I've been here a few times for the odd family occasion, and have also stayed here as it's not far from my grandparents' home. The pub is a spacious bar/restaurant with rooms upstairs and a 'garden' with tables out the back.
It's well worth a visit for larger parties as they've always been able to put together tables for 10 or more guests, plus highchairs for little ones. They have a substantial menu, with generous portions. On our last visit, starters included red pepper soup, lamb koftas, prawn cocktail and baked camembert. The main menu includes steaks, burgers, salads (don't be deceived, these are large. My duck salad with mango was a 'small' one, but contained a huge amount of duck and crunchy veg) and the usual fish and chips, pies etc. Loads of puddings available too- waffles, crumbles, tarts and more.
On the whole we were all very pleased with our food, it looked and tasted pretty good except for the calves' liver which didn't look particularly appetising and was apparently a bit tasteless, which was a shame.
Food arrived quickly, service was helpful and the atmosphere was nice- music plays but at a level low enough for conversation.
I can't say much about the rooms, as I've not stayed in for about a year, but they were very clean and comfortable, and breakfast was very good. I'd happily stay here again. read more
