We chose to only pay once, then leave. 4) very rowdy guests in beer garden was annoying and nothing was done about it 5) had to carry our own drinks and cutlery to garden, really, need wait staff to do this 6) smoking in garden was annoying as we ate. So food was great, but service needs to be better.

ROOM: Great size, nice en suite, nicely furnished, clean bed linen, towels, etc. TV worked and there was a nice little refreshment tray with choice of coffee grounds for a 2-cup cafetiere, teabags, instant coffee and hot chocolate and nice biscuits. FOOD: The food was really good quality and there was a great range on offer on the menu (see my pics) for both breakfast choices and evening meals. The restaurant was in a separate adjacent room to the pub so it was less busy and more comfortable. For our evening meal, we ordered a Fishmonger's board to share (smoked trout, smoked salmon, peeled Atlantic prawns and beer-battered fish goujons) - it was delicious and there was enough for at least 3 people to share! For our mains, we ordered the 8oz sirloin steak and a mushroom open ravioli - both of which were well cooked and tasted great! BAR/PLACE: The bar was lively so beware if you're staying over the weekend and want early nights. When booking, I would suggest you ask for a room on the second floor. We were directly over the bar and the noise was gone by 1am and it wasn't so bad. There was also ample room to sit outside. There's a children's play area too. There's also a function room which has a mini dance floor - perfect for birthday parties.

I liked that the bathroom has a bathtub - was exactly what I felt like after a long day of travelling. The check in process is simple and the staff are lovely and polite. It is country house hotel located out in the country in central Anglesey and is as quiet and tranquil as you could want. When you walk up the sweeping stair case and take in the decor you realise that this is a high class establishment. The rooms include all the facilities you would expect with four poster beds available in some rooms. The hotel also offers a well appointed spa complete with pool, jacuzzi, sauna, gym etc which unfortunately we didn't have time to visit. We were offered the choice of either dinner in the dining room which requires formal evening wear or the more informal choice of the Cafe Wine bar. As I didn't have a tux with me (actually I don't have a tux full stop) we opted for the wine bar. This was located in what appeared to be an old stable and was very nicely renovated. It was surprisingly quiet (it's open to non-residents) but the food was fantastic and not too expensive. We both opted for an award winning kerala beef curry dish which is highly recommended if it's still on the menu. If you've got cash to spare or if you can find a special deal (which was what we did) this is a fantastic place to spend a weekend.

We were treated like royalty, reception booked us in for our evening meal at Castell Deudreath (the more modern hotel and restaurant in Portmeirion Village) and even booked the complimentary taxi service for us so we didn't have to walk up the hill. The meal was superb and the taxi brought us back to our hotel when we were finished. Our room was perhaps a little dated but charming all the same and very pretty and this was all forgotten the folowing morning when we woke up to breakfast in bed and the gorgeous view of the estuary as the sun slowly rose in the sky. I long to return to The Hotel Portmeirion again to fully explore the village and enjoy the tranquility and service we experienced there.
