I usually love coming to the Growler and have had good experiences in the past. However, I went…read morethere after my graduation with my family and had such a horrible time. The bartender did not look at us once and when my brother asked if he had any recommendations or a favorite, he responded "no" without even looking up. When I asked for 2 drinks I was told they were out which was fine, but then I asked what they did have and was told, "look if it has a cap on it". The Growler was something my family was looking forward to since they were coming for the first time from Connecticut and had heard good things, but the bartender made it seem like we weren't wanted there. I did not end up getting a drink which was an unfortunate way to end my graduation night.

I've been to The Growler quite a few times and have always had a great experience. I decided to swing in this week while back in town and it really held up. The staff working the bar are consistently awesome - they're personable, quick, and extremely helpful. The beer is always well poured. Their food is always great for the atmosphere. Some places tend to get lazy when serving bar food, but that is not the case for The Growler. There is so much seating available if you are planning to hang out with friends, and they have a few tvs and games available for use. It is somehow also a great spot for working - I have typed many, many papers here and have somehow never been too distracted despite this place often being filled with groups of people.

We visited the Velvet Ditch a couple of weeks ago and meant to write a review then. Anyway, we were…read morereally surprised how really super nice the staff and how knowledgable they were about the menu. We ate outside and noticed how private it felt even though we were outside. Nice and easy going, we didn't feel rushed, our food came out in a timely manner and it came out hot. I had the Chicken Alfredo, my husband had Cheeseburger and Fries (MR), and my friend had Boneless Wings/fries. My husband's Cheeseburger was cooked perfectly. My Chicken Alfredo was not dry and neither was the chicken, and my friends Boneless Wings looked juicy as well. We also had apps! Our frozen adult drinks were on point. What I liked the most was that we were not rushed, instead we felt like we were in our backyard relaxed enjoying our food, drinks, and each other's company. Thank you Velvet Ditch we will be back...My husband is dying to try the Oysters!

The Velvet Ditch located in downtown Oxford, The Square…read more This is a typical college bar type restaurant with outdoor beer garden and seating with televisions and a raucous crowd. We came in to taste the local flair while on an Ole Miss college tour. The wait was lengthy however you could still stand at the bar and have a drink while you waited. We ordered a round of beers and checked out the place and the people. The bartenders were very nice, a lot of southern hospitality in this town. We were finally seated and ordered a seafood platter and a few orders of seafood gumbo. The gumbo was absolutely delicious. Shrimp that tasted amazing and sausage with great flavor. Rice cooked perfectly and overall a great dish. The seafood platter in my opinion, not worth the money. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. Coming from vegas the bar is set high on dining out as we have the best of the best in our city when it comes to places to eat. While this was a fun place to hang, it's expensive for a college town. The ahi tuna nachos at this place are absolutely amazing and a must try. Best thing I ate there. A ton of Ahi and a huge portion. There was more ahi than chips. Clean place, fair service at the tables, waitress delivered 4 entrees and saint bring the 11 year olds dinner. He sat for 15 minutes and I had to hunt her down to ask where the kids food was. Serve everyone at the same time, it's rude not to. This was a big annoyance for me as the child sits with no food while everyone else is eating for 15-20 minutes.

The patio overlooking the Square has unbeatable views and scenery. Awesome place for an afternoon cocktail. Negatives - they were out of 3 draft beers. I tried to order the pulled pork sandwich and I was informed they don't make it any more and they were in the process of taking it off the menu. The smash burger I got was a joke (see my pictures). My waitress was nice just not very fast. If you are looking for a cool spot for a drink, this works. If you are looking for more of a culinary experience, go some place on the Square.

There were only four people in the entire place and the service was horrible. Very confrontational, pushback bar "maid" (and she was a dude). Happy hour food absolutely sucked. Not trying to be overly critical. I am also a Hilton Diamond Reserve member and this is why I stayed here. I might as well have said I was a Mormon selling Old Testament Bibles. This is a dial it in at BEST staff from the front door to the rooftop bar. Save a whole bunch of money and go stay down the street.
