My long-term dentist retired and I needed work done when some childhood fillings collapsed. Dr…read more Manunts is very stand-offish with non-existent chairside manner. She sent me to have three teeth removed. While I was waiting for those sites to heal I lost the tip of another. I went in to have the tip repaired and she also did purely cosmetic fillings on the outside surface with the warning it might not last. She was right. It didn't. I paid over $800 for a gloss that fell out after two weeks. It's been a year now and the tip repair has fallen out, too. I had a partial plate with six teeth built for almost $2K. I can't wear it. It gives me a speech impediment. She said, "Oh, just read the newpaper outloud." There is so much plastic I can't find my alveolar ridge to form an l, n, d, or t. There is even plastic on the back surface of the upper front teeth, that I can't form an Italian l either. I'm a voice professional and must be able to perform in Italian, French, and English as well as demonstrate to my students. The only positives about the office are the delightful woman in the front office and the very healthy croton that gets morning sunshine through the window. Avoid at all costs. I have spoken with others who unanimously share my opinions, but they don't seem to register reviews here.

The staff were genuine, attentive, and professional -- you can feel when a clinic truly values patients, and this one does. My first visit was excellent. The care team listened, took their time, and never made me feel rushed. The atmosphere was modern, clean, and relaxed. Staff encouraged and reinforced positive habits rather than shaming anyone for what they "should" be doing -- a huge difference compared to other places. The first set of x-rays was essentially free (saving me hundreds), which stunned me. Both the dentist and hygienist were thorough, careful, and patient. This is how dentistry should feel: professional, compassionate, and centered on care -- not billing. I highly recommend Gorges Dentistry to anyone in Ithaca looking for quality dental care.

Schedule and bills were Rube Goldbergian. "It's broken" and "Yes, heh-heh, yes" were the responses, respectively, of hygienist Mattie and owner Anthony Raggi to herky-jerky "panoramic X-ray" and my comment "You want my money, don't you?"--as he appeared from the back room to interrupt my starting to ask about confusing paperwork with "Is there a problem?" A re-capped 20-year-old crown ran $1500 taken mid-term. At the close of 3 visits, a recurring "-$138" remainder not refundable was claimed as due to said feckless X-ray.

my anxiety? generalized, chronic! dental anxiety? don't know her! and if i did, Dr. Joe would hook…read moreme up with the correct dose of something to knock the anxiety right out of me! we have a long and storied history, going back to when i was a pre-teen with a baaadd cavity. Dr. Joe pulled the tooth, recommended an orthodontist (Dr. Cacciotti, who is now retired) who he communicated with via regular coffee dates at Wegmans with throughout my dental journey. we decided to pull three more molars, then Dr. Cacciotti put my braces on, pulled my furthest molars back and gave me a dazzling smile in the end. Dr. Joe has got me through it with effortless grace and his shoes by the door (even though he does frequently ask if i'm adopted now). The thing with pulling the molars forward was apparently even written about in a dental journal! I'm a star, all because of Dr. Joe! Now, it hasn't been all sunshine and roses. i mean, it's still the dentist's office. people don't end up in the dentist office because something good has happened. i have shed tears in that parking lot as the cows stared me down. But these folks have the good taste not to bring up the time i (by now being an actual adult and having should have known better) smashed a tooth while riding my bike with my dog on a leash beside me. the dog had a great time but they eventually had to do a root canal and put a veneer on the tooth to make it the right size. This event is not ever mentioned in my presence, within guidelines of good taste! But even at my lowest, Dr. Joe's office got me though it. and once the dental emergencies that you hopefully never have more of are over, it just comes down to maintenance. after the braces and the molars and the bike, it's nice to just have an uneventful cleaning once in awhile. This office can do both! Besides my now completely average looking set of pearly whites, the testament of Dr. Joe's quality is his team. Alisha, Rachel and any of the dogs you might meet on your visit are always a joy to interact with. The cows on the lawn are the first sign you've found something special, but the cows are just the tip of the iceberg. I do wish they would reopen the waiting room post covid, but i understand wanting to keep the staff safe and adapting a business model to fit what works best. Thanks, Dr. Joe, Alisha and Rachel for keeping my smile dazzling!

I couldn't understand, as my wife and I had been seeing this dentist, in Ithaca, for many years! I was in terrible pain, for days. I contacted Dr. Whipple's office based, on his existing rating. After describing what my issue was, the staff at Seven Valley Dental, arranged for me to see the Dr., in less than an hour and a half. That is unheard of! Amazing. The Dr. helped with my dental issue, prior to a prearranged appointment with an oral specialist, later that day. My general dentist did NOTHING to help me! Again, I have no idea why not. I contacted the office three (3) times, about my plight. Awful! My wife and I are seniors and need stability and assurance that our dental needs will be met with understanding and compassion. Dr. Whipple and his entire staff at Seven Valley Dental provided that for me. I understand that this review is my own personal experience. However, one needs to look at the other posts about this dental practice. Cortland residents are very lucky to have such a great dentist in their midst!!!!! I cannot give a higher endorsement to this Dr. and his entire staff of professionals!! Bernie B. Dryden, NY

It doesn't even have that awful dentist office smell! I was pleased with the way Dr. Whipple explained my dental issues and what the appropriate treatment would be. Be aware that they don't perform root canals in office, but refer you to an endodontist, which can be good or bad. For me, it's inconvenient to have to go to another office (hence the four star rating), but there's certainly nothing wrong with having a specialist do the procedure. I plan to have my routine care at Seven Valley Dental from now on.
