We arrived on time for our appt with Ms. Meri and waited 25 minutes for our cut-- which is a really long time for a toddler. She was very nice but clearly had no idea how to cut curly hair. My son has these beautiful, tight golden curls and she began by spraying them down with water. I was immediately skeptical and expressed concern that they would now be too short but she assured me everything was fine. Proceeded to take the same length off the top as well as the sides and the back. His hair wasn't even dry by the end of the blow dry and was so short on the sides and back that I could see his scalp. The whole cut didn't even take more than 5 minutes. I was close to crying. We were so looking forward to his first haircut being a fun experience but instead it was stressful and my kid left with a bad haircut for the summer. EDIT: The owner wasn't there so he has no idea what happened. We were not offered another look from a different stylist as the owner stated in his reply. And even if we were-- what could another stylist do? The hair was already gone. I expressed many times during the cut that spraying down his curls may make the cut too short and was assured many times it wouldn't be a problem once it dried. It was definitely not a trim as requested. It was a SHORT cut.

After scheduling knotless braid removal for my daughter,…read moreI called the salon to inquire about adding on services as it is not made clear on the website if detangling and shampoo is included in the take-down (it isn't). I also left a note when I scheduled and reiterated when I called that my daughter has long, thick hair, which might require more time than usual. Andria, who answered the phone without an ounce of customer service, switched my appointment to a different stylist who reached out the night before the appointment to go over my request. She encouraged me to come early so she could get started early. My appointment was at 10:00. I arrived at 9:30, as instructed. When I arrived, Andria and the younger stylist who I'd spoken with the night before barely said hello, before Andria told me, "Mom, you can go get breakfast and come back in a little bit," which was confusing. I came early to get my daughter's hair started early (as instructed by the younger stylist) and said as much, to which Andria snidely replied under her breath/to the client in her chair, "Well I guess I should just stop talking then!" It quickly became clear that they had double booked me and a younger Hispanic woman, who was there with her small daughter to be serviced at 9:30. Still feeling optimistic despire this unprofessionalism, I say ok and decided to run a quick errand and return for my original appointment time (10:00). When I came back, the younger stylist was washing the little Hispanic girl's hair, and her mother was nowhere to be seen. The little girl was crying inconsolably and neither Andria or the younger stylist were saying anything to comfort her. Andria invited my daughter and I in to have a seat, and then, again, in her strange, indirect, possibly passive aggressive, uncommunicative/broken communication style, suggested that I leave by saying, "We will call you when she is 10-15 minutes ready to go." (???) I didn't know what she was talking about but it quickly became clear that she wanted me to leave the salon, even though she seemed to have just invited me and my daughter to have a seat. The poor little girl continued to cry for her mother while she got her hair washed. To that Hispanic mom, if you ever read this, and to all other parents: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN UNATTENDED AT THIS SALON. STAFF IS NOT FRIENDLY OR KIND. THEY HAVE NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS AND CLEARLY DO NOT CARE FOR YOUR PATRONAGE MUCH LESS FOR THE CARE OF CHILDREN. After a long while, they finally said a few words to the little girl and when she would not stop crying, Andria handed her a handful of candy and told her she had to be quiet to have it. They clearly had no intention of starting my daughter's hair on time, never even bothered to greet me properly or apologize for their lateness or the confusion they caused by double-booking me, despite having had two phone calls prior to the appointment and double- and triple-checking the appointment time (which they changed numerous times via text without cause). Taneja did a really great job braiding my daughter's hair 2 months prior to today's failed braid removal appointment. However, like the other reviewer below mentions, there was a lot of thick, pasty white build-up from the product that appeared a couple days after the braids were installed. Thankfully, it cleared up in a few days, and I am glad to say that, after spending the last 7 hours taking my own damn daughter's hair down, the build-up removal process was not too bad. I would recommend Taneja as a skilled braider. However, for such a cool concept and such a great opportunity to service Chicago kids, the customer service at this salon is absolute trash. Basic niceties would be enough but they can't even get greetings right, much less scheduling. Not worth your time if you actually value your time. And certainly not people I would leave my child with. Don't worry, they put exactly one chair outside their studio door. I strongly advise you to sit right there and keep it warm if your child is inside. Oh, and when I came in and collected my daughter, explaining that I no longer wanted the appointment after losing an hour waiting for them, the younger stylist actually asked me, "Do you have somewhere else you need to be today?" Girl, WHAT.
