The rooms are large and comfortable and nicely updated and decorated. The backyard and patio are amazing, with both a pool, a hot tub, and plenty of spaces to kick back and relax w/ a cup of coffee or glass of wine. The owners are very sweet and helpful and make a wonderful breakfast. We enjoyed eggs, sausage, and hazelnut encrusted french toast, with a cup of fruit and plenty of coffee and tea and juice. We enjoyed our stay at the R&R Guest House and highly recommend it for a quick getaway from Portland!!! Highly recommend staying here if you are in The Dalles.

The Dalles…read moreinstead of Hood River, new places to visit, new place to stay, etc. We have stayed in B&Bs and small guest inns before. We have had one where the hosts can't quit talking. Or where they were so creaky that you hesitate to use the bathroom at night for fear of waking up the whole building. Truthfully, R&R Guest House is none of those things. Kevin and Julie are friendly and will help you with as much or little guidance as you want on local hikes, wineries etc. But they aren't in your face or space... Another big highlight is that this property feels new and old at the same time. Definite charm retained in their remodeling. Yet, no feeling of "this doorknob might come off in my hand." And the hot tub and pool are very, very nice. The landscaping is lush and well laid out. Finally--the two meals we hadat this B&B was consistently the best meals we had that weekend, compared to restaurants in both Hood River and The Dalles. Not too often I give an unequivocal thumbs up, but here you go.

First the good: Great location…read moreVery homey Nice staff Now the bad: Hard bed. No door on bathroom! And worse yet NO curtain!! Refrigerator froze everything I put in it including fruit :) Bathtub/Shower did not drain. Had to stand in standing water during showers. Yuck!! Reported to housekeeping and it still did not drain. I had to blast hot water down to fix it myself. Protein like an egg bite from Costco would make for a better breakfast. Parking for six room but there are nine rooms so street parking on a steep hill is sometimes the only choice.

This little hidden gem is in the center of downtown Hood River. It's walking distance from many…read morerestaurants and pubs and a short walk (15 to 20 depending on your pace) to "The Ruins" events venue near the railroad tracks. On our visit (it was my kiddo and me and our two service dogs) we ended up in a one bedroom with no view next to the parking lot. It was surprisingly quiet and with the a/c blasting it was a place to rest my weary head. Unfortunately I was not expecting the outrageous increase in prices. It had been over 30 years since I visited Hood River and what I thought or assumed would be a less expensive hotel it was over $300 during the summer months. This was for a Queen/King bed (one), shower (no tub), a smaller than usual mini fridge with no freezer and no microwave. There was dog poop outside (just one little dried turd) that the previous guest missed and I'm assuming the maid service missed. You are given one key and you want to make sure you get the after hours number listed on the front side of the front entrance door. You'll also want to make sure you get the WiFi password prior to getting settled in. It's easy to forget to ask about this with how busy the front desk can be. The employees were wonderful and went above and beyond to help me with my service dogs. Once we got settled in there was a loud knock at the door. This was unexpected and startled all of us and I was going on no sleep from a long drive. I think it was the owner of the place who wanted to let us know to get the password at the front and take note of the number at the door for after hours. She also asked about the dog beds provided. They provide the most adorable dog beds and offer an extra sheet to go over it. The floors in our room were dirty and sticky but we always were flip flops to protect our feet. I'm sure they clean and mop daily but I'm OCD and used to clean homes so I'm a stickler for super clean floors. The toilet paper roll was on the toilet plunger which bothered me since I thought that was super gross. I feel bad saying anything negative. The breakfast in the morning was absolutely lovely and made up for the room. The employees were all very friendly and went above and beyond to help out. Totally separate from the cleanliness of the room and the dried dog poop outside the door of the room.

The exceptional customer service from Ashley really stood out. She was so helpful getting us checked in, helped us select a lovely red wine, and her cheese and cracker board was absolutely delicious! We found a great old Western, settled back, and just relaxed. The location is excellent, with everything within easy walking distance. Great service, comfortable room, wonderful little touches, and a perfect location. We're already looking forward to our next stay!

They communicated really well from the start, when I booked the rental months in advance. And it's only a few minutes drive to town for groceries or other necessities. This specific dwelling is extremely private, simply surrounded by trees and nature. The parking space allowed for easy access to the treehouse entrance, and it was absolutely stunning inside. Plenty of seating options for lounging in the living area, as well as outdoors on the balcony. A kitchen with dishes and paper towels, we were able to put together a nice dinner on Saturday evening. There was also a firepit outside, but no cooking inside the treehouse, just a microwave. There were plenty of plush towels in the bathroom, and the bed in the loft was soft and comfy (a ladder leading to the upper level). They had an in-wall AC unit, central heating, as well as portable heaters and fans throughout, making it convenient to reach a comfortable temperature in any room. And they also offered board games such as scrabble, wine-opoly, and conversation starter card decks, which seem ideal for couples. We enjoyed TwoSome, a game where we win together or lose together. Seriously, this was a good one (though it was missing one card). Even though they don't offer wifi service here, we had no problems accessing the internet on our phones during our stay (T mobile). And it's only a 2-3 minute walk to the river, just over the train tracks, the area peaceful and gorgeous, with magnificent views, and the water a lovely temperature for swimming. I was enamored with the whole experience, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and relaxing getaway.
