So disappointing to have to update my review and drop a few stars. The service is still first class and the pub is still a beautiful example of a traditional English pub, but its all about the food.
The good, the French onion soup was one of the best i've ever had, deliciously sweet and salty with crisp cheese bread on the side.
I got the fish and chips, and although the portion was large, bigger was certainly not better.
The fish had a "fishy" smell and taste, an indication that it may be past its prime, and i also got the tail end of the fish where there was more batter than fish. They've also changed the chips to some pale imitation of the fantastic thick cut ones they used to do. If its not broken don't fix it, i'll never understand why places mess with success, i'm guessing money, but you'll end up losing more customers by dropping the things that made you famous.
Other party members complained of bland vegetables and deep fried "roast" potato's.
Such a shame, i so used to love this place. read more
