a lawyer and I guess she was afraid I might sue her). Yes, her website looks slick, but her business practices are FAR from acceptable. I placed the pup thru White German Shepard Rescue and he now has a good home, no thanks to Callie. read more
