The White County Courthouse has since been converted into the Historic White County Courthouse Museum and the courthouse functions moved elsewhere in Cleveland. I was here for the two historical markers outside but noticed the museum and I'm so glad that I did! Greeted warmly by a museum docent who took time out of her lunch to talk to me for a good while, pointing out the sites in the museum and providing history of the structure. Constructed between 1859 and 1860, it was surprisingly not destroyed during the Civil War. There is a collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the county that explains why it was like living in the Northeast Georgia mountains. They also have a record room for genealogy if you believe that you might have relations that lived here. Parking is nearby in one of the strip malls across the street.
