I try my best to support Portage businesses. However, I have tried this salon 3 times now, and sadly it leaves much to be desired. The staff seem unhappy and unmotivated. The service quality is subpar. I'm used to my hairstylist working efficiently and with care, and at my former place, always walked out feeling great and ready to hit the town. Not this place. They will literally let you walk out with wet hair after a color treatment. And if you ask them to dry it, it's a basic blow dry, no product, no style unless you pay extra. The dry is standard at any salon you go to, as that's how stylists typically check to make sure you're happy with the color. Sad to say, I will make the drive to Valpo or the city from Now on. The extra expense is sadly worth it. Just another sign that Portage is not up to par. Sorry ladies and gents, do better. Take some pride in your work! read more

Don't respond to the messages from "Lilly" to schedule your appointments. They scheduled me for one day and then I got a message from HC that I missed my appointment because it was scheduled for a different day. When I called the location about it, they confirmed that I was not scheduled for either day. read more

Sarah was fantastic! My 4 year old son has very straight thick hair with a deep widow's peak that shows every snip. Plus he hates hair cuts. Sarah was was sooooo good with him! Every time he fussed about hair, she wiped it off quick and constantly was checking in with him. She also really listened to what I wanted and my input as she was cutting. I try not to be that extra mom, but I'm very particular with his hair because he's had so many bad haircuts. Sarah gave him the best hair cut he's ever had! I will definitely be back and scheduling to get her again. read more

I've been taking my kids to this location for many years. I decided to have a simple root touch up and a trim here since my normal salon was not available. The staff here has always been friendly and courteous, and the salon is clean and orderly. I have never had a worse root touch up in my life. When I got to the car, I noticed that my roots did not match my hair and looked awful. I put my hand in my hair and felt the dried, sticky powder bleach dried in the lower part of my hair, and all over the base of my neck. The dried powder was on my coat and and clothes also. When I went immediately back in, I had to wait and she only washed the base of my neck and proceeded to drench my shirt. I had spent over THREE hours there because she had to start and stop at least 15 times because she had to answer the phone and check clients in. I checked in at 9 a.m. and did not leave until 12:10. I lost count in the first hour how many times she had to leave the chair. I have no idea how the stylist could not see or feel the bleach in my hair. She must have ignored it because I had been there way to long. If you are looking for a quick chop for your kids, okay place to go. If you're looking for a professional service, don't even think about coming here. I am very sorry I did. read more

Not my first time here, but it will be my last as they do not honor appointment times. I made an appointment 3 days in advance to avoid waiting during this busy holiday season. The posted wait for walk-ins was 25 minutes. I was 5 minutes early and I expected to wait 5-10 minutes. Well, I cancelled and left after waiting 30 minutes for a documented appointment and no one ever spoke to me at all after I checked in to say there was going to be any wait. The stylist Heather was told as soon as I walked in that I was there. She should know how to manage her appointment times better as she is not new. read more

I had 5 inches cut off of my hair. I was terrified because I'd spent so long growing it out for over a year. But Sandra took amazing care of me. She made sure she knew EXACTLY what I wanted. I ended up with amazing layers and thick bangs. I'm in love. Thanks again, Sandra! read more

Pleasantly surprised! Staff was super nice and i didn't even have to wait long at all for a busy Saturday. Got the haircut I wanted and it wasn't even expensive read more

This evening we stopped in for some much needed and very last minute hair cuts. I had the absolute pleasure of having Sharon Jasinski as my stylist. It's very hard to trust someone from some of these walk in places. From the moment she greeted me I knew it would be a pleasant experience. We talked about products and how some of the stuff I was using was actually damaging my hair. My cut was fantastic and she didn't cut off more than she said she would. Sometimes stylist get scissor happy. She was sweet funny and relatable everything you look for in a stylist. She also introduced me to some new products that I'm excited about using. Thank you Sharon for a fantastic experience. I will be back! This was a very unexpected visit to Hair Cuttery but I'm so happy we stopped in!! read more

I usually go to the higher end salons but thought I'd give it a try. Best haircut I've had in over a decade! Ashley was amazing and cut my hair to perfection. Shampoo, cut and blow-dry for only $25. Ashley has a great personality and I will definitely be going back! read more

Went to the Hair Cuttery to have Shades EQ semi- permanent dye applied to my hair. This was applied by the assistant manager, so I thought it would be a positive experience. The color was pretty, but she got the dye all over my face and could not remove it all. She told me to use dish soap at home. It wouldn't be a big deal if she wouldn't have charged me $75 dollars for that and to angle the hair around my face. My hair was cut incorrectly and looks choppy and I left the location with dye on my face. Not worth $75 dollars and I will never go back. read more

I won't be going back here again. The people were friendly, I'll admit. I went in to get a haircut for my wife and I, but they don't do men's cuts even decently and they definitely didn't listen to what my wife wanted. She wasn't happy and I'm not happy. The price was a lot higher than the value. read more

True, they kinda do what they want but when you get the right stylist who does what you tell them to, get their card and stick with them. They do a great job overall, but many times I have been in there and told them what I wanted and they talked me out of it, or made other changes I didn't suggest saying it would look better on me than what I suggested. I must admit they are usually right and I end up happy with the cut but there were a few times I wanted it shorter for a change and they talked me out of it because they liked it long. I was like, it's MY hair but ok? I took it as a complement that they thought it looked so pretty long they wouldn't want to change it. I have never had a bad cut from them so I trust their opinion. And really? The price, is one thing I most certainly would not complain about even if you don't like the cut. There are more stylists than one that work there you know. I'd give them another chance if I were you. Speak for yourself, I know many men that get their hair cut there including my husband and they do a great job. read more

I went in on 11/11 to get highlights and to get my bangs cut into the "side swept" style and she made them a blunt line and the pieces framing my face are uneven. She was also very rough. The water was to hot, she pulled my hair hard everytime. And she didnt make any atempt at a conversation with me. read more
