Rachel arrived on time, had an impressive setup, and maintained a warm, friendly demeanor throughout the event. Guests thoroughly enjoyed the treats, and her thoughtful touch of providing bags for attendees to take goodies home to their kids was especially appreciated. I would absolutely consider working with Rachel again for future events. Thank you, Rachel!

There were a few places that responded to my request. Rachel from Sparkle was the most responsive to all my questions. We started corresponding on Wednesday and my event was the following Monday. By Friday we were ready to go. 2 popcorn machines and enough supplies (kernals and bags) for 200 people. She delivered the machines by 8:30AM when my contract didn't have a start time until 9AM. She knew I was concerned I wouldn't know how to run a popcorn machine. I am always a concerned when I am using other people's money makers..lol...I don't want to mess it up. Anyhow, she was thorough in her directions. Even left me a printed instructions sheet to refer to. The popcorn was the highlight of the training. Impressing 200+ attorney's is quite a feat by the way, and the popcorn did it..lol! Thank you Sparkle for your professionalism, your promptness and your patience. There was a little back and forth there for a minute but Rachel never made me feel like I was a bother. She always responded to me in a timely manner and made everything go seamlessly. I will make sure to recommend and use Sparkle again for future parties.

I had DJ Joey dj my wedding and could not have been more disappointed…read more For starters I should have known to verify things after he tried to tell us there was no "clean" version of our grand entrance song and we may want to change it. I was pretty set on this song so I researched for myself and was able to find the clean version on 3 different platforms in about 60 seconds. Another thing is that I have never heard of a DJ who doesn't take requests... I guess we are supposed to know every song our guests are going to want to listen to beforehand. He was unable to take a request for a song that a lot of our guests wanted to hear. The biggest problem of the night was that he played the wrong song for my father daughter dance. We put the very title of the song and what version on the document we shared with him and even had a meeting to go over all of it. If there were ever any doubts he should have reached out to confirm he had the right song and clarify. I really hope this isn't a thing that has happened to a lot of couples he's DJ'd for because it absolutely ruined the moment. That was one of the moments I was looking forward to most because the song had a lot of meaning being that it was my stepfather I was dancing with. He seemed to be more worried about other things like asking us and all of our vendors if we would have an umbrella for him at ceremony even after we already told him we would take care of it. He also kept saying how he would be like "our second wedding planner" and tried to interject himself into things that did not pertain to him. He should probably focus more on making sure he does the DJ part right. Overall I was very disappointed with the experience and would not recommend him. He didn't even have the curtesy to apologize to me after my husband let him know he played the wrong song.

El Rosal - Jumpers and Bounce house Rentals

Very happy with our experience renting from El Rosal for my birthday party this last weekend! It…read morewas a little hard to get ahold of them... one day, I tried numerous times and never had someone answer the phone. Another two times, I had called and someone who didn't speak English answered, but both times I was put on hold to get someone who did. I saw that this phone number actually goes to El Rosal Bakery, so I guess they are running bounce house rentals on the side? Who knows! I rented a bounce house from a different local company for the kids at my husband's birthday a few months ago, and it was $100 more expensive ($399 total), I could only have it set up for 2.5 hours (4pm - 6:30pm) due to the pick-up schedule for the driver that Saturday, AND most importantly to me... it *STANK*. I mean, these little 3 year olds reeked like a high school boys' locker room, so badly you could smell them as they ran by you. Terrible. The bounce house for El Rosal was reasonably priced, and was delivered the morning of our party. The guys who came were great to work with, AND they fully cleaned/sanitized the entire interior after setting it up for us... it didn't smell AT ALL the entire day! Worth it for that alone, I was so happy they did that! ANDDDD we got to keep the bounce house for an entire 24 hours, so the kids could play in it as long as they wanted that evening, with pickup the next morning. Communication was great via text for delivery and pickup. Highly impressed with the whole experience and would absolutely recommend them for kids entertainment for any party!

I read a review of a customer who had their bounce house canceled last minute and it worried me a bit. But, I wanted to give my kiddo a special 6th birthday and with all the expenses, a party requires, couldn't afford the prices that all the other bounce house places demanded so I went for it. I ordered over the phone and paid up front. I got a small bounce house (for my small space), two tables, and 25 chairs for my backyard party. I also went there and bought a piñata with a convenient stop at the dollar tree next door for all the party supplies (table covers, cups, plates, etc.). I couldn't have been happier with El Rosal's level of service, professionalism, and delivery. they even called the day before to make sure the timing was right for the party's start time. We even got to keep everything for 24 hours so my kiddo and I got some extra time in the bounce house, which was bonding and fun. The kids had a blast and I will definitely be ordering bounce houses exclusively from El Rosal in the future. The piñata was also a huge hit! Thank you for making a big ticket item like a bounce house accessible for the rest of us!

