And the standard practice seems to be that getting on the list requires a deposit. So I checked out quite a few breeders within a couple hundred miles of Chicago, and concluded that The Paw Pad Doodles would meet our needs. They are clearly serious about their work. Their prices aren't the cheapest, but not the worst either, and, it takes a lot of labor, capital, and land to raise puppies. They seem organized and professional. When we made the deposit in February, they said we'd likely have a puppy by summer, or perhaps would have to wait until fall. When in April a litter became available for us, they sent pictures, videos, and some behavioral test results. A choosing visit was scheduled, at which point (due to our place on the waitlist) we had 3 pups to choose from. We got, I think, an honest assessment of each, and got to play for a while with each. Of course all puppies are cute, but it wasn't too difficult to decide on the one who was neither too shy nor too wild. Then, a couple weeks later we drove down again and picked her up. Of course with puppies part of the deal is that they will create some chaos and not behave as their people wish. And Deer Creek is, well, a long drive for a young puppy. But I thought The Paw Pad Doodles did a fine job for us.

We got our Cavapoo from Creekside puppies. The dogs can only be seen by appointment which I think…read moreis good for the safety of the people and the dogs. The puppies are clean and appear well cared for. We received a vet record which included her vaccination history and upcoming needs. They disclosed that her fontanelle had a small opening that had not fully fused during her development but was in great health. We chose to adopt her with this information. It was an almost microscopic opening and was not deemed a serious health risk. We took her to the vet ourselves after adoption for a full checkup. She received a clean bill of health. We had information on our puppy's parents but did not meet them. I do not believe they are on the same location. We have lived with our puppy for 3 years now and she is an absolute sweetheart and extremely healthy. She is timid around others due to her smaller size but never has had issues that appear abuse related like our other two dogs adopted from other locations not part of this breeder. I plan to adopt from here again if we are ever ready to care for additional dogs. I would recommend them.
