The food was brilliant. We had a starter and a main dish each and we couldn't finish it all, the portions were so generous. Couple this with the opportunity to drink the Bull's Head's choice of real ales as well as more conventional wines and lagers and you have a winning combination. I can't recommend it too highly!

Various family and friends have bragged to each other about this place only to find it is not such a secret with locals. This is the kind of place you will take someone to try. They must see it. They shouldn't have to miss out. Bearing all this in mind, it is not perfect. The layout is a little annoying for large parties- no tables will accommodate more than six or seven easily and there simply isn't enough space to be pushing and joining etc. Also, you run the risk on a Sunday of running out of certain meats so either there will be a hefty wait, as on my sister's most recent birthday here, or various diners will eat at different times depending on which meat they want with their Sunday roast. The carvery is good though. An ok amount of choice, but enough to satisfy most eager customers. The air is lively and chatty whilst being relaxed. If it weren't for the points above I'd have given it a 5.

The Gun has recently come under new management, with the aim of turning the place back into what is once was. Which was a fine pub where you could have a nice drink, in comfortable surroundings, without football or music on the TV. The Gun also had a reputation for good food, either in the bar or upstairs in the restaurant. Well the good news is that Stuart and Emma have got the place just how it used to be. Good beers at reasonable prices, with casks ales available too. The food in the bar is very good, but upstairs in the restaurant you will be spoiled be a fabulous menu, cooked to your taste, presented very well and served by Emma or her staff, with a smile. Themed food evenings, such as tapas nights are very popular too. If a nice malt whiskey is your thing, then Stuart is building a good collection and will make you welcome with a friendly chat. In the past, people have tried to build up custom here with football on the TV, cheap beers, karaoke or live music, but Stuart and Emma are succeeding with The Gun Inn as it used to be.

My boyfriend enjoyed a Timothy Taylor's while I had tomato juice into which I was allowed to dunk the Lea & Perrins myself - score! We both opted for the combo roast lunch which doesn't cheat you at £10.95 as it is a huge amount of food: ham, lamb, beef, roast potatoes, a variation on dauphinnoise potatoes, carrots and broccoli plus a giant Yorkshire pudding. They also brought extra gravy. Although I don't think I'll ever find a roast I enjoy as much as my family's, I really enjoyed this and thought it was great quality for a pub Sunday lunch. They had some nice (quiet!) background music playing and then switched to the Six Nations so are clearly making all the right choices! The view of the hill outside the back of the pub is beautiful and it's an easy drive from Stockport so I will definitely be coming back here. I see from the other pub reviews it has a beer garden which is awesome because Manchester has a total lack of those. Hooray for Hayfield!

Whether it's a great place to meet that special someone's parents, a warm place to rest your muddied boots after a long walk, somewhere to lounge in the sunshine whilst sipping a pint of Timothy Taylor's, or just a place to enjoy great British food; you MUST go here. You think to yourself this MUST be where all the action goes on, the Norfolk Arms. It has been refurbished and whilst this gives it a cleaner, lighter more modern feel you do get the feeling that perhaps it would have more character, more atmosphere if they had simply restored the original layour and interior. Some regulars are reported to have not been too keen on the change and fair enough, people groan about any kind of change, but they may have been right. The prices are cheap, though, at this Holt's pub which does attract some young uns although not as many as you might expect. It is not exactly noisy teen central in here. During the day it is fairly peaceful, serving food and it even has wi-fi. How thoroughly modern. But I really can't see myself choosing this pub over others.

Finally found a reason to return to Glossop after about a decade hiatus (taking the Lass to meet…read morethe Aged Parents for the first time). At the Guv'nor's suggestion, we chose the Norfolk for lunch. Last time I set foot in this building was a good twenty years ago, still in elasticated jeans, and the place was filled with smoke and pensioner/dole bar flies. The place has changed hands several times since, undergone some serious renovation work (just like Glossop as it happens), and - wow, what a difference. The place feels like it could be one of the upmarket pubs in the trendy areas of Manchester. No comments on the bar itself as we stayed in the restaurant, which is frankly a lovely spacious room - I lack the energy to do it justice in this missive - but the staff were very attentive and personable. The Aged Ps are regulars and it was clear from the waitress's interactions with them that a rapport had been built. You can go to some places and be served by the same person over and over again and they'll still treat you like a stranger. I got the feeling that you can go to the Norfolk just once and they'll still remember you six or seven months down the line (I will test this theory at some point!). Food was fantastic, we all ordered fish dishes, and this is the first place in a long time where I've ordered whole tail scampi and got exactly that, rather than frozen combobulated mush in batter. The batter incidentally was crisp and just so, the chips were as you'd expect, proper fat home made things. Very satisfying and piping hot, though sadly not as crisp as I'd have liked. Everything was presented perfectly with attention to detail (such as the scampi being served up in a little fry basket) rather than just slapped on the plate in the order it came off the stove like Sunday dinners growing up. Highly recommend the spicy salmon (the Lass's order, which self took liberties with), not the best salmon in the world, but Seattle spoiled me in that department, and I've had far, far worse over the years, definitely better than what you'd get out of the supermarket. The only downside to the afternoon was the mishap with the fire alarm, which chose to malfunction just as our order arrived and continued for a good five minutes or so. The staff were really good about it apologising immediately and reassuring there wasn't a conflagration in the offing (to which the Lass stated flatly that she was taking her plate with her if we did end up going outside). Can't really fault the establishment for the alarm, at least the bloody works, and feel somewhat sorry for them that an elderly couple out with their grandson the next table over had the immortal rind to take advantage of the minor chaos caused and abandon ship without paying. At any rate that was a minor thing and I had a headache before I crossed the threshold so no real tragedy, the place is definitely worth a look in if you happen to be kicking around Glossop or the surround. Pico Lounge is a part of The Loungers chain, this is one of the largest Lounges I've visited…read morelocated at the Howard Town Shopping Park in Glossop, it's located in a small retail park within the town, with a large parking lot which appears to be free to use. The interior and set-up is pretty much the same as every other restaurant within the chain, albeit a little larger, the decor and style with the mismatched furniture and wall art appear to be the same, but the vibes are pretty cool. The staff seemed friendly, although they could have done with more people working the bar to take orders quicker, but I did visit on a busy Saturday and they were trying their best so can't hold this against them too much. There is always the option to order the food at your table using a QR code, but I was unable to do this as I have an allergy and must order at the counter with a manager. The manager who took my order was friendly and was happy to make the changes I wanted to my dish without any trouble. The other members of my party ordered a dessert, and they were charged for a more expensive one than the one they wanted, this was their error however due to having two similar dishes on the menu. They did get the more expensive dessert and enjoyed it. I ordered the GF Lounge Breakfast with the following changes: - Poached Eggs instead of fried - An extra egg in place of the GF roll (I hate seeded bread!) - An extra sausage instead of the bacon My breakfast arrived in good time, again considering I visited outside of the usual breakfast window and how busy they were, was a good factor. My breakfast was hot, including the beans, which I appreciate is difficult when making so many individual items. One of the eggs was a little too firm for me, and the tomato was a little hard, but all in all, I enjoyed my meal. The sausages were good quality, and the hash browns were crispy and it was well-seasoned. It's a good Lounge overall and I would certainly return the next time I'm in Glossop with many good things to write about for sure. 4*

Perhaps avoid if you don't like eating around children! I've been a few times and service can be a bit chaotic, I think they tend to be understaffed, but recently this has improved. I really love the miami brunch, avocado and sweetcorn make it feel more fresh and healthy then the standard greasy breakfast.