Mary Lou helps out with the preproduction and makes sure that you have stuff that you may have forgot to ask for. That may include things like XLR snakes, and audio breakout boxes for the stage. Here's my story: The 50th anniversary pride event downtown had three stages and the stage I was operating was in a location where bands have never been setup before Getting everything up in the open like that had many challenges. It took months of planning and Mary Lou was there for a good portion of that always answering questions and making great suggestions. I love working with independent businesses like Santa Cruz sound and I would certainly rent microphones, speakers, mixing consoles, and power conditioning devices from her next time I am in charge of an out door event.

I had visited Santa Cruz Sound a couple of times and found the prices high, but I'm not savvy…read moreenough to know if there was a significant difference in quality. I prefer a face to face deal when it comes to a significant electronics purchase, so I don't mind paying a LITTLE extra. I meet the owner (Marylou) and give her a copy of my latest DVD to share with her grandkids. I know I may need a little more attention than some of her customers as I'm totally naive when it comes to picking the best pro audio equipment for the job. I'm searching for a battery powered amp that I can use for both busking and school shows. (I need to amplify an iPod and a wireless mic) I research the internet and arrive at a few possibilities, Crate Limo 50w (Rechargeable battery, company was bought out, crappy support, but Magicians love the effects so it's great till you whack the knobs and crack the circuit board), Roland Cubes have effects but small woofer and eats up AA's, then there is the brand Marylou carries, called Traynor (it's a rechargeable too but has no effects). I opt for the Traynor 50w. She tells me that the 15w has much better tone than the 50w. (She has no 50w in stock) I'm thinking "What the hell has tone got to do with wattage?" (First warning sign) I decided to try it with my iPod in the store and it seems loud enough. I have a $500 DPA headset mic with a Sennheiser wireless and I could get within 6 ft. of the speaker before I got feedback. She had several other customers and I didn't push the volume all the way up. (Out of courtesy for the other customers) Her price is $40 above the internet price. She says, "They haven't raised their prices yet, but her wholesale cost had just been raised, so she's sure everybody else will raise their prices too." (Warning #2 This has nothing to do with the fact that I can still get it online for $40 cheaper.) I had a very old Tapco amp that had blown out the left channel and I was told that I could get something much lighter with a warranty for about what I would spend on repairs. (Probably true) She offers me $40 for the amp's road case and "recycles" ? the amp. I buy the 15w Traynor and when I get it home, I get nothing but squealing pig (feedback) when I am in the same room with the amp. I can't possibly get the mic to talk over the iPod music and be anywhere near the amp. I call Marylou and she says she has very good results with Audio-Technica mics, maybe I should try one of those. (Upsell?) I happened to have a producer buddy that had one for sale (used twice, it was about a $600 package for mic and transmitter/receiver). He gave it to me for $200. I got a little more volume out of it, but it still squealed like a pig. I take it all to Maryann, hook it up and ask what I'm doing wrong, she fiddles with the AF and RF of the wireless system and then says, "Maybe you should try this!" (She brings out the Madonna-style headset with a super cardioid mic and everything works great! You could almost stick your head completely in the speaker before it would feedback.) My question is this: This mic is under $100, is this the reason it was never suggested in the first place? Shouldn't the owner (who's also the floor salesperson) of a pro audio store know that I was going to have problems with an omni-directional mic when performing in FRONT of my speaker? At this point I'm totally broke, remember I'm trying to buy busking gear so I could hustle money off the street. She offers me $175 for the mic I just bought, I have to take it. (In hindsight, I think she only suggested the A-T mic thinking I would buy it from her.) I take the money and find a new Sennheiser super cardiod on eBay for $100 it shows up and works great! One problem, now that the squealing pig has left the building and I can actually talk over the music, when everything is mixed well, there's not enough punch to control 200 screaming kids. We're right back at square one. (Remember when I asked for the 50w version?) She said I had the system too long to refund. (this dance lasted about 10 weeks) I was advised to sell it on Craigslist and told that I could get more for it there than she could give me. I told her I put her in a place of trust, that I thought I should be able to draw on her experience as a pro audio shop owner and be guided to the right equipment for the job. She ended up with $200, my amp, road case, and a like new mic (for less than wholesale). I paid $25 to sample the mic, traded in my old amp, did my own R&D, and still got stuck with an insufficient system. I finally lost it and told her, "Look, I spent all this f*#^in' time and money, you end up with all this gear, and I still don't have a system that will do the job!" She said, "All this money? Well, I'm so sorry I've failed you!" When I met her, my gut told me, "I bet this ol' pot-head would say anything to make a sale!" I always pay when I don't listen to my gut!
