It was a lucky dip that ended in a wonderful meal and a very nice experience thanks to the pub owners. We rocked up around 4pm and were told by a staff member in the parking lot, who kindly offered to take our photo, that they were probably out of roast being it was so late in the day but he would speak to the chef. 20 mins later we had a couple of beverages at a nice table in the lounge overlooking the water and a delicious beef roast dinner with root vegetables, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. We cleaned our plates and followed lunch up with a sweet and tasty slice of homemade carrot cake. It was absolutely fantastic. The staff were ever so friendly and really looked after us. What a great little find and we are so pleased to have stumbled upon it! Now, hours and a couple sofa snoozes later, we are still stuffed!

Cost just under £30 a head with drinks not at all bad considering the quality of the food on offer. My only quibble would be that having to look at the blackboard for the specials of the day, we had to stand next to (and look over) people eating their dinner more uncomfortable for them than us, I would imagine. Although the bar is tiny - it always looks immaculate. It's a big old pub with lots of small seating area and a decent menu. The current owners are pretty new but there are lots of nice touches like candles in the windows and comfy armchairs that make this a good stop. We had a couple of the local draft beers and sat near the fire watching the snow come down. We've earmarked the Air Balloon for a meal next time we're passing through.

They have sky tv too, and so the bar area attracts sports fans to watch the game - worth bearing in mind if you're going for a quiet dinner! If you have children, you might want to try and find your way into one of their booths - and then you have your own TV to keep them amused!! They do insist on using brioche buns (uhk), but they burgers are juicy and meaty and being sat watching the river gently push past makes up for this one annoyance. We did order a cheese board, but can only presume that they made a mistake because we were brought about three times the usual amount. the friendly staff were happy to bring us a massive box of crackers so we did what was needed and ate the lot. Parking can be tricky, and it's quite a popular spot in the summer. They have some toys out for kids, but there are probably more family friendly spots.
