The White Lion at Cray is a pub well know to locals, walkers and bikers both motorised and pedal power.
Up a hill in the middle of nowhere with a lovely Beck running opposite, (or a raging torrent when we last went) .
This is not a high heels and suits pub, (although you could wear them and no one would bat an eye lid.)
This is a comfy sit in the front room pull up a cosy chair and eat drink and be merry. The menu choice is extensive and not expensive. Huge specials blackboards adorn the walls, and all number of interesting artefacts are dotted around.
Roaring fires, stone floors and an ecclectic mix of tables and chairs give this pub a wonderful back in time feeling.
Everything we had to eat (4 of us) was faultless, tasty home cooked food at its best. Great beer and ale, not a wide selection of wine but hey this is not the Ritz.
The kitchen area can be seen from the bar and is always bustling and busy.
There is also a side room with larger tables for groupsand up the stairs a delightful annex where you can look down and people watch.
Parking to the front gets filled up quickly at the week end.
If you want an experience and stunning surroundings either before, after or during a walk then this is the place for you.
No pretentions just a great Dales pub. read more
