Underdog Rescue - Adoption day

Underdog Rescue

This was our first experience adopting a rescue. We have learned a lot during our journey, which…read moretook us almost a year. We were prepared to drive from Minnesota to Indiana to bring home our rescue pup. Along the way we were lied to and tricked by two different rescue organizations that were both out of state. I changed my strategy and decided to confine our search to the twin cities area and fortunately came across Underdog Rescue. I'll admit I was cautious and skeptical because of the bad experiences we had, but I knew I had to look close to home. There is just too much risk to drive 10 hours to purchase a dog you have never even met. Coupled with the fact that they know nothing about whom they are releasing these dogs to. That is really a huge disservice to these animals whom have already been through so much. We highly recommend Underdog Rescue, they run their organization with great integrity and they take their responsibility of placing these animals in safe, loving homes very seriously. Every single step of our adoption process with Underdog Rescue was very well organized, with great communication/response time and everything moved along nicely. From the adoption coordinator, foster family, home visit consultant all whom work full time jobs and volunteer their spare time to place these animals in the loving homes they deserve. We can't thank Underdog Rescue enough for helping us give sweet Carmy (Tutti-Frutti) her forever home!!

Everything. Underdog is so helpful and super responsive. We had a special circumstance, and they…read moremet us where we were on our adoption journey and connected us with our goodest boy, Coach! (Fka Nantucket!) highly recommend working with them.

I worked for about 3 weeks prior with a person named Kristi Adams. At first the agency said "no" because I was from out of state (about 5 hours away). But after pleading my case with the 27 years experience my wife and I have with the breed and the rescue success stories we've had, Kristi went to bat for us and the adoption was approved. Angus had a broken back at a young age and was brought in to be put down. Kristi made sure that didn't happen and he was nursed back to health under her care. He is a typical Scottie with his "Scottitude", but got along well with his older brother Winston for the year they were together before Winston passed away. He now has two younger brothers. The house can get crazy with a 4,2,and 1 year old dogs. But we love every minute of it. Three Scotties can find trouble wherever they want to. Angus loves to watch TV and goes crazy when there is a dog on the screen. Even though I'm sure his medical bills were high, his adoption donation was only $400. Angus has brought much joy to our home and refuses to leave my side. Not overly affectionate, but very loyal(typical of the breed). I was so happy with Homeward Bound and it's staff, especially Kristi, they receive a donation from me every Christmas season.

A few days later we got approved, and we told that they were waiting to hear back from the foster for more information about her and to schedule a time to meet. We were very excited to meet her and have a new addition to our family. We didn't hear anything for a week and then she was removed from the website. I had to reach out and ask what was going on as there was no communication. Turns out that AFTER we were told we could adopt her, the foster decided to keep her. While I'm glad the she found her forever home, it was very heartbreaking, such a letdown and a giant waste of time. This experience definitely rubbed me the wrong way.
