The service was pleasant enough, albeit there was quite a bit of self service involved (which is typical of English short staffing since Brexit). Absolutely Loved the scotch eggs and fish n chips. Overall, the place's charm and the fact that it was thee perfect weather day in the English countryside makes this a 5 star experience.

It's got strange live music, a pool table, a beer garden, free newspapers, a small but decent selection of beers, seating on the street, bar billiards (sometimes) and... thousands of pigs. That's right - this dark but warm little pub is brimful of random pig toys, pig posters and pig sculptures. It adds a unique atmosphere to an already well-known atmospheric pub. Being only about 20 houses away, you can trust me that this is a true local gem. After 5 on most nights you'll find this place packed with drinkers who can't be bothered to go home just yet or catch the train home to the villages. Even if it's near-freezing out you'll still see us taking our beers out and sitting on the grass by the BBC next door so that the smokers can smoke away. And on a hot summer night - it's just perfect. No need to go home until I get thrown out.

We had no idea what to expect, as neither of us had eaten here, but we wanted to meet in or around Cambridge. We chose the Green Man as it was easy to get to on the A10 into/out of Cambridge, had its own car park, and served all day Sunday Lunch, rather than just 1 or 2 hours over midday. We booked ahead, so we were treated to a great table in the far corner, away from a lot of noise, but retaining enough atmosphere. The place was vibrant and the staff were very friendly. The food was fantastic, with very generous helpings. The beer selection was good too, with some lagers, along with a few good ales like Landlords, IPA etc. They made a slight muck-up bringing our coffees out before our puddings, but they were polite when we complained, and re-made the coffees after we finished our puddings. They didn't rush us at all, but were attentive rather than just ignoring us. If we looked like we might want something, for example another round of drinks, they made subtle checks and asked without interrupting us. We were in no rush to leave, and they let us sit and chat for a long while after finishing, before we motioned for the bill.

This has all changed, the couple now in charge are clearly experienced in catering, customer service, front of house and know how to run a very successful and enjoyable venue. The choice of starters was great and they were all delicious. We all had the flat iron steaks and they were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The wine list was good and the desert options were all extremely tempting - so we did - and they too were tasty and well constructed. I wasn't expecting much when I walked in, but I have to say, the welcome was wonderful. Grantchester is very lucky to have these two champions running one of the main dining establishments in the village, we'll be back for sure, it was a truly lovely experience.
