Stayed at this hotel as part of a tour and have mixed feelings. The 4 stars is too much and the 3 stars not enough. Somewhere in between is fair.
Started off well with the hotel staff delivering our luggage to our rooms but dipped slightly when shown the dining room where we were told that wherever we sat would be our table for the 5 days. Hmmm. Probably just me because I hate being told what to do when I am the customer.
Entertainment was old fashioned but fine. I think our group added the cabaret, up dancing and having fun.
Breakfast was good with lots of choices but I am not happy choosing my main dinner course at breakfast. The staff were very accommodating with the menu apart from that - giving me bacon and bread for a sanni or beans on toast and the eggs were the way I just love them, white cooked and yolk soft. I love dipping into a yolk. Yum yum. Friend did not like yolks so I was doubly happy. To be fair, the hotel was not full and I presume economy wise it is easier knowing what you need to source. Dinners were good with 4 choices of main and sweets and lots of potato and vegs.
One small "fly in the ointment". On the Tuesday when entertainment was not provided and it was raining fit to bust, the bar tender was asked if there was a radio or anything available and the answer - NO! Could and should have been nicer. I guess he failed the "customer relations" course.
No wifi which was a pain but pointed out the nearest coffee place which had it.
All in all a bit of a mix of up market boarding house and well run hotel. It is a family run hotel from gran and granddad (both younger than me), daughter, grandchildren, etc. and they are good with people and very helpful, finding out information, booking taxis, etc.
Good for the price and I would stay again despite the above comments. read more
