Still the pub is a perfect place on a sunny day. Outside picnic tables to sit on, with a magnificent view of the coast and good array of beers, ciders and ales on tap. The pub itself is small and cosy and almost feels like you have stepped back in time to a proper smugglers pub. For the literary types amongst you, this little islands claim to fame is that it has a hotel that agatha christie used to frequent and based one of her books on.

Inside it is a perfect blend of the traditional and the modern and is worth seeking out. Was serving 3 St Austell Beers and a guest called Dartmoor Bitter. Just follow the signs past the Mayflower Steps and walk up the hill -- you'll find it! The fish and chips platter is massive. I'm not entirely sure how big a cod is but I think I had most of it on my plate. The chips were very good, as were the mushy peas, but there was just no hope of finishing it. I've had the Sunday roast beef as well, with all the usual accompaniments including Yorkshire Pudding. While it's not the best I've had thus far in my time in the UK (that honor belongs to The Cherub in Dartmouth) it was probably #2 on the list. Much like the fish and chips, it was more food than I could come close to eating in one sitting, but really excellent quality. The gravy was very flavorful and worked well with all the veggies on the plate. It's surprising but nice to have table service in an old pub like the Fisherman's Arms and the place has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I think this is a little more expensive than your average Sunday pub roast, but with the service I think it was worth it.

I was soon disabused of this notion by the friendly people working here. This is a very charming, cosy and warm pub to visit. 4 real ales, but a lineup that is not uncommon in a London pub. Still my pints were good. I wavered between 3 and 4 stars but as this was probably my favourite of the pubs in Saltash (and it is a great place to wait for the train/rest after walking up the very steep hill) I decided to go for 4. Apparently there is a terrace with a view out back? Gutted to have missed that! Some of the scenery around here is awe inspiring.
